I had actually seen the sign on the way up, but hadn't seen where the gas pump was. Now that I saw it, I parked right in front of it. As soon as I finished parking, I could see that I would need to re park in order for the pump to reach my tank, but I was pumped in a legal way which made it obvious that I was there to use the gas, so I figured I'd straighten it out after I paid. As I walked through the door, I noticed an unexpectedly cute selection of items, and also smelled and saw some food. I started to think, after I get gas, I'll move my car and then look around and maybe get something to eat here. But these thoughts were interrupted by someone yelling at me. "You need to come in and line up this way!" Bewildered, I looked around. Was I the person she was screaming at? "Like this! This way!" I wanted to comply with her, but had no idea what she was demanding. I began to wonder if she was having a psychotic episode. What do you do if you walk into the market and the clerk is screaming at you with a really mean voice and hatred in her eyes? She looked like she was on a lot of pills. "So the gas can go in!" "Oh..." I finally responded, "Yeah, I need to re park my car, I can see that." She softened ever so slightly. "Well what can I do for you?" "Can I just get $20 worth of gas?" She began screaming at me again. "You need to park it so that the gas cap is next to the tank!" I was like, "Whoa," (the way you would say to a wild animal, which is how she was conducting herself), "I'm from California. I know how to pump gas." This put her anger on steroids. "YOU DON'T PUMP IT! WE PUMP IT!" At this point I interrupted her to sort of scoff at her and say, "Okay, I'll re park my car, there's no need to get upset." I kind of laughed at her and walked out with her still yelling. I was beginning to tune her out anyway cause it's hard to listen to people when they're screaming like that. I re parked my car. A man, who gave off the vibe of being her son? Came out and pumped my gas. I said thank you. I would want to check this place out again but seeing this lady would be a major deterrent.

For those of us who don't live there, Corbett is the sort of tiny little hamlet that one drives…read morethrough (in the blink of an eye) on the way to other places, with very few reasons (and places) to stop and shop; the Corbett Country Market is basically the only exception to this rule. You're not even likely to encounter it, unless you happen to be headed to, or returning from Multnomah Falls along the Historic Columbia River Highway (highly recommended for its gorgeous views!), but if you do happen to pass by, a stop here is very recommended! They have everything here, from your standard convenience store staples, snacks and drinks, but also several other outstanding offerings: a hot deli (that includes pizza, chicken, sausages, wings and other things!), fresh baked goods, local produce and products, household supplies and sundries, surprisingly reasonably-priced gasoline (from an ancient, yet charming pump), and even liquor! Despite being out-of-the-way for the majority of Portland Metro residents, the Corbett Country Market has been around for over 100 years, which means they must be doing something right. And based on what I've seen, that "something" is "everything".

It takes a little less time if you go through the drive-thru, but still, the response times are abysmal. There's always a wait line to check out at this store. Always. It's tedious and annoying. But…read moretoday, Saturday March 16 at approximately noon, something special happened: the wait line was greeted and acknowledged by a wonderful cashier. I've never seen that happen until now. She engaged with every customer with a smile and enthusiastic greeting. The gentleman before me was trying to apply points for his purchase...an annoying and tedious process...and I had a badly sprained wrist so I was slow and clumsy, but she was supportive and very helpful in moving things along. She apologized to the customers in line, greeting each with a warm smile. (She also gave me some kind advice about using horse linament for my badly sprained wrist, but I was too distracted by pain to pay attention.) She was altogether wonderful. Please give this kind-hearted, generous employee a raise! She exemplifies the best of customer service!!!! I am having a miserable weekend filled with pain and unable to use my right hand. I accepted that nothing good would happen this day. But boy, I was surprised by the kindness and consideration of this cashier for every customer waiting to check out. She has been the bright spot in my miserable day. Thank you for hiring her, and please, please give her a raise!!!

Recently I went in and asked for something from the back, with nobody else in there. I was given a very snarky and passive aggressive attitude the second I asked. Then when the woman worker who stunk of stale cigarettes returned, she told me they were out. I confronted her because I could clearly see they had it inside the cooler behind the shelving. When I called her out, she tried to play it off that she didn't see it, but really she didn't think I saw that she didn't even bother to look. I let it slide, chalked it up to someone having a bad day. I came back today, several weeks later, to have a some propane tanks filled for an upcoming camping trip. I usually go to another local place, but theirs was out of service today. Kia strolled over to the propane fill at her own slow leisure, giving off inconvenienced body language. Immediately she began studying all of the propane canisters and not saying a word. After about five minutes of her deep expert analysis, I asked if something was wrong, and she told me all 5 of the tanks I brought in were expired and she wouldn't fill them. Even though she couldn't read the embossed date codes, I had to point them out to her. They were not expired. Every single tank is still within its certification requirement. I told her that wasn't true and all I got in return was that if I brought in an exchange bottle, she can fill those, then she walked away. My tanks were not out of certification, Kia just didn't want to be troubled with standing in the un-air conditioned shaded covered area to fill tanks. She casually strolled her way back inside to stock fish bait and that's why she'll always be a dead-end convenience store clerk. I went to the local professional place that does propane as one of their primary sources of revenue, and he looked each one over and verified my claim they were all within certification. Good luck with minimum wage, Kia Scott

The staff is constantly changing and rude. One example. I recently stopped in to buy some fried chicken from the deli. It was 10 minuted to 7:00 pm. The sign on the counter says they close the deli at 7:00. When I asked for chicken )which there was a very large pile, the employee reached over and flipped off the light on the counter and said they couldn't sell me any. I asked why and she said it was too late. I pointed to the sign that says they close in 10 minutes, and she said they are allowed to close 15 minutes early. Tonight, I tried again to give them another chance. This time a new deli person, who told me she had been there 4 months, was extremely rude and condescending to an elderly gentleman who asked for ranch dressing for his jojo's. She told him no, and pointed to a sign that said it was only given with chicken. She said very sarcastically 'change is hard for some people, as he walked away.
