I only had a few minutes, but I stopped to look anyway. What a delight, they had so many cool antiques. The things that interested me, may not be the same as someone else but they had a huge variety. I personally like the beveled glass windows and doors. I am a huge Frank Loyd Wright fan, they had this beautiful pair of 8 foot doors I was drooling over. They had collectible Steiff animals, not just bears. Also, they had a ton of stuff under old lumber yard bins outside where they housed some of the less expensive things. If you want pristine condition antiques, shop inside...if you want fixer up-ers, shop outside. They had something for every budget and the woman was extremely knowledgeable. I will go back and really explore the whole place this weekend, maybe I'll update this post if I am able to negotiate on a beveled window I have my eye on. I understand it's Peach Fest and they were busy, but 3 out of our 4 ice cream orders were made incorrectly. On top of that, our bill was around $31, and we were told there was a 4% credit card service fee, yet somehow the total ended up around $38. A 4% fee obviously doesn't explain a $7 increase. The last time we were here, my banana split was made incorrectly. They remade it for me, which I appreciated, but then charged me for BOTH banana splits even though the second one was only made because the first one was wrong. Mistakes happen, especially when a place is busy. But when the orders are repeatedly wrong, the billing doesn't add up, and the customer service isn't there to make it right, it becomes hard to keep coming back. We've always preferred supporting local businesses, but unfortunately after our last two experiences, we'll probably be going to Dairy Queen or Trailside instead.

Yesterday, I anxiously returned to Metamora with two of my friends for lunch and shopping. To say it was disappointing was an understatement. It has become a junk store. While I understand some things cannot stay the same, the new owners need to talk with Mrs. Griswold as to how to display and bring in items that made it so unique and interesting. With the General Store across the street, (which is outstanding), The Salt Box will not survive at this rate, which is sad. Metamora is a destination... it's on the map now. Make it worth the visit. Sitting on a pillow in my recliner from the very 1st. day it was delivered. I did get them to come back once. Pushed some material under the recliner but didn't do anything for the FRAME I FEEL WHEN I SIT ON THE CUSHION. DUH!! NO ONE IN THE STORE IS HONESTLY ON IT. THAT WAS MY EXPERIENCE. EVEN THIS STORE DIDN'T REALLY CARE! Sad, what the stores get away with.
