The veg section smells like sick... in the last two weeks I've been 3-4 times and each time the fresh produce section stinks... it's really off-putting and means I don't end up buying anything fresh. There's also a larger than normal amount of rude people shopping there. Pushing past you, generally irate customers... on top of this we always seem to get a member of staff on the checkouts that is stuck on slow... All in all I like having a good meander around to see what the retail giants have on offer but I find when I visit ASDA Hulme I just want to get out of there ASAP. Sorry ASDA Hulme you just don't cut mustard... and you stink...

Because as students in a time where most clubs/pubs did not have a 24hr license and shut at 1am/2am there was nothing more fum that a drunken wander around asda to see what rubbish we could buy. When we arrived in Manchester we had no idea that round the corner to our delight there was....a 24hr Asda. However gone are the days that we cannot stay in the clubs/pubs til 4am and now Asda has become to us what it is to every other grown up individual....a hassle on a Sunday, an obstacle course through crying children and down and outs. I am only consoled by the fact we do stay in the clubs/pubs till 4am and that our drunken trips to ASDA have not ceased to continue because we are getting old and boring. Asda we still love you, we love you for making us feel at home wherever we go.

They constantly ignore the Councils rules and regulations when it comes to delivery trucks and have coming past everyone's property along the the streets throughout every night, regardless of the hour. They allow folk to tie their barking pets outside whilst the customers do a 'shop', which can take a long, long time. Customers take note : your lovely dog can be stolen and used for bait in dog fights! How can you be so cruel? If your pet barks outside a store, it is distressed and it is telling you so! If you return to that place where you put your dog, and it's not there, enjoy feelings of guilt for the rest of your life! It is probably being chewed up by now! When I complained and explained this to Asda, and asked them not to encourage it by leaving a water bowl out, their response was that they would rather customers choosing to leave their dogs there at least had a drink! What? Like having their last meal before a death sentence? How considerate! So yes, Asda are pretty good with customers. Just not very clued in with pets and the heavy truck loads through the night.

There was definitely some comedy value in him coaxing customers to buy whatever he was trying to sell, it was actually witty banter!! The good thing about this Asda is actually its location. You see it's surrounded by a host of other stores with this one being the focal point of attention. As I discover Blackpool more I like it more, slowly but surely I am dispelling a tarnished image I have of it and it's growing on me. Unlike other Asda stores this has a nice deli/cafe which you;d actually want to sit down and eat in!! The toilets were immaculately clean and again "usable" which isn't something you can say for a lot of them. The different sections were all massive as was this whole place, and after Manchester's walmart (near the city stadium) this is the biggest one I have been to. Blackpool has an Asda walmart people!!

What I like about this place is despite being a very standard supermarket store, it has authentic touches like a nice deli, and a butchers shop, which actually looks like a butchers. I called in here on my way home, I had already got some shopping from another supermarket but due to having to get a long bus ride on the X43 Witchway, which stops at the Premier Inn nearby, I wanted to grab some milk and fresh fruit before heading home, obviously, I didn't want them to go off in the sun which is why I wanted to find them from here, sadly they didn't have the brand of milk which I liked or any prepared melons, so I had to leave empty-handed.... at first I thought "No problem, mistakes happen" and that's until I met a cashier. I used the Scan as You Shop handheld devices, as I hadn't bought anything, I still had to queue to hand my device to the employee, only for her to stare into my bag (without permission), take my scanner off me and radio through to the security, I was stopped from leaving from a man who spoke very little English and just repeated "checkout, checkout, you come", I was guided back to the checkout, at this point I was confused and I was told to "pay for my shopping" even though I explained the items I wanted were not in stock and I told them to check the CCTV footage as not only did I not steal anything, I had not touched a single item on their shelves, they didn't apologise too, the security guard still stared at me, trying to make me comfortable, and the store employee wearing a headscarf simply replied, "I'm just doing my job". I think that is ridiculous, especially considering the security guard saw me walk in with the heavy bag in the first place. Due to the poor stock of basic items and how I was treated, how I was embarrassed and made to feel like a criminal with no remorse from the shop, I have to say this Tesco store is one I will NEVER visit again. 1*

It is probably the largest convenience store in the city centre, stocking a range of essentials and a little bit more over two floors, you can get between the floors using an escalator, but there also is lift access (the lift is super slow though and has been for years!). There is a decent selection of to-go food and drinks, including a Costa Express coffee machine, you can also find the occasional item on the small yet useful hot food counter, but that does tend to go fast. The layout of the store is easy to follow, I personally dislike the two-floor format for a store like this, as it means having to spend more time going up/down escalators and searching around the store, this is the type of store you want to get in and out quickly, and being over two floors and a lack of supporting mobile payment similar to Sainsbury's and Marks and Spencer nearby, there are drawbacks. Most of the staff seem friendly and helpful, but there are a couple of bad apples. There are plenty of self-service checkouts, and a couple of manned checkouts too, there always seems to be a handful of machines either not in use or broken down, so there's always a wait at the checkout for some reason. The prices are much higher now than they were under the Tesco Metro brand, so you are paying a good bit more than you would in a regular Tesco store, which is annoying! 4* - A good and large store in the city centre, yet could be far better.

To add to my past comments, with 2 reviews it seems like this place likes getting reviewed every 4 years, with a review in 2008 and 2012, I am interested yet delighted to continue that tradition. Now away from my rambling, and back to my original review this is a fairly nice branch of Tesco in the city centre of Manchester, albeit being a small branch it still is fairly nice and modern and it does stand out and look quite nice with glass windows, you could tell me it was only a few months old, and with no prior knowledge to where this store was built I would believe you, but I know that isn't the case which is good going really for a supermarket. The range seemed to basically cover your basic essentials, with a nice amount of manned and self-service tills, and the inside of the store seemed different, but in a good way too, much more modern and stood out more, they had similar signs to the bigger supermarkets, but it just seemed cooler, which was good. Overall, this is a cool place to go in the city centre, especially around the Manchester Universities to pick up some essentials, and deserves a solid 3 stars.

They have plenty of trolleys outside where you put £1 coin in to unlock and thankfully they're somewhat under cover so if you have a young child with you there is no need to fumble around for tissues to dry the seat! The store is relatively new and it shows in both it's design and appearance as it's large, open, well lit, neat and somewhat inviting. The aisles are nice and broad so no jostling and struggling to get past other shoppers and it's easy to navigate around the store. They have a broad range of stock such as bread, cakes, biscuits, domestic cleaning items, toiletries, fruit and vegetables, chilled goods, frozen goods, tinned goods, pet stuff and drinks as well as their often random yet very good value offers on anything from tv's to toys. However, although I can do my weekly shop at Netto, I find it difficult to cover all 'bases' of what I need at Aldi, however it is a good place to start and the prices are not to be sniffed at. It's worth periodically looking on their website at their special offers as they have some complete bargains on offer. Remember when shopping here that you will have to pay for any carrier bags you require so we always take a stash of reusable shopping bags with us which saves money and gives you eco brownie points. One of my favourate items from here is their night and their day facial creams for woman, they have had excellent reviews in the media and are so cheap it would be silly not to at least try them, I use them and am very satisfied with them. My only real gripe with this store is the staff. they seem terminally understaffed. It's very rare to ever see a member of staff on the shop floor to approach and it's rare that they have more then two tills staffed, usually it's just one and often it's the assistant manager operating it! We did recently have one bad experience here. We went to buy fireworks as they are extremely well priced and good quality. the assistant manager took the money for them and then continued serving. It took ten minutes and a disgruntled sound from our camp to actually send him (tutting would you believe it, the cheek of it!) to GET the item we'd paid for. In my opinion this is atrocious customer service (or lack of!) and especially from an assistant manager. However, this is the only 'true' negative experience we've had and it will not prevent us from shopping there in the future.
