We looked up Sophisticakes by Mary after a recommendation from the hotel we had booked for our…read morewedding reception, and we're delighted we did! Mary was very responsive on email and worked with our complicated travel schedules to arrange a "take home" tasting so we could select our cake flavors and frosting. While we didn't stretch her much as an artist (her gallery proves that she's as much a sculptor as a baker), she was very attentive to our simpler aesthetic and produced exactly the grand, elegant wedding cake we had hoped for. Our guests are still talking about how delicious it was! We had a great experience working with Mary and couldn't have asked for anything better.

only giving one star, since there's no option for zero stars…read more let me tell you about "sugar a la mode" it's name states 'sugar' yet they don't have ANY sugar at all. don't understand this when they're supposed to be a bakery and dessert place. First of all, we had to wait a while to even be greeted by anyone, second, my GF Apple nacho dessert was just a poorly cut apple with part of the stems in it, no one explained to me that I was able to put the toppings on myself, I had to deduce it myself and ask, my dad's coffee tasted like bathroom water, they didn't even have sugar available for the disgusting coffee, which by they way got both my husband and my father sick, the cake was very dry, and the cheesecake was okay. The customer service is just mediocre, and the worst part is the price. I feel like we just had been robed. $33 for 3 desserts is absurd, and the cherry on top is that you don't know how much they'll charge you until the end, and on top of that, they even expect a tip! Which we have not to be rude, but we will never again spend our money on this place. Don't waste your money!

Can't believe I'm the first to review this no frills cupcake/muffin shop!…read more When I travel for work, I always search for cupcakeries, and this seemed to be the only cupcake shop within walking distance of my hotel in Davenport. (and it was well within walking distance - glad I don't live near a place like this - I'd weigh a million pounds) The inside of the shop is nothing to speak of. There were a couple people hanging out reading the paper and drinking coffee, but there was a good selection of cupcakes and muffins. I bought a couple things to eat over the course of my trip - a pumpkin muffin, a cappuccino chocolate chunk muffin, and a chocolate cupcake stuffed with chocolate filling. The cupcake was good...but, wow! Those muffins! I love cappuccino muffins and the one I had was absolutely amazing. Although it was hot as hades outside, I enjoyed the fall inspired pumpkin muffin. They were really very good - dense but not to heavy. Soft but not crumbly. THIS is how muffins should be made. This is a definitely a little hidden gem worth checking out if you're in the quad cities!

I recently swung by your cookie place and just wanted to share a few thoughts. First off, wow…read moreyou've got an amazing selection of cookies. Seriously, so many tempting choices it's hard to pick just one and what a brilliant location it's absolutely perfect for anyone looking to grab a sweet treat before or after catching a baseball game. It really makes for a great dessert stop or a quick munch. However I did notice one thing that unfortunately kept me from making a purchase. I saw that some of the delicious looking cookies in the display weren't covered and there were a few little visitors like flies and other small bugs buzzing around them. It was a bit of a turn off for me and I ended up deciding not to buy anything because of it. I want to be super clear my feedback isn't about the actual cookies, which I'm sure are absolutely scrumptious. It's purely about the presentation and protection of them. If the cookies were covered up, it would really put customers at ease and make sure those pesky bugs can't get to them. I think with just that small adjustment, your place could be an absolute home run for everyone.

The truffles are very mild, too much so for me, though if you're a milk chocolate fan you might love them. I found the little turtle-like caramel pecan patties too salty for my taste.
