I'm getting cranky in my old age. No, that's not true, I've always been a bit cranky. My van was running on fumes and needed gas. I pulled into this Chevron Station. I waited a minute and no one came out to pump my gas, so I pumped my own.
While my wife kept an eye on the pump, I went into the fully stocked convenience store. I was greeted when I stepped in. I asked where the restroom was and was informed that they didn't have one. I thanked the clerk and went back to the pump, shutting it off at 6.7 gallons. I pressed the button for a receipt and the display informed me that the receipt was inside the store.
I went back in and asked the same clerk for my receipt which he promptly gave me. While he was getting it, another man who did not obviously appear to be an employee asked if he could help me. The cashier told him that I had already pumped my own gas.
When I got back to my hotel, I checked online and read several articles that stated that urban gas stations in Oregon are still required to pump gas for "safety reasons" and that retailers that allowed customers to self-service could be fined up to $500 by the Oregon State Fire Marshal.
If the gentleman was a paid employee whose job was to pump gas, he should have come out when I pulled up. If he wasn't, then the cashier probably shouldn't let him offer to help customers. If the station doesn't care either way who pumps the gas, that's a whole different issue for someone else to correct.
A 'convenience store' without a public restroom is not convenient to me.
Whatever the reason is for there to not be an available restroom for paying customers, you'll not get my business. Not a huge deal for you, I'm sure, but you missed out on another 10-gallons of sales.
