Located in a small unassuming storefront in downtown North Adams (by the post office), Dilego's is easy to pass by. Don't pass by! Go visit. Say hi. Ask some questions. Dig out that old stone you've been meaning to reset, or that ring you've always talked about having resized. You will encounter no pressure, no rush, no pretentious sales tactics, no sizing you up to see if you're big bucks or cheap change. They just care about their customers and want you to be happy. They are the real deal. I collect antique rings, and am pretty jewelry obsessed. I had a very difficult, very special resizing job I needed done a while back -- an amazing turn of the century Belais ring from 1919, with a sweetheart inscription. The lovely Dilego's folks could see that I was worried about sending it away for work. They reassured me that they worked with an amazing artisan/goldsmith in Albany (when off-site work is required). They weren't kidding. Not only was turnaround prompt, the jewelrysmith was able to size up the ring (three sizes!) AND keep the inscription intact. Beautiful job, completely fair pricing. I was blown away, seriously. Today I went to them to inquire about setting a loose stone (after I made a very stupid useless stop to a Williamstown jewelry shop). Dilego's owner very patiently talked to me about all sorts of options and was incredibly savvy. She was delighted to see the stone and even went the extra mile in sending me home with an older in-store shop catalog (apologizing that the prices were no longer correct, but hoping that it would help me with ideas). No rush, no fuss. While I was chatting with her, another associate (maybe her daughter?) was very gently breaking the news to another customer that a ring of hers was not gold as she had thought, but rather was gold-plated. I was so touched by the gentle way they conveyed this to the customer, making sure she wasn't embarrassed by the news, and letting her know that this sort of thing can happen, and not to feel bad about it. So classy. So...yes: Consistently excellent interactions with the staff here. They're batting 1000. We're talking the kind of old-school customer service that makes you thank your lucky stars you share a community with this business. The Berkshires are full of bigger name jewelers and fancy-schmancy boutiques, but if you're looking for a warm, personal, no pressure experience (whether you're buying, fixing, resetting, resizing, getting sized, you name it), pay a visit to Dilego's and let them know what you're thinking.
