My favorite feature was the outdoor seating with firepits... we took advantage of the cooler evenings and nice weather with a drink by the fire. We wanted to try the bar on property but it never seemed to be open even during the stated business hours, that was annoying. My room was on the 2nd floor and had 2 queen beds, a chair and a dresser with fridge. Features I appreciated... the full length mirror on the closet door, double shades on the window, hairdryer, magnifying mirror and bathroom nightlight. No coffee maker in the room, there are some for guests to use in the hallways on each floor though. Be aware that some rooms have skylights with no cover directly over the bed. My room did not, thankfully, but a co-worker got a room like that and was very uncomfortable and of course the sun blazes in at first light right in your face. That needs to be addressed, imho. Enjoyed the walkability and location. Valet parking only as is typical of this area of Columbia'.

We loved it there…read more It felt very homey and having a kitchen to cook for our soldier made Family Day all the more better. We had a long trip to South Carolina so being able to wash clothes was a plus. Bring laundry soap (the little Pods are great for travel) and dryer sheets. Be sure to request extra towels if you need them. We were able to buy our food at the Wal-Mart across from Gate 4, but I would recommend going a little further and shop at Kroger, there is a better selection after the Tuesday night rush.

There is also a full kitchen, so making home cooked meals is amazing and definitely a plus. On the exterior these apartments appear run down and dated. I was pleasantly surprised by the accommodations inside. Not a luxury hotel but it was clean, and we all slept well visiting our soldier. We will stay again if we need to without worry. Tip: bring cooking/baking pans and utensils--while there were a couple pots and pans they were small and using your own if you can would be easier.

The owners of this venue take so much pride on the care and maintenance of the property, not to mention the gardens. It really is a special place tucked away from all of the hustle and bustle. We were able to walk around the farm to look at all the animals that were living their lives with not a care in the world. We even managed to save a little goat who got its head stuck in the fencing. We informed the owners and they headed out to free the little guy. There's plenty to see, including interesting farm equipment. They have a gift shop and café on site as well. We stopped in the café for some dessert to take back home with us and we bought a bunch of handmade soaps from the gift shop. This is a place you would want to visit with the kids or even come with some adult friends for a bite to eat but make sure you find out the café's operating times as they are limited.

The Lorick plantation home was moved from its nearby origin and lovingly restored to its original grandeur. An addition to the back of the building provides a museum of sorts with interesting information about the history of Lake Murray in the region. It's not the most impressive place in terms of display and interpretation, but it is a really neat place. The upstairs is closed off as it is offices, but the main level has a lot of original detail. What is always very interesting to a lot of people who have never been to plantation home is that they really weren't very large and they aren't always opulent. This is a great example of a midlands plantations for a successful family. You don't need to dedicate a lot of time for this place but if you are within reach I would definitely recommend stopping by.

Sesquicentennial state park is beautiful! They have 4 trails, including one trail (Sandhills trail)…read morethat loops around the lake, which makes for some great photos during sunrise or sunset. They have a little visitor center when you can buy a bunch of souvenirs, snacks, and can get a stamp in your SC state parks passport. If this review was solely on the trails and beauty, it would be a 5/5 but unfortunately the campsite brings it down a bit. The campsite is on the larger side, and has 3 bathhouses to accommodate the area (close to you). You are given the basics like a picnic table & fire ring. Sites 1-29 have 20/30/50 amps, and 36-84 have 20/30 amp electric hookups. Sites 1-9 are full service (also have sewer). These sites do not give you a lot of privacy, and it seems like they built as many sites as they could in a confined area instead of spreading the sites out a bit to give the camper a bit more privacy. The bathhouses are clean, but are very dated and are in desperate need of a renovation. If you are not a camper, you will be charged an entrance fee of $6 if you are an adult, $3.75 for seniors (65+), or $3.50 for children (6-15). Overall, a 5/5 for the beauty of the park and amenities outside of the campsite, but 2/5 for the campsite itself.
