I have definitely had better OBGYNs. If I had known had to pay $40 specialist visit for IUD follow up I wouldn't have kept the appt.

This practice has been wonderful. Dr. Luecke and Dr. Penn are my preferred doctors, though they have all been warm and knowledgeable.

Herman, myself, but in a pinch I did see someone else (about 2 years ago, so I don't remember her name) and still felt comfortable.

The day after, my lower back hurt a LOT. This has never happened before and the pain lasted for 2 days. This also sounds weird but the very second the doctor went to my crotch during the pelvic exam (I could not see her because of the gown covering my legs), I could hear laughter erupt right outside the room. After the appointment when I went to check out, I made eye contact with 2 receptionists who were smirking at me in a way that would suggest that they knew something or were laughing at me specifically. I did a double-take because I was taken aback by these looks. They caught my eye again and avoided my gaze afterwards. This might seem like nothing but the combination of the well-timed laughter, the looks of malicious glee from the 2 receptionists, as well as an uncomfortable smirk from the doctor herself as she looked down at my body when escorting me out of the room (after pelvic exam and breast exam), leads me to believe that my privacy was deeply violated. I'm not sure what exactly happened but I feel extremely uncomfortable by my experience and I won't be coming back.

The rest of the office staff are lovey, too. And during a really difficult health experience I had recently, the office called and checked in with me outside of any visits just to see how I was doing--just a little touch of human compassion like that can really go a long way. Plus, the gowns they give you to wear during your exams at this office are real cotton gowns that can fully wrap around you instead of those cheap paper "gowns" some clinics give that are scratchy and don't cover anything. Little touches like that just makes coming to this office feel so much more dignified and cared for than some other places I've been.

I am truly shocked by the reviews of Chesapeake Women's Care.. I was recommended this practice by…read moreseveral neighbors in addition to my primary care physician. I wasn't sure who I wanted to go to, so I've seen several doctors for both OB and GYN. During my recent OB visits, I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Dr. Penn and Dr. Shuja. They are so thorough, answering all of my (many) questions during my first pregnancy and are always friendly and taking their time. I have not felt rushed by either of them at any time. I also have had Dr. Keith who I like as well. I don't love the hours, as I wish there were some longer hours to accommodate appointments outside of typical working hours but this is usually hard to find. My biggest complaint is that during COVID, they need to better communicate when their policy changes for visitors (during pregnancy appointments) as there have been times that my husband was allowed and he missed appointments or he took off work to come with me and then ended up not being allowed. It is essential that Chesapeake Women's Care finds a way to communicate this- through text, email, etc in appointment reminders with the policies constantly changing. The office staff is always friendly and helpful.

The receptionist was lovely and I'm sure embarrassed by the callous treatment I received. Another patient was shocked. My appointment was cancelled as I stood at the reception desk, after driving 40 minutes to Annapolis, because I have Medicare (with a secondary). The OM smugly just said we can't see you. No option to even see if I would private pay. The owners need to do something with her. She is a terrible representative to the practice. Also by the time I got home - my portal access had no record of my appointment today nor did I have the ability to reach out to Crystal to express my dismay -- coincidence? I think not. I am also concerned that I was never contacted to let me know that I was no longer welcome as a patient - it's not as if they didn't know I was turning Medicare eligible. Never heard of email? Automatic phone messages? I have never had a problem with the practitioners, and I understand that insurance and financial issues aren't their thing - but they should be concerned that their patients are being treated so disrespectively - without cause - that they are coming to Yelp to let future patients know. And if you are turning 65 before your next appointment - you aren't welcome at Chesapeake Women's Care. Make sure you read Penelope B's April 2025 and MM's May 2025 review too!

Some years I've gone more times if I've had particular issues. This year I showed up for my annual exam at approximately 4:15 PM. I thought my appointment was at 4:20 PM but in fact, it was at 4 PM. I was refused care and told that I needed to reschedule, because I was 5 minutes beyond the 10 minute rule... In other words, if you're 10 minutes late, you must reschedule. The waiting room was not packed and I offered to wait. I explained to the receptionist that this was the second reschedule for this annual exam. Still, she would not go ask the doctor and insisted that I reschedule. After 30 years of loyalty, this is a very frustrating treatment. So I will no longer be a patient at Women OB GYN. Traci Miller

I had a miscarriage this year and the way this practice handled it left the experience so much more…read moretraumatizing than it already was. I couldn't get consistent information from anyone, I wasn't allowed to see a doctor, and sometimes I couldn't even get someone to pick up the phone. If this is your first pregnancy, I would advise you go elsewhere. I knew something was wrong so I called the office to try and be seen sooner than the 10-week appointment I was scheduled for. They would not let me see a doctor before 10 weeks (only the NP), and told me they couldn't fit me in any sooner for an ultrasound. When you call, you can only talk to reception or the nurse on call - they never let you message or speak with an actual doctor. They're also on a rotation, so you aren't assigned to any one doctor, and the doctor on call will consult with the nurse, but they really aren't familiar with you at all. They said I was probably fine and should call back if the bleeding was accompanied with cramps. The bleeding was getting a lot worse so when I called again, a different doctor advised that I definitely shouldn't go to the ER because I would just get sick, but they still wouldn't let me come in to see a doctor...I was still told to just wait and see what happens. When cramps started happening, I called again and this time a different doctor was on call who told the nurse to refer me to a third party for an ultrasound and started tested my hcg levels. The hcg results came in over night, and the nurse told me someone would call me first thing to discuss. I saw the results and knew they weren't right, but I wanted to speak to a doctor to confirm. No one called. After an hour of the practice being open, I called and was on hold for an HOUR. Finally, the nurse picked up and told me very bluntly that it was not a viable pregnancy and that I was having a miscarriage and there's nothing I can do. I asked what I should do and whether I should go to the ultrasound later that day, and the nurse said "that's really up to you. I can see if the doctor can call you today if you want?" Obviously, yes. When the doctor calls me 20 minutes later (this is the first time I've ever spoken with a doctor here), she starts by saying "so what's going on?" As if she hadn't even read my chart. I explain the situation and that I'm having a miscarriage, per the nurse. The doctor proceeds to say "why would you say that? I don't think that's true, we don't know that based on these numbers. You should definitely go to the ultrasound. I don't know why the nurse would tell you that". I still was not able to make an appointment to see a doctor. There was a heartbeat at the ultrasound, but later that night I passed tissue and only when I sent a picture of the tissue did the office finally make an appointment for me on Monday. I had to wait all weekend, and then on Monday it was confirmed I had a miscarriage. Everyone at the practice just kept telling me how common a miscarriage is and how there's nothing you can do to prevent it so we just have to wait and see. That's fine, but I am a paying patient at the practice who deserves care. I'm bleeding and in pain, and no one would see me or talk to me. I understand there's maybe nothing you can do to stop it, but I have no idea what's going on and I have questions about what's happening to me that no one would take the time to answer. Because of the rotation of doctors, there is also no continuity of care. Maybe if you have a straightforward pregnancy this practice would be okay, but they made me feel so alone and uncared for.
