They have a large-multi level parking lot, as well as various outdoor parking lots throughout the area. For entertainment, you have the SuperLux movie theater, Kings Bowling, and the Apple Store. They have a ton of stores such as Banana Republic, Nike, Vineyard Vines and more. For food, there is a plethora of options including Yard House, Genki Ya Sushi, Shake Shack, CAVA, and Temazcal (and more!) - you really can't go wrong here. This is one of my favorite shopping areas, it's always fun to walk the "cube" and then stop for a movie or bite to eat.

At one time this was a pretty servicable shopping location, with requisite anchors like Bradlees, Sears, and Woolworth's. In addition, it had some smaller retailers and a few restaurants and was relatively easy to navigate. While it wasn't too high-end it did the job for people living between Boston and Providence and was enough of a destination to keep people coming back often. That Dedham Mall met a need. Today, though, it's just a sprawling blot on the suburban Boston retail landscape. While once among its stores were some unique offerings today it's just chain stores and that diminishes the selection and choice available to shoppers. Granted, Bradlees and Woolworth's aren't around any more but they new mall has simply brought in other more-of-the-same chain stores to replace them. The "mall," isn't even under one roof any more, as half of it lies under the old structure while the rest (Dick's Sporting Goods, Super Stop & Shop, Starbucks, etc.), is located in separate buildings across the parking lot. No longer can shoppers stay warm and dry while doing all of their errands under one roof. The "mall," isn't a "mall," any more, it's a shopping complex and that takes away some of the convenience that once made the Dedham Mall so attractive. About the best things that can be said for this incarnation of the Dedham Mall are that it's got a ton of parking and that it's easy to reach from Boston or points south. With the dominance of the chains, their homogenized product lines, and the sprawling character of this complex the Dedham Mall has lost a lot of its uniqueness and the shopper-friendly character that once made it a destination. Shopping at the Dedham Mall used to be a pleasure, now it's a chore. Too bad. They really had something here and they've lost it.

They have not done a good job with upkeep. Otherwise, it's a quaint, little plaza sitting on the VFW Parkway. Doesn't have much, but is a gem of a find for a discount hunter. Savers and Dollar Tree are it. Both are good stores with loads of parking. They did fix the stop sign, which was a nice change of speed for the maintenance team. Overall, it's decent for the Dollar Tree and Savers, but doesn't serve the area with anywhere actually providing necessities (like a pharmacy or small grocery store...), as it previously did. It doesn't compare to other shopping centers in the area, and doesn't provide left turns onto the VFW Parkway (every single time I have to go up the parkway, and then make a u-turn.... so annoying). 2 stars for this plaza. Much improvement needed.

Having moved from the area between Packard's Corner and Coolidge Corner, I was afraid that we would…read morereally feel that we are out in the 'burbs when moving to Newton. The Newton Highlands area is adorable. The little strip of shops and restaurants gives us a little place to walk around on the weekend. We have learned the hits and misses and are enjoying the process of learning our favorite places to dine and shop. While I still miss the late hours of the places on Comm and Brighton Ave, I'm adjusting to sprinting down the street to get sushi before is closes... at 9pm. The train station is directly on Walnut Street, making going to and from this area of Newton very accessible. The highlands abuts Needham and Needham Street so it might get over looked in comparison to the many shops on Needham St but give the Highland's a try.
