This place is great. There are four rooms within a very old building close to the heart of Beaune and the building has been fixed up wonderfully while retaining its old charm. Rooms are incredibly spacious for Europe and set up with luxury amenities which will spoil you slightly compared to most hotels in France (other comments I heard in Beaune were that the lobby was great, but the hotel room was just fine). Breakfasts are amazing, with way too much food including amazing pastries and of course the traditional options of yogurt, cheese, ham, etc. but even here there are about 3-5 options of amazing cheeses and various local delicacies. If there is anything you want, you'll likely find that it shows up the next day due to your diligent and gracious hostess who is delightful and aims to please.
I would unquestionably stay here again, though it helps a lot that my wife understands quite a bit of French and speaks a bit - I would have personally felt a bit awkward staying here myself given that I really don't speak any French (typically understand a few words and try to piece it together).
For the slightly adventurous traveler, who ideally speaks a bit of French, Chez les Fatien may be the best lodging in Beaune as far as I can tell. Bravo! read more
