Travelodge Cheshunt - And they call this a shower?

An absolute disaster of a hotel. The beds are ridiculous,…read moretwo minuscule beds shoved together to make one bed that's smaller than a queen. No dresser, no closet, no fridge, no electric jack by the bed, I just can't say enough about what a dump this place is. The room is very hot, unable to control the temperature, except by opening the window to a noisy freeway. Let's not forget the gross all you can eat breakfast. For the money they charge it's a travesty, 332 pounds for two nights. Stay in a bed-and-breakfast, a motel, or even an airbnb but stay away from this place.

This is one of the better Travelodge's I've stayed at! It's only opened in 2007 so is still quite…read moreshiney and clean. You get the usual Travelodge stuff - a pretty basic room and on-suite bathroom for a cheap price. It's got a bar / restaurant, which is handy as there isn't anywhere else particularly close to go and find something to eat. The quality of food is variable - some things on the menu can be quite decent but some is a bit ropey. I'd suggest avoiding the 'all you can eat' breakfast though, unless you like luke-warm sausages and scrambled egg! There's plenty of free parking so that's not an issue. It's right on the A10 next to the M25 so has got good road links to travel on to. This can be a problem though if you end up on the side of the building next to the A10 as the traffic noise can be a bit loud (try and ask for a room on the other side of the building). It's good value if you can get a room for under £30, although if you book late it can be over £50, which is stretching it a bit for what you get.

Very disappointed in this hotel. Have stayed at many Premier Inns around England, and have always…read moreenjoyed them. This one was really bad. Avoid it. Overall rather run down. Rooms were dirty. Walls were marked up. Carpet was nasty. AC unit didn't work. Room was very hot and stuffy. Basic Wi-Fi was terrible (even for simply sending emails) and cut out all the time so you had to sign back in over and over again to re-connect to it. I will say the front desk staff (and really the staff throughout the hotel) was very nice, but there is very little they can do considering the overall poor conditions of their hotel.

The restaurant is pretty good, but the hotel isn't that great. I ordered some take out from the…read morerestaurant and took it back to my room and was told that housekeeping would take my dishes back to the restaurant for me. Well I returned to my room and found that they didn't and my whole room smelled of old food. Needless to say I had to return the dishes myself which was a bit odd b/c I've never been to a hotel that didn't clean up dishes that were left out. So I would say the service is a bit lacking. And the front desk ladies weren't too nice either. And the ladies bathroom near the front desk is not very clean and also extremely warm which made it really uncomfortable to be in. Other than that the room was pretty good and I got a good nights rest. The bed is pretty firm. The shower was alright. The air in the room worked fine. The people in the restaurant were also very friendly.

Staff was lovely and nice. We used hubby's points to stay. So I can't complain about the price. The…read moreroom was clean except every time we left; when we came back there was always a smell. Very musty. The first noticeable thing was how dark the room was. At one point we had literally every light on and still found it to be dark and shadowy. The first morning hubby went to make coffee, that's when we learned the coffee maker didn't work. It couldn't hold water. Another night we were phoned that our room service was ready. That's how we learned the phone was not only not working but there was an oily fluid leaking from it. I love the no waste bottles for shampoo, soap lotion, etc. But would be nice if they were all checked ahead of time to make sure they worked (the one for lotion did not- it was fine, but again). Upon checking in we were asked about room service. Would we like daily service. We declined. Being extremely jet lagged we went to bed that evening and then was awoken by pounding at the door. Room services were there to clean. Might have been our misunderstanding but when we declined the service we thought that was enough.

The Kings Oak is the main pub in the park situated as it is right by the visitors centre and the forest car park. It's a place that is certainly welcome after a long hike where lunch cravings take over and aching thighs scream for pity. The place itself is not only a pub but a full blown venue that can be used for weddings and as a hotel though I have to admit the decor in the brochure that proudly sits on each table does seem to less Notting Hill and more My Big Fat Greek Wedding, still it may be perfect for some. We had lunch in the 'gastropub', a place where if you look (not too) hard the theme of the brochures is very reflected. The massive cherubs, neon pink walls, over the top mirrors and plastic antlers are all there if you look hard enough. We didn't come here for the cherubs though, we came here for the food and embibement; that is something they did well. The whole place had a great atmosphere. We had a couple of pasta dishes, some huge grilled cheeses and a fish and chips. The food itself wasn't bad but not at 'gastropub' levels in either presentation or complexity. The satisfying fish was crisp and well cooked but a little greasy and the chips tasty, chunky but hardly crispy. The other food was tasty and offered good value. Overall this isn't a bad pub if you like some cherub spotting and a decent meal after a long walk.
