I've been coming to this location for 20 years. I usually get great, friendly service. But who is…read morethis guy behind the register on a tues. evening ? I cashed out a winning scratcher, bought another ticket, and ended up with $5 leftover. They guy just stood there mute. Finally, I said I'll take the rest in cash. Instead of saying, "Anything else?" or "Anything else, sir?" the guy just mutters under his breath, "can't read your mind." And when I say mutters, I mean says out loud very clearly but not too loud passive agressive chicken-s**t sort of way. I've been on the other side of a register and managed cashiers myself. Only places I can think of where you can be rude to the customer is Harold's Chicken Shack and the Wiener Circle in Chicago. I guess I'll be taking my business across the street to the shiny new 76 gas station where I'm pretty sure they train their cashiers properly.

I had been drinking and wanted a little more so I decided to walk to seven eleven. I wasn't at all too intoxicated I could talk and walk and I was perfectly fine. I am of age aswell and had my ID and there was a worker who was on the heavy side shorter, bald, white and wanted to tell me I was too drunk and he wouldn't sell a fireball to me... I tried to talk and insist that I walked and that I had been coming here for awhile I am perfectly fine to buy more. After about 4-5 minutes of back and forth he tried to call the police.. I left to go to the pinnacle across the street and had no trouble buying what I needed from there. I'm just so lost as to what his right was to deny me alcohol. I wasn't tripping over and doing too much, and even someone else who was in there was on my side, this worker must of been on a power trip because I can't believe that.

She was genuinely nice to me, I had a great customer service experience with her. She really made me feel that local true community feeling, honestly how it should be. She was so nice when I mentioned it was my first time - she truly authentically welcomed me with such a kind tone and even walked me through signing up for their points system (much better than Market of Choice coupons this actually adds up toward your grocery bill)!!! Much of which you can find far cheaper across the street at Safeway, or at least something close to it. Not everything, of course, but if the local hotel/apartment denizens need a emergency package/can of whatever, not sure why they'd not go to Safeway. Also, and I'm sure this is just a startup issue, but a lot of the goods were unpriced, either on the items or on the shelf labels. Beer, some wine, no produce, a few dairy items, a frozen treat case. Newport Market this ain't. One feature, I'm told, is that they can order anything internationally. In these days of Amazon, I'm not sure how big a draw that might constitute. But maybe. Parking at the Westside Village shopping center is already a bit of a zoo and from what I can see, many of the commercial spaces are not yet tenanted. Those folks looking to go to Banger & Brews might soon be miffed at the difficult parking. A-OK. It's different than the norm here in Bend and that's a good thing.

We expected a variety of good eats as take out options here based on the marketing materials for Bodega so braved downtown parking specifically to go here to pick up something good to eat to take with us to the house we were staying at for a few days as visitors. Here is what is described in their marketing stuff: "We prep it, you take it home, and knock the pants off your family and friends. The grab-and-go meals and grocery essentials at Bodega are inspired by our travels throughout Mexico, Spain, Israel, and the Mediterranean. .. Worth the trip downtown? Uh huh. Satisfy those mid-day hangries? Yup. Best of all, we can bottle it, box it, and you take it home. That's the beauty of Bodega. " What we found in the grab and go cold case was a few plastic containers of two kinds of salad, one of which looked as if it had been there a while. The girl at the counter didn't bother to look up from the book she was reading as we walked in or at any time to ask if she could help even though my husband and I were clearly talking about our confusion for limited options for fresh take out and wondering if we were looking in the wrong spot. Finally we interrupted her reading to ask her about it and she looked up, answering our questions and when we asked how to tell which salad was the was freshest she answered that question too. We felt very much as if we were interrupting her free time. Maybe we hit them on a bad day, Bar Rio is closed on Mondays for example, and if the options are coming from that kitchen, maybe the low inventory was due to that. But the lack of service didn't help. On the flip side, someone walked in who works at another of the downtown stores, picked up a candy bar and she and the woman behind the counter had a friendly chat about the reading material. I think if you were working downtown and popped in for something like a bag of chips (big selection for such a small space), or soda or candy bar or package of cheese this would work swell. It may even work well if you are downtown anyway on some other day but Monday when they are better stocked to grab something to take with you. But for what we expected, helpful service and good selection of take away prepared foods, we found neither. It was not a return on the effort to find downtown Bend parking to to in.
