I'm sorry I don't get the other reviews. Only thing I can think is the chef changed. Positives: great location by the castle and semi attentive staff. Portions are big/fair. Based on prior reviews we had high hopes. There were 4 of us so we each tried something different. The 2 steaks/duck were super tough ( cooked med rare). We said something to the waiter and we asked if we wanted it to be cooked some more. No thx - additional cooking would make it even more leathery. Fries looked like they were cut in half, then in half, then again. Really why serve a bunch of broken potato pieces. The waiter praised the house wine, and pushed it hard but honestly it was not very good. Maybe "buvable'. A bit sour, no complexity. But heck it pairs with the steak. The food was very good! We had the duck, the pork shoulder, salmon, and beef. The asparagus soup was delicious as well as the pomme daulphine, creme brûlée, and the profiterole- which was amazing- definitely order this!! Highly recommend making a reservation a day before if possible as all restaurants seem to be full in the summer. read more

We stopped by on our first night in Amboise and were lucky enough to get a table for 2 in the back room. I do not remember our servers name but he was wonderful!! The whole experience was magical. From the food- goat cheese salad and escargot appetizers to the delicious crème brûlée dessert- we loved every bite. June Thursday 2023 This review is for our American friends who go to Ambroise. Most of the "higher end" restaurant here require a reservation. The locals take their reservations seriously and reservations fill up quickly. In the sense that if you call hours before opening, they will probably be booked. However- if you show up right when they open, nine times our of ten they will have seats open for walk ins. This isn't advertised, but just know that it's something you can do/try if you don't have a reservation. The only caveat is that if you show up 30 minutes after opening, they will probably already be packed. As to the food: Delicious! Really well made beautiful dishes and really great wine! This was the first place my wife and I both tried escargot for the first time and I'm glad we tried it here. The snails were cooked and garnished so well that it basically tasted like a yummy garlic coated mushroom! (But I still think I've had my fill of snails for a lifetime). Fun fact: the owners of this restaurant also have a winery nearby. (Château Montedomaine) You should totally book a tasting at the winery then head over to the restaurant. They serve the wine they make at the restaurant and we haven't had such great red wine anywhere else! read more

This place is a tourist trap that should be avoided. The the bread was probably from the day before and they couldn't toast it only burn it. The ribeye was looked so nice but was extremely chewy and just not edible. The tuna salad was nice and my daughter enjoyed the roast pork but I thought it was just OK. The fries were most unfortunately soggy. It is right next to Château with many other restaurants and just keep on walking. read more

(2 of us for dinner on Wednesday in March). Walked in without reservations. Place was busy, so we were happy to be seated right away. Service was attentive and friendly. Food is amazing, some of the best we've had in France over 2 weeks. Never tasted but quite good fish bread with olives for the amuse bouche. Green veggie soup for me, delectable bone marrow for my friend (second best bone marrow I've tasted on the planet). I got the fish for main plate, my friend the epic-size steak n frites which comes out on a ginormous cutting board (reminded me of the restaurant scene with John Candy in The Great Outdoors). Desserts were probably the best we've had in France: Paris-brest & Mille-Feuille d'Arlette. Damn, so divine. Kir Royal great, but the bottle of Cabernet Franc that was recommended, oh my goodness, incredible. So incredible, I bought another bottle to take home with me. Is Coq a Vin supposed to be rubbery and 85% bones and gristle? Had this 'special' tonight and it was quite concerning given the reviews of the restaurant are at a 4.3 as of 11/17/23. Aren't specials designed to be a top, and delicious, seller for the night? The French onion soup, on the other hand, was excellent. Fantastic!! Great service and even better food!! Wow!!! We sat outside and everything was perfect from the cocktails to the dessert. Pate Mason and escargot was great. American family visiting from Los Angeles & first trip to France- Chez Bruno was a lovely restaurant. A comfortable atmosphere and perfect service. The food was 5 star rating. The volume level was good because you could hear each other and talk to one another. It was not overly crowded like most restaurants we've been to where you're sitting directly next to someone. Stopped in for lunch while my boyfriend and I were visiting here recently. Came in when it wasn't too busy, but it really packed up as the lunch hour went on so may be good to get a reservation. Ordered the beef tartare and mussels with fries to split, as well as a glass of cab franc. The beef tartare was excellent, with really great flavors and a huge portion size. The mussels were also huge but delicious. Tons of food to get through, might recommend sharing one dish and an appetizing depending on how hungry you are. Wine was great as well. We ended up going to Bruno's three times while visiting Amboise. It was a really nice place. The staff was nice and the food was really good. Since they had great daily specials, we were able to have new dishes each time. We traveled with a small dog and she was well taken care of as well. The view of the castle walls while enjoying a great meal was a definite plus. read more

Summary: Great atmosphere and service. Dine with the view of the Chateau. Service is very friendly and accommodates English speakers without fuss. Food is OK. It's a standard French fair, which includes duck, cod, beef, pork and smoked salmon, of course. They have a great wine list with representatives from many of the French wine areas. Chez Bruno is a must try in Amboise. Located in the pretty Amboise town on the main street by the castle, it's not surprising why this one restaurant is more crowded than the neighboring restaurants. Highly recommend making an advance reservation, especially during weekends and during busy seasons. With lovely indoor and outdoor seating, Chez Bruno is a popular choice among tourists and locals. During our final days of vacation in France (10/19/2018) my wife and I were visiting the chateau's in the area. We selected Chez Bruno because of a recommendation in a travel guide. I had pork, which was ok but forgettable, my wife had the duck, which was her undoing. She was sick for the next 1.5 days. A colon cleansing of the ages was the "end" result. This is a great dining option in Amboise. There are plenty of seats outside and inside too. Its got a casual ambiance but the staff are very attentive. There is a short selection of dishes on the menu. I had the goats cheese salad to start and the lamb special for my main course- they were both excellent. We were a party of 5 and everyone enjoyed their meal. It was very busy the night we went but everything was quick and smooth. We drank a lovely red- Cotes de Ventoux- that was on the board as a special. I would highly recommend a visit to Chez Bruno. This place is excellent!!! We have had some excellent food while in France and this place is right up there with some of the best and it is very reasonable. Please do not miss the onion soup! The soup alone could be a meal. We had the veal and the steak and both were really good but the potatoes that came with the plate stole the show. i'd read about this restaurant on Tripadvisor and really wanted to try it out. it was only open one night during our stay - they are closed Sun and Mon. they were booked and wanted to turn us away. i asked if they would have a table later and they said they could take us at 9pm. it was well worth waiting for the late dinner time. we had the best meal of our trip here! my pork with apricots was so good! my mom had the steak with red wine sauce. both were delicious and perfectly cooked but the gratin of potatoes stole the show. they literally melted in our mouths. oh wow, they were amazing!!!! i didn't have room for dessert but the menu looked amazing. some poached pear dish caught my eye, but i was too full of pork and steak to try it out. read more

We came to Amboise for vacation and came to eat here as our first restaurant. We ordered very different menus but all selections were excellent my family of two children and three adults totally enjoy their meals and we would definitely come back here again. Reservations are a must as this place is packed. I would recommend the escargot the french onion soup was delicious and in fact the entire menu was extraordinary.
