Toast made from really nice seeded bread!

I've been here a few times now for the mini veggie breakfast, the food is delicious and well presented! Always have to order 'mini' breakfast as the portion size for the normal breakfast is just too big for me. If there are two of you, you could probably share a normal breakfast between you. Tried the egg free carrot and walnut cake this time, it was really good! A lot of the time egg free cakes can be quite dry, but the sponge was really moist, yummy! Also free WiFi, whoo hoo!

I really enjoyed visiting this neighbourhood cafe when in Birmingham for the afternoon - words to describe it would probably have to be eclectic and cool with a European cafe culture aesthetic that makes it suitable for any time of the day. Myself and Dan G were catching up on some work so it was perfect to chat for a couple of hours and already by mid afternoon on a Friday it was getting full of people enjoying wine and beer and the weekend spirit. They do have a fantastic range of beers and also serve food - there's also a fairly decent sized bar upstairs which makes it much bigger than the smaller compact area downstairs. Overall a place for any time of the day, great fun.

Cute amazing tea layout!

Cherry Reds is one of Birmingham newest bar and coffee shop offerings in the City Centre. It marks the start of the rejuvenation of John Bright Street, a recently overlooked area round the corner from New Street Train Station. From it's almost tattoo inspired signage to it's shabby chic/mix and match interior, it's working really hard to create a trendy time warp atmosphere for it's clientele. I love what it's doing, as it's a great place to go from day to night with a cafe vibe in the day (with Wifi, food offerings and very reasonably priced tea and coffee) to a chilled out bar in the evenings. The menu offers brunch and breakfast, sandwiches to tasty favourites (including a multitude of vegetarian offerings) which all look really nice (I cannot confess to trying any yet). The Soft drink menu is really something to shout about, offering a massive range of adult nonalcoholic drinks perfectly suited to those driving or who just don't fancy another night on the booze. It's the second Cherry Red's in the City (the first being situated in bohemian Kings Heath), and it clearly is working hard to fill a gap in the market for Birmingham. The owners are currently still putting the finishing touches on the design of the bar (just yesterday they were putting up additional mirrors and quirky knick knacks around the place), but I think it'll become a very popular spot with the people of the City in no time at all.

Relaxed and laid back with good food and friendly service. I am struggling to find fault in Cherry Reds. Myself and a friend went for a late breakfast before heading shopping earlier today. I love the vibe of this place and the no nonsense approach the menu and restaurant has. The food and coffee is all a decent price and all tastes and looks lovely. I had the full English that was served with a mountain of brown bread, runny eggs, good quality bacon and a great sausage. One final thing that needs a mention is the music being played...whoever is picking the playlist here needs to send me a link to their Spotify. Perfect background music selections that are upbeat but not overpowering. A city centre location packed full of personality with local charm and great food....YES to Cherry Reds.

Part coffee shop, part eatery, and part brass taps, as most of Brum already knows, Cherry Reds is the city's cafe of cool. The city centre cafe is the second location for this most excellent coffee stop and bar. Cherry Reds is the type of place where you can start and end your day, opening at 8:30am and closing as late as 1am. The cafe offers breakfast all day as well as sandwiches and burgers, all served until 10pm. Alcohol is available starting at 10am, and a full bar is stocked with rotating draught, bottles, spirits, and wine. The cafe occupies a two story corner diagonally from Brewdog and is a good choice to start or end your Friday/Saturday night. Upstairs and downstairs feature comfortable couches or more traditional tables. When the place is especially packed they open up a bar upstairs for drinks. Fast and free WIFI is available for customers. Having recently moved to the UK and Birmingham, I decided on a recent visit to indulge in a full English breakfast, vegetarian style. That's the 'hearty veggie' for £6 with sausage from Linda McCartney Foods, grilled halloumi, a fried egg, beans, mushrooms, toast, and a hash brown. The portion was huge, and despite my best efforts (and having skipped a meal earlier), I could not finish the plate. The items were cooked perfectly, although I could have done with less of the halloumi, which was saltier than some varieties I've tried before. I also shared some 'American style' pancakes with my wife, which were some of the best I've had on the island. I washed it down with a cappuccino, prepared as expertly as one could hope. Since that first visit I've made it a point to try some of the fantastic brews on tap. Cherry Reds carries a standard list of draught beers and rotating guest taps and makes a point to balance traditional ales and lagers with some exceptional ciders. Cherry Reds also holds events upstairs regularly, so check fliers or the chalkboard for the latest happenings. With a substantial menu of food and drinks as well as amenities, Cherry Reds is the perfect city centre spot to grab a bite, meet up with some friends, or get work done.

This was my second visit to cherry reds, the first time was on a weekend which had a busy vibe but the early hours of the evening during a week day seemed like the perfect place to chill after work. Just the place for those chilly evenings. The interior has a cool retro vintage 70's feel with floral wallpaper and chandlers, low lighting with leather sofas and combined with a bar on the first and second floors reminiscent of an old mans pub. So what better than a cafe come pub the best of both worlds. I noticed clipper teas on the side and yummy cakes by the counter. This visit was for a one off jewellery workshop in the map room, a small back room on the second floor. I am told this space is free for booking a small get together or event. What fun, jewellery making in a pub/cafe, great atmosphere and crafty people together for a chit chat. Jewellery workshop by: Www.workingclasp.com

What a fantastic find this was. Thank you Yelp! We were looking for a place that serves breakfast all day and happened on Cherry Reds. The website is cute as a button and food pictured promising. As two Americans right off the ship, we were happily surprised with the selection and quality of the menu. There are a ton of vegetarian and vegan options to boot, including a very tasty veg sausage. I ordered a cappuccino, regular pancakes (stack of 3) with maple syrup, and a side of scrambled eggs and hash brown. The eggs and hash brown were cooked and seasoned to perfection. While the pancakes were thicker than traditional American fare, we absolutely loved them. The portion is huge. One order is plenty for two or three people to share. I love the coco powder sprinkled on top of the cappuccino. My husband ordered a traditional English breakfast combo with veg sausage. It included cherry tomatoes, pan fried cheese, veg sausages, buttered toast, and baked beans. We're both partial to the sweeter, thicker sauced beans (like Bush's Baked Beans), but overall enjoyed the plate. He tried to help me on the pancakes. We made a valiant effort but still had leftovers. The decor inside is wonderfully quaint. Lots of fun hodge-podge seating and art with soft lighting. It brings to mind a Parisian bistro. Wifi is free, which is an added perk and the location is very walkable. Nice clean restrooms that are handicap accessible. We'll be back for sure!

Falafel piled on a jacket potato? Sure!

I love, love, love Cherry Reds. It's a really comfortable, cosy place with a surprisingly large amount of seating across multiple levels, large windows looking onto John Bright street and a really nice room that can be reserved for private functions. The decor is funky and charming with lots of vintage-y knick-knacks and signs along the walls. It's a great spot to hang out with friends and family with something on the menu for everyone. They have so much (generously portioned) food and drink available, a really amazing brunch menu and very good coffee. I find their prices incredibly reasonable for a city centre establishment. For around £4 you can choose from an array of choices to be put into a sandwich, wrap, or piled on top of a large buttered jacket potato (I usually go for the falafel). Their breakfasts are massive and you can swap out any item for something else for free (I usually replace black pudding with fried halloumi... mmm...) Really well stocked bar, with interesting lagers and fruit beers on draught, and a massive selection of bottles that you might not find elsewhere.

Cherry Red is a great find in Birmingham and has nearly all of the essential elements needed to be an extraordinary cafe. First of all the staff are awesome. I would give the restaurant 5 stars if I had to purely base the review on staff attitude and service. They are all very nice and happy to please. The restaurant setup and atmosphere are also strong points. They have a variety of vintage furnishings and comfy armchairs that make your experience there feel warm and homelike. The music choices are also superb. Let's talk breakfast. The coffee is really good especially if you like your coffee strong and well roasted. I recommend the flat white. The porridge is quite nice as well - as are the bagel sandwiches. I have to say though that the pancakes are...just ok. I think that the pancake mix is sitting around pre-made too long so all of the bubbles go out and the get too thick. I also want to put in my own syrup. I recommend sticking with a flat white and a bagel or maybe some porridge and you will not leave unsatisfied. Moving on to lunch, if you come here for a burger...get the falafel burger. It is awesome. I got the more complicated one with cheese and left a better person for having tried it. For dessert, the cupcakes are also yummy but could be yummier. I think that some filling could do the trick. I donno there is just something missing. The beers! I don't ever seem to have time for a beer these days. Well not a calm sit down in a chill cafe kind of beer. I need noise and lots of people for my drinking sessions. But if I were to find time for a chill and relaxed kind of beer experience, I would come here. Their selection is really good with Belgian Trappist beers, American crafts, and even some British microbrews that you would not find in any old bar (Kernel for example). Whoever picks the beers, keep it up. If you guys can make some fluffier pancakes, I have another star with your name on it :) but besides this cafe is is definitely one of the best spots in Birmingham.

All set for my working day!

Birmingham has its fair share of independent cafés these days, which to a coffee lover like me, is the equivalent of heaven on earth! Cherry Reds is one of these offerings and there are actually two branches - one in King's Heath and one on Navigation Street in Birmingham city centre. Both venues have that living room feel, with old (or vintage if you like) mismatched furniture, floral wallpaper and subdued lighting. It's cosy and friendly. There's free wifi here for those of us who'd want it, though I couldn't spot any power outlets while trying to work downstairs. It could just be me being blind, but they're certainly not obvious. Much as I like Cherry Reds, I feel there are better offerings where coffee is concerned. Don't get me wrong, the coffee here is great value - you get a huge cappuccino for just £2 but as a coffee snob I like my coffee strong and full of flavour and I found their coffee a bit too milky for my tastes. They also don't serve things like V60 or chemex, which is a must for the coffee connoisseur. At night, this café turns into a full-on bar with specialist nights and there are several rooms upstairs you can rent out if you ever want to throw a private party. I have found Cherry Reds to get incredibly busy at the weekends and that combined with the higher price for drinks would not make it my personal choice for going out on a Saturday. However, if you like artisan beers and a busy, buzzing venue then it could be right up your street!

Cherry Reds was the perfect place for me to wind down after a difficult day. I was sad that I hadn't managed to make it here for breakfast, as I understand that they do a very good vegan breakfast, so I was glad to be able to pop in for a quick dinner. Their menu's great - there's plenty of choice for everyone, with the usual offerings of burgers, fish and chips, and such, but also a great deal of more creative dishes such as 'pork loin on chorizo and kale bubble & squeak with apple gravy' or 'honey & mustard salmon fillet on sweet potato, wilted spinach, red pepper & courgette'. They seem to have plenty of vegetables so that makes me happy, and they've very much ensured that us veggies/vegans have some options too. They also seem to have a flexible, accomodating approach, with a very comprehensive 'allergen menu' which highlights allergens in their dishes. I feel like Cherry Reds really care about their customers. I just wanted something very simple, so ordered a jacket potato, with homemade falafel, fresh salsa and houmous. It arrived quickly, and was delicious, just what I needed. And at £4.50, it was a fantastic bargain. Aside from all this cool food stuff, Cherry Reds have an amazing range of drinks. There's plenty of real ales, including lots of porters/stouts, fruit beers, wheat beers and sour beers. It really is an impressive drinks menu. There's plenty of spirits too, with a good choice of gins and rums. I had a double of William Chase (it had been one of those days), and I noticed a few gins on the bar that weren't on the menu - always a good sign. The decor is quirky and vintage, there was a nice atmosphere - busy and bustling without being boisterous or noisy, and I had a good window seat upstairs with plenty of people watching opportunity. I'd love to go back to Cherry Reds. I'd be happy coming to Birmingham more often, knowing that it's here, with plenty of food and drinks to keep me happy. In fact you could probably build a weekend away, centered on Cherry Reds, particularly if you're a beer/ale lover. You'd really only need to leave the pub to sleep!

Just had my meal and sitting here drinking tea waiting for my late friends. So here I am writing this review. This place is very homely, I feel like I can sit for hours reading book or surfing the net. I was walking about and thought I've always wanted to visit this place. Great reviews from everyone. Three of the places I want visit are right oposite each others (Brew Dog, Turtle Bay and Cherry Reds). One down, two to go. At the moment it's less noisy, been like this since I arrived. Couple of tables occupied and everyone is enjoying their meals. They say you know food is great when no one is talking, and I barely hear noise :). I have that calm feeling you get when you at home. Sitting on comfy leather couch by the window with a beautiful view of Mailbox straight through the window. People walking by and some opposite restaurants having drinks outside. I just had American Style Pancakes with scrambled eggs and a bowl of fresh fruits. The pancakes were the best I've had in a long time. I'm a fan and that makes me want try more of what they offer. Ofcourse I'm sitting here so full ready to blow up. But I can say I'm definately coming back soon. The staff are lovely and polite. Music playing (guessing it's radio or mixtape) and the volume is perfect. There's cupcakes at the front looking delicious, and I'll be back for them next time.

Cosy:)

I could have sworn I'd reviewed this before...anyway, I popped in today for a Christmas market, where they had used all their available space upstairs for stalls and Christmas related workshops, as well as selling tea and cake. They also hold an event once a month called BrumFu, watching Kung Fu movies on a Sunday afternoon and it's free! Downstairs in the main bar area, it is made to feel warm and cosy by the soft furnishings. It almost seems like you are sat in a living room rather that a pub. I reckon it's a good place for a Sunday afternoon drink:)

The Craven Arms was built for Holder's Brewery at the dawn of the twentieth century. Departing from the Victorian red brick and terra cotta style that is so prevalent in Brum, the exterior of The Craven Arms is adorned with lovely blue and gold tiles, making it one of the more colourful pubs in city centre. Inside, the tile and brick switches over to a traditional 'old man' pub style with wood, carpeting, and dark wood chairs and stools. From the outside, the pub belies the tight quarters inside. The pub makes great use of the space though, and the intimacy and cosiness creates a true neighbourhood feel. Once you grab a stool, be prepared for one of the best craft brew and real ale selections in the entirety of greater Birmingham. Black Country Ales is tied to the Craven Arms, and aside from their traditional golden, bitter, and brown, you'll find more real ales, some IPAs hopped to the max, and fun beers like a red hot chili beer. Hard to find bottled beers and cider in the fridge complete the impressive selections. The pub has no kitchen, but they serve up cheese baps (for £1) and allow you to bring in any outside food and will even provide a fork and knife for you. For the serious beer drinker, you can join their beer club and earn your way up toward the '100 club', tasting all kinds of brews along the way. However, what we got was cheaply dressed mannequins, t-shirts and waistcoats, oddly placed graffiti, a very run of the mill bar and the weirdest karaoke selection I think I've ever experienced (good on the woman singing Nightwish- 13 year old me would have been very happy, not perfectly executed though, shall we say). It all felt a bit *too* local, which I expect is amazing if you are, mind, and it seemed weird to me that the "speakeasy" behind the big bookshelf was closed on a Saturday night on a bank holiday weekend? It entirely feel like they've simply dibsed a name and tried to cash in on the popularity of the series, with the minimum effort that they could manage. I therefore had to give this place a try before I left - especially being a fan of The Peaky Blinders. I had passed by this place a few times when it was known as Confessions and it never really enticed me in. So, this time I was more hopeful! Stepping through the door your attention is drawn to the friendly looking bar tender dressed in (roughly) Peaky Blinder style hat. The next thing I noticed was a mannequin also dressed (roughly) Peaky Blinder style. Now for some the mannequins could be considered bizarre, I however am from a small town which considers one of its prime tourist attractions to be a shop decorated with very bizarre looking mannequins! There are a few more of these mannequins type things around the place adorned with a flat cap, and accompanied by instructions not to touch and that offenders will be instructed to leave! The bar area itself is one average size room, it was relatively clean and populated by older gentlemen of varying mental capacity. There was at least one sat alone having a full conversation with himself. The bar itself had nothing special to offer, just the usual bulk items, Carling, Strongbow (original and forest fruits) and Guinness. A simple selection of bottles were stocked in the fridges, the best of which seemed to be bottles of Magners. As for the "Peaky Blinder" theme. Well, I was pretty disappointed. This clearly just an attempt to cash in on the show, with very little actual connection. A few cap clad mannequin's and few pictures on the wall which seem to be screen grabs from the show. So much more could be made of the theme which would no doubt attract loyal fans. This place just doesn't cut it as a themed venue. Its an OK pub but that's about all it is.

I'm always searching for more melt in your mouth pillowy gnocchi, but this was a solid representation of standard gnocchi. The gnocchi was served in a creamy tomato vodka sauce and topped with fresh local mozzarella and a garnish of greens. The portion was very filling and well worth the price. The tempranillo was wonderfully full-bodied with a lovely balance of fruitiness and spice. I like that Old Joint Stock offers wine in small and large glasses or by the bottle. I chose the large glass, which is plenty to accompany dinner and dessert, if you somehow have room for dessert. The dessert menu looked amazing - I'm definitely going back to try something. The choices were Beef, Chicken, Pork, or Vegan, and I chose the pork. The serving came with vegetables a pudding, and covered in a proper gravey. it was cooked well and there was more than enough. I did enjoy my first english sunday supper and would recommend this place for someone looking for a good meal at a reasonable price.

I only have fond memories about previous visits to "The Sun On The Hill", but it's just not one of…read morethose places I visit very regularly. During a catch up over cocktails with Elite Adam S last night, he mentioned that this venue had received a bit of a makeover recently. As it was just over the road from Bodega (the chosen Cocktail venue for the evening), we decided to pay the cheque and wander on over to check it out. First thing to note, it's not that different. You're not going to wander in and be astonished in a "changing rooms" stylee, but it does look smarter. I love the renewed signage on the door and the little design touches in this smart City pub. It's been a while since I had visited, but I did notice that they seemed to have more cask ale on offer than I remembered them having. I went for a pint of "New World" whilst Adam had a glass of the ole faithful "Mad Goose" (with Purity being a fairly local brewery an' all). I do love the mixed seating here. We sat on a table with high stools, but there were comfy booths in the main bar, a sofa area near the door, bar stools and further tables up a level on the mezzanine. It would make a great venue as a "pre-club" stop, a drink with friends, a casual date or even just a swift afterwork pint! Now, I didn't try the food here but I noticed the menu has been updated (as per The Sun At The Station - http://www.yelp.co.uk/biz/the-station-birmingham). They are also offering a "Half Price Food On Mondays" offer until the end of October, so I will try and pop in and catch that to give a more round review of the venue. This is a smart city pub, with a bit of a "younger" and "funkier" feel to it than many of it's nearest neighbours. It plays a good selection of music and has a welcoming and friendly vibe. If you haven't popped in before, make a date to grab a pint with a friend and check out this cool venue.
