The secret to quality cooking is the proper mixing of hot, sweet, and sour flavors, and this eatery nails it. Their dishes have a home-cooked touch: try their beef jerky appetizer, spicy sour soup, and sticky rice. Like spicy? Just ask, and you'll be sweating bullets by the end of the meal.

The place was packed at dinnertime (8:20) and 2 of us awkwardly waited in the small front area with other diners until we were seated at 9pm. There are maybe only 2-3 pho dishes here but a lot of salads, rice and meat/shrimp dishes, and vermicelli/noodle dishes. I got the nouilles sautées aux légumes et crevettes (mi xao tom, see photo). It wasn't made with the usual noodle that I've known to be used for this dish (the thin, yellow egg noodle). I guess for that matter, it didn't taste like mi xao tom either. There was a lot of this brown sauce. It was good at first but soon I felt there needed to be some kind of balance to it. In the end it just was too salty and felt unhealthy. My bf had a beef vermicelli dish, which was also drenched in their sauce, and he found it to have too much of a vinegar taste. Drink prices aren't bad, for Paris. We skipped dessert; nothing stood out (no chè here!). I'm Viet but I'm not familiar with North Vietnamese cuisine at all, so I don't know if this was this particular restaurant's take on things or whether this is how it is. Our experience was lackluster, so I'm going to continue my search for my go-to restaurant when I miss my family's cooking! And on an extra note: credit cards are not accepted.

The shrimp and spring roll appetizer were tasty yummy. The pork, well a little lack luster but I think it was the rice that killed the taste of the meal. The rice tasted old. Up side, the steamed vegetables were delicious. Maybe try the soup as alot of people had it and the chocolate fondant.

The secobd time, I had to wait about 10minutes. The wait is well worth it though! I recommend ordering the"menu" that they have. I ordered the 3rd/4th? Menu option (it was the last option). It started with a spicy fish soup, fried shrimps then the main of green curry with beef, fried rice with pork and some chicken. The menu is more than enough to share with 2 people. The fish soup - it was a type of subtle hot where you only notice how spicy it is after half way when your nose is runny. The veggies and fish were delicious. A few sprinkles of coriander Fried shrimp - I do enjoy fried shrimps but this was an excellent fried shrimp. The outside was super crispy with bread crumbs and there was a light soft dough around the shrimp. Mmmm the experience of chewing that... Green curry with beef - It was good green curry but nothing to write home about Chicken - I am not sure what the sauce was. I assume sweet and sour. I was distracted by the other dishes to notice much about this. It was good but not good enough to stand out Fried rice with pork - There were pieces of pork in the fried rice. It had a slight hint of sweet flavor (honey glazed?) But those pieces were mainly salty which made a great balance to the fried rice. I didn't think I would ever rave about fried rice but this place changed my mind To end my lunch meal, I had ordered this "flan" made out of coconut milk with green tea. If you love coconut, I definitely recommend this! It came warmed up. It was soft and coconut-goodness. Heads up, the service isn't great. But you shouldn't be going here for the service but the food. I am happy as long as they don't throw my food

(Hilariously so, since she had a whole lecture about portion control just right before that). Food came out really quick and really seemed like it kept coming out and wasn't going to stop. I love love love this restaurant, so much we returned more than five times during our trip. This is an enchanting family-owned spot with a cute patio and two separate dining areas. Everyone is so genuine and sweet. Service is fantastic and fast when you are hangry. My mum loved to sit and chat with the chef. And we were able to request some items off menu and they were kind to oblige. Such a selection of food choices and the food is incredibly authentic. Prices are so reasonably and for those unfamiliar with Laotian or Thai dishes, they have pictures so you can just point to what you want. Highly recommend the nem nuong (pork sausages), som mou (fermented pork sausage), riz gulant (sticky rice), tam som pou (papaya salad), and the boeuf seche a la citronnelle (beef jerky). The flavors are magical with lemongrass and sweet savory perfect with the pepper jelly sauce. I could rattle off more but just order anything on the menu and your belly was thank you. The dessert menu was the spotlight for my happy joy joy dance. Oooeeemmmgggeee, I found all my favorite desserts that I craved. Th.e haricot rouge glace has the purple beans and so refreshing and yummy. Also fan of the tarot au lait de coco; name says it all. The khao niao ma muang (mango sticky rice) is not too sweet and just perfectly ripe mangos. The lemon sorbet ice cream is the sweetest presentation served in a lemon shell that my nieces refuse to share. Be around people you feed your soul, not deplete it. Lao Viet is a love letter to my inner child. Feed with immense love. Your body will love you back eating here.
