I went hiking here last weekend, and it honestly took my breath away…read more As a SoCal girl now living in NorCal, I've made it my mission to explore as much as I can around this beautiful state, and Jedediah Smith Redwoods completely stole my heart. These trees are absolutely massive, walking among them feels like stepping into another world. The light, the air, the silence... everything feels calm, ancient, and sacred. The trails are super well maintained, the weather was perfect, and there was plenty of parking even though it was busy. The roads and trails are a bit narrow, but honestly, that just adds to the charm. The river that runs through the park is crystal-clear and peaceful a perfect little spot to stop and take it all in. Standing next to those giant redwoods makes you realize how tiny you are in the best possible way. It's humbling and magical at the same time If you're driving from Eureka toward Crescent City, the entire drive is breathtaking, every curve along the coast looks like a postcard. You'll even pass through Elk Valley, and oh my god, there are actual elks just hanging out by the side of the road! They're so beautiful and so used to seeing people; it felt like nature welcoming you in. If you love hiking, nature, or just want to feel grounded and amazed, this place is a must. California, you really outdid yourself with this one.

My first thought was that it is more remote than I had for some reason assumed. I really appreciated the relatively large spans of almost no civilization and all nature. Second thought, the entire Oregon coast is stunning...the most beautiful coast line in the country in my humble opinion. Rugged, treed, full of wildlife, serene. Third note, the corridor did have the most rock formations as compared to other parts of our coast, very fun to admire, especially from the higher vantage points of the many, many viewpoints along the route. Overall, a stunning area...but let's be real...it's just another jaw-droppingly beautiful piece of a state overflowing with spectacular sights.

9/19/26: The Oregon…read moreCaves National Monument was so cool today! (In both the literal and figurative senses....it was 44 degrees in there...) I bought tickets online (recreation.gov) about a month ago for the discovery tour. It was a straightforward drive to get to the Illinois Valley Visitor Center in Cave Junction (good place to stop for info, bathrooms, and to buy tickets if you haven't already - very helpful to be able to buy them BEFORE making the drive out to the cave itself). From there, it took a full hour to get on the sometimes narrow, often twisty (but very well-maintained and paved) road that led to the parking lot. We got there early and had time to walk to the main visitor center (about 1/8 mile from the parking lot) and see their well-designed interactive cave display. I checked in well before our tour time and they moved us up into an earlier tour spot - nice! We had time to eat lunch (brought with us) and change into long pants and warm jackets before meeting our tour guide. Ranger Ellie was awesome! Not only did she know about the cave's history and geology, she mixed in a ton of good humor with the information and gave us all time to look at the cave features we were passing while keeping us moving along. She was also great about telling us about how to navigate the cave's paths, stairs, and low-clearance areas safely. Though I'm 6'1" and had to duck a lot, Ranger Ellie prepared us so well throughout the tour that my head remained unscathed! The cave itself is truly awe-inspiring. Incredible formations throughout, pretty well-lit, and the pathways were all paved and well-marked. Every staircase felt sturdy, too, so even climbing stairs up into high places felt safe, even if the going was slow going up and down. (I'm glad I wore hiking boots.) It really was something to see amazing formations and an underground river traveling right through the mountain up close. It was cold in there (44 degrees, like a fridge!) so I'm glad I took my winter coat. The whole tour was about a mile, but seemed longer and had lots of steps. Even as a tall person, there were places for me to stand at my full height at all the tour stops. Once we were out, my friend and I walked the mile-ish loop around the top of the mountain at the cave's exit to take in the views - HIGHLY recommend doing this after. Tips: - Stop at the visitor center in Cave Junction for road info / bathroom break ahead of time - they'll tell you if walk-up tickets are sold out, too - plan on needing a full hour to get from Cave Junction to the parking lot - and drive SLOWLY - There's a 1/8 mile walk from the parking lot to where you check in for tours - get there at least an hour before your tour - It's COOL / COLD in the cave so dress accordingly! I've wanted to go here for years and it was SO much better than I was expecting. I look forward to coming back and trying the candlelight tours and some of their other hikes! Great job to the staff there who keep everything so clean, well-maintained, safe, and fun.

I loved it here. There are many ways to explore the redwoods but having something off the side of…read morethe road with easy access and a skywalk and gondola was super convenient. There's a large gift shop with anything you'd need as well as a museum of Native American information and artifacts. One cool thing is that they had a couple of bathrooms in the woods. This is major for people with kids or who drink way too much coffee and need to go to the bathroom a lot. I just liked exploring. The skywalk was great, I loved being high up and feeling like I was one with the forest. That being said it was more wobbly than I thought. Other than it being hard to walk and take pictures at the same time, it wasn't a big deal but for anyone that is slightly afraid of heights or doesn't have good balance I wouldn't recommend because it's long and you are stuck up there having to finish. You aren't allowed to pass people. The front has beautiful landscaping. It had many colorful flowers and a small dahlia garden as well as dahlias lining the front. It looks like it is very well maintained, I'm into flowers and I could see coming out here just to take pictures of the dahlias.

I've driven Route 66 and love all the quirky giant roadside attractions, so I just HAD to come see the giant Paul Bunyan. I cannot rate the actual Trees of Mystery as I didn't go in, but Paul Bunyan and Blue the Ox were a sight to see. My middle kid kept saying, "What the heck is that?!? His eyes freak me out!" Have you seen the giant doll on Squid Games? It totally reminded me of her. I was just waiting for lasers to come out of his creepy eyes. He also waves and someone in the building goes on the mike as Paul and talks to guests when they're walking near Paul or taking pictures with him. So funny! When walking through the gift shop, I came across the End of the Trail Museum. It's located on the east side of the gift shop and contains artifacts from various Native American groups around the continent. It was apparently from the private collection of Marylee Thompson Smith. It's free to visit and was so interesting, I think I spent about an hour in there looking at the collection.

Just some notes on the trail, follow the beach signs carefully, one of them in the beginning is not very noticeable, so stay right when the trail forks, even though it feels like you're going the wrong way! There are some steep spots but If you take it slow you'll make it just fine.

These natural bridges are a testament to the power and beauty of nature…read more The Oregon coast is filled with some of the most amazing viewpoints and this one really shouldn't be missed. It's very short, about .5 miles and there's virtually no elevation. Parking is right off the highway. Some hike deeper into the forest and actually make their way on top of the bridges. Unfortunately some have also died doing so. Know your limits. There is a trail beyond the paved path and at some point it gets very steep and sketchy. This is where you should stop and turn around. It's best to enjoy these bridges from a distance and find much safer hikes to take which there are many of in this area. Happy hiking!

Stunning, breathtaking ocean and forest views. Well worth a stop! There is a 2.7 mile hiking trail…read moredown to the beach from this overlook. We didn't have time to hike the whole thing today (it is 5.4 miles round trip), but we hiked out on this trail for about 20 minutes and then hiked about 20 minutes back, and we both thought it was well worth the time to do that. We saw wild irises along the trail, many beautiful trees of all shapes and sizes, more incredible ocean vistas, and a monarch butterfly! I personally quite love hiking trails that have arch-like overhangs of trees over parts of the trail. Happily, the beginning jaunt of this trail had several such arches of greenery. It is magical to be enclosed by trees on both sides of me *and* also overhead! Some stretches of this trail have somewhat steep elevation gain. Other sections of the trail were very muddy when we hiked this trail today, to the extent that our shoes could've sunk several inches in to mud if we weren't watching where we stepped. There was no one there except for us today! It is a week day morning, so this park may be far more crowded on the week-ends. But it was so peaceful to enjoy this place all to ourselves! Loved this hike and would do it again this trip if I had time. We went at a fast pace and it was…read moredoable for all ages 12 to 69. I was a little worried about the rope climb at the bottom to the beach but it was a breeze (I'm 67). The tide was out so we spent a lot of time on the rocks, looking at the tide pools, walking the beach and letting the 3 dogs run. We went during the week in June and had the beach to ourselves. The day was super windy but the trail and beach were blocked from most of it. The views from the trail are spectacular and so many wildflowers and mushrooms to see. Not a huge parking area so I could see where it might be tight on the weekends. Several of us were in flip flops but I would wear my hiking shoes if I was to go back.
