This evening was the first time I'd been in Ches's Fish and Chips on Topsail Road in a year or…read moremore.I had a work colleague from Ontario visting who wanted to experience some authentic Newfoundland fish and chips. So where else would I suggest other than Ches's. I didn't catch the name of our server, but boy was she ever friendly. A very approachable individual with an excellent attitude. Even the lady who offered us a mini cupcake was very nice; making jokes and teasing us with cheerful banter. My colleague enjoyed speaking with the ladies so much that he opted to purchase a desert. We both ordered a two (2) piece fish and chips with dressing and gravy on the side; plus a can of Pepsi and an Orange Crush to drink. We took our meal to go and it was about twenty minutes or so before we actually got to eat, but neither of us were disappointed. Although I have tried to stay away from deep fried foods recently due to high cholesterol, my meal was a pure joy to eat. It was as good as I remembered from the last time I ate at Ches's; even if I did feel a little guilty about eating greasy food late in the evening (it was a little past 9:30 pm before we got to eat. If I were to complain about anything it would be nothing about the food or the service we received. I enjoyed my meal, but I don't remember the price being as much as it is now compared to the last time I ate at Ches's. Personally I think $20.00 plus change was a little steep for what we ate. Like I said, this is only a small complaint and wouldn't stop me from returning.

After being away for nearly 17 years nothing fills the void quite like a feed of Fish and Chips (with dressing and gravy of course). The service at Leo's is what you'd expect at any down home fish and chips; friendly and quick! Everyone is "me love", "darlin", or whatever sweet pet name the waitress feeling like calling you! The food is great! Albeit greasy, but maybe you should know that before coming in to dine. It's deep fried, all of it, so it's well... going to be greasy! The chips are friend to perfection, crispy and fluffy all in one. And the fish was in a nice light batter that carried the fish just so. I prefer the dressing and gravy here over the competitor, but over all it's on par. Oh, and the paper place mat adds to the nostalgia that this place represents. I'm excited to come back soon!

Service was friendly, and the fish was good, although it didn't quite blow my socks off. We also tried the seasoned fries, which had an interesting flavor reminiscent of savory stuffing.
