Good kosher food is hard to find in Canada. It's near impossible in Toronto, let alone Ontario. I've found one can find good Kosher food in Ottawa, but Montreal is a whole different ball game. Last time I was at Chez Benny was about 6 years ago and I'm still thinking about their Shawarma in a Laffa. I couldn't finish it and I sure as hell wanted to. Mind you, I did have a fantastic lunch for the next day. I'd put it on par with Doctor Laffa in Toronto. But it is delightful to know that there is a great option the next time I travel to Montreal (which I am severely due for). I was dragged here by a friends with dietary restrictions. I was pretty excited to get some falafel but was unfortunately let down. The highlight was the falafel itself. It was tasty and made with green chickpeas which was nice for a change. Everything else was underwhelming. The pitas come straight from a bag without being warmed up. The salads were put in first and the falafel on top so after a few bites, all you have left is salad. Some of the salads were so salty that I couldn't eat it. Compared to other falafel I've had, it was pretty bad. It is overpriced for what it is but I was explained that this is the norm for kosher restaurants. Went in today for the first time in several years and ended up getting barked at by the cook behind the counter even before I could explain what I was asking for which was simply not to toast my bread I was answered very rudely and told to wait my turn and wait. Was there with my sister and brother both of them were treated the same way considering what they charge you think they'd be a little more courteous to the clients was very disappointed and unfortunately I won't go back that's my experience truthful as it is. read more

Good was very good. I had the General Tao Chicken with Won Ton Soup. My wife had the Shwarma Plate was pretty good. Service is HORRIBLE. You need to order and pay at register than go back to individual stations depending on what you order. Chinese station, Shwarma Station and Sandwich section. Amazing atmosphere, and great food! It has a nice modern updated look, kind of like a modern diner. Also has a terrasse and televisions with trending live sports. As a kosher restaurant, it is comparitively cheap but some items are somewhat pricey, like their asian dishes. Overall the portions are generous, and the quality is good. Service can take some time, but it is worth the wait in the end. If I could recommend some of their dishes, it would be the mergez baguette, shish taouk laffa or a classic shawarma pita. As for their sauces, I like their creamy and tangy burger sauce, and their insanely spicy sauce if you're up to it. read more

Good food but extremely SLOW in receiving your order. I usually go there and also order delivery/take out and in both cases they're not efficient in delivering an "express" service as their name has been advertised. Gotta find a way to standup as a "fast"food restaurant. read more

THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER, I MEAN, EVER!!! So, I live across the street from Chez Benny. I went there a few times and started noticing how bad their customer service is. I went there 4 or 5 times before I just couldn't take it anymore. They treat their customers like they are doing them a favor by taking their money and preparing the orders. If you don't mind wasting your time then go to this restaurant. But if you care about your time and like to be respected, DO NOT go to this place. Here is how they do business. Everytime I went there, the restaurant was completely empty. Yet, they make you wait to take your order and once you have already paid, they make you wait a lot more to prepare your order. I mean, I am literally standing in front of the guy who's supposed to prepare my order and he is just ignoring the fact that I am there. One day, I decided to just stand there with the receipt in my hands and nobody came to ask me how I wanted my pita sandwich until almost 15 minutes later (the restaurant was completely empty). By the way, on my second trip to this restaurant, I saw a customer ask to cancel his order because he got so frustrated that they were just letting him wait for no reason. But, what really made me realize that I was being an idiot for spending my money at this place, was when I stood in front of the cashier (an old grumpy man) for no less than 10 minutes as he had a sweet conversation on the phone (and no, he was not taking an order because I could hear what he was saying). After no longer having time to waste, I asked him if the restaurant was open (by then there were two people behind me, but no other customers in the restaurant). He simply looked at me (for the first time! he never asked me "can you please wait?") and said: "it will open in 5 minute when I am done talking on the phone". This was around 3pm, in other words, during their business hours. Now, if that's their restaurant and this is how they do business, I have no problem with that.
