Their stuff is so cool and cheap ! For $300 bucks I got a side table, (oh when we opened the drawer it said V.W.Holzer Ft.Stockton TX. I remembered the Holzer Files and thought omg is it him. Possibly the best antiques anywhere and with a few years we were there February 2011. The items we bought including a big rock. It is former log. I'm in Alpine for the weekend, visiting some family. I was looking up places to shop when the Cheshire Cat Antiques came up, so I decided to give it a try since I had some time to kill. I will be returning :) they have such a wonderful collection of items, ranging from furniture, to tea cup sets, to vintage Rodeo posters. One could easily spent hours there. I found a cute vintage skirt and a pair of chandelier earrings at a great price! Only $20 for the set! What a gem! We got lost in this family-owned antique shop for a good hour or so. Russ and his family were so friendly and helpful. They have a real love for the area and shared some great tips on where to eat and drink both in Alpine and in Marfa. Spent the day in Alpine today with my boyfriend and let me tell you, I will definitely be coming back every time I'm in town! If I didn't live 10+ hours away I'd probably be in there every week. Russ was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about everything in this shop, and the other man and woman behind the counter (I didn't catch their names) were also very nice. I collect jewelry (mostly semi precious stones and Native American) and they had an amazing selection and the prices were extremely reasonable. Left with this one of a kind Mexican Fire Opal ring that I'm completely in love with (and I haven't stopped staring at it since!) On the way out Russ told us we could have two geodes to crack open when we get home from our trip! One of my favorite antique stores I've ever been to! read more

I was headed to Terlingua for the Meteor Shower in August and saw this shop and decided to check it out. I had to most wonderful time in this shop! They had everything! I spotted an Opal ring that I fell in love with. I decided not to purchase it at the time because it was a bit pricey for my budget at the time. Last week I contacted the shop to see if they still had the ring and they did!!!! I requested photos and they sent them right away via text. I decide to make the purchase. We had such a special experience here! The owner knows the history behind ever piece and it shows. Everything in there is quality and beautiful with a story to tell. The jewelry selection is unreal - especially the rings. This spot is worth going out of your way for if need be. I'll be back! This is a gem of a place! This antique home is filled with amazing finds! The owner's are so knowledgeable. I learned about UB coins, all kinds of rocks and minerals, and a necklace with fetishes cut from Mastadon tusks, WOW!!!!! My 7 year old daughter and I found great deals on china tea cups and estate jewelry. Russ even threw in geodes for free-due to her good behavior :)! We were passing through town and stopped here on a whim. From the outside I thought it would mostly be old signs, milk jugs, bottles, rocks and the like. Inside was a magical wonderland. It's one of the best antique shops I've visited in a while. To make it even better, the owners could not have been more helpful. Once they saw what I was looking for, one of them started walking around the store and finding similar items I may have missed. They were super kind and knowledgeable. Cheshire Cat Antiques was my first and favorite pit-stop in Alpine. I drove by the outside of the store and without think pulled my truck over, parked it and went inside. It's almost like it had a gravitational pull on me. Or a tractor beam, if you will. That being said the antiques and rock collection was out of this world. Sooooo many cool things to look at and buy. Found a cool rug within five minutes of being there that I purchased. The employees were beyond friendly. Greeted me when I walked in and made me feel super welcome. My wife and I stopped into Alpine on our way to Marfa and found this little gem of a shop. The store sits nestled in an eclectic mix of rare minerals and unique finds, and that's just in the front patio! After perusing the carefully organized rooms filled with everything from local crystal-grown art to Civil War era cutlasses to home decor, we chatted with the Quietts, Russ and his mom, the owners. I haven't met any antiquer as knowledgeable, eager to share, and enthusiastic as these two. Russ pointed us to places in town to visit, and gave us insider info on how to shop! A gem, truly. I was so thrilled the first time I stumbled across Cheshire Cat Antiques that I came back the next day for a second tour around its sweet wares. I'm actually getting nervous reporting this fantastic place because I don't want to give up my secret. Everything here is mine! The shop keepers are so darn friendly though, I am compelled to rustle up as much business for them as my little review can muster. If you would like an in depth idea of why this place is fantastic, read on. If you don't have the time, just go there already! If you like going to antique stores/estate sales and the like - you'll probably really like this place. It's well worth the visit. This shop had everything I look for in a must-visit antique shop: Varied, loved inventory? Check. On my first trip, I was surprised to find not only the classic west Texas fare (cowboy boots, cool rusty iron ware, turquoise jewelry galore, antique saddle once belonging to a swarthy named cowboy) but also a slew of awesome things that I would have not expected: a box of mixed silverware where I found a fork and spoon with my first initial engraved on the handle (an auspicious omen!), an impressive collection of minerals (whack-your-own geodes, peacock pyrite, beautiful locally mined jewelry-quality agate), lots of antique cast iron pieces. Reasonable prices? Check! So many times I go to an antique store and everything is priced out the wazoo for no apparent reason and I've left disheartened and empty handed. The Cheshire Cat has inventory for every budget. Whether you have $1 or $10,000 to drop, you bet you can find not only something beautiful and awesome to take home but I bet you'd also get a great background story to go with it because.. Extremely knowledgeable, forthcoming, and KIND operators? CHECK! The folks I met at the Cheshire Cat were extremely nice and were happy to answer all of my inane questions with gusto! Russ, the manager, was able to give me local geological history and some tips on breaking open my newly acquired geodes. His rapport with the local youth who came by was a wealth of knowledge by proxy (err.. eavesdropping. Sorry!) on the local events. He also gave some excellent recommendations for stops on my walking tour of Alpine which was very helpful since it was my first visit in town. I love antique shops and the Cheshire Cat and its manager Russ were a lovely surprise. I had such a great time chatting and perusing through their wares. My fork and spoon polished up ~beautifully~ (I know, but the *patina*, whatever.. I don't plan to be on Antiques Roadshow with my fork and spoon), I am so excited to smash my geodes open, and I definitely know where to visit next time I'm in Alpine. read more

You need to stop here during your stay or passing thru Alpine, Tx. I'm a witchy girl at heart so the outside decor immediately caught my attention with animal skulls, mounts, crystals, and old western antiques. Forget the visitor center across the street- The owner/fam was super friendly and helpful in suggesting other areas of town and nearby places to visit. The shop itself is mini rooms layered with wall to wall trinkets and antiques where you can spend a good chunk of your time gazing at everything but not spend a chunk of your paycheck. I bought a huge ram skull, a Mexican hand-painted el gato piece, and a giant crystal for 1/2 the price of what I would have paid in Houston for the same items.
