She might run errands, she might just have them "drive" ... the time behind the wheel and facing whatever situations arise is the important piece. Cheryl was so great! We live out of the area, but my daughter's behind the wheel DMV appt is at the Petaluma branch of the DMV. I contacted Cheryl to see if my daughter could do a one hour lesson prior to her appointment. It was during the COVID closures so DMV ended up canceling the appointment and kept Cheryl from being able to do any lessons. Well that did not stop her from calling me and going over some VERY helpful tips for driving around Petaluma for the test. She was so knowledgeable, patient and kind. Everyone uses Cheryl so I assumed she must be great. Not so. When she returned my call, she assured me that despite what the DMV says, my son did not need his first lesson to drive us. This is illegal. After his first behind the wheel lesson, the instructor signs off on the permit which activated it. when I asked what she did in the first 2 hour lesson, she gave a route which included lots of traffic and driving 20 minutes on the freeway. My son has never driven a vehicle. When I suggested that driving fast on a freeway for a first time driver might be dangerous, she said that it would be easy with an unemotionally attached instructor not his parents. I pointed out that a first lesson should be about learning how a vehicle moves and operates, and that driving fast and lots of traffic would be overwhelming. She wondered how they would learn if there was no traffic. I asked if there was a manual or class for what she does (teaching new drivers to drive). She did not seem to get it. I have serious concerns about this instructor taking never having driven children on the freeway during their first two hours of driving EVER. I do not recommend her. And feel her license should be revoked. Parents beware. read more

everyone talks about going to cheryl. everyone from certain schools and groups have been going to cheryl for years. how i wish i had stuck w my initial choice -- a longtime firm in a neighboring community. i decided on cheryl as she was cheaper. i don't feel that she TEACHES the teens to drive. she drives around with her students and they chat. from what i can tell in my own family and from what i hear from other families -- there isn't a lot of instruction. rules of the road. safety tips. actual how to...actual conversations about what can happen while driving -- how to respond, what to look out for, etc. i liked cheryl, she's very nice. but i wish i'd have spent my $$ elsewhere. i wish more people would review this company. truthfully, and not because/in response to my review. i know she has a lot of friends/fans but i'm strictly talking about DRIVING LESSONS here. read more

I used her last year and it is not worth it for your money. You are basically doing errands for her. She will take you to her office and offer you a drink while she goes through her missed messages. Then, you get to deliver some mail. This takes out time from the lesson you are paying for. All Good Drivers is better. The teachers will stay on task and pay attention when you drive and they are cheaper. read more

This is a great business. The owner is a very sweet lady, and very smart too. She told me everything I needed to know and made sure we were safe at all times. I got a lot of very good experience on the road. She is also very easy to hold a conversation with and keeps you engaged in your driving and makes it very fun. I took this driving class about 5 years ago. From what I remember is that it was 3 straight days of her nitpicking everything and calling me a lead foot, but she was very good and kind. At the end she buys you milk and cookies. However, be prepared to have a silent car ride on long straight roads. read more

Both of my daughter's had Cheryl. I can't say enough good things about what an inspiration she was to both girl's. Cheryl made driving not so scary, and was very positive in her correction. Going to the bakeries, and other stops helped make it a more personal experience which in returns made driving a natural thing to do!
