As I was about to take my tajin and leave, I saw a man come in and pick up two large grocery bags of food. I asked the owner if she sold food as well, she did, of course. The man was kind enough to open his boxes of food and show us what he ordered. By the time he was closing the boxes to leave, we were drooling. Now, although, the owner doesn't have a menu, she can whip up just about anything Mexican dish you ask for. Between my boyfriend and I, we ordered a tamal de rajas, a tamal dulce, a quesadilla de chicharrones, and torta de chorizo. The tamal de rajas was flavorful yet was surprising because it wasn't nearly as spicy as the other Mexican tamales I've had (which is a nice change if you want the flavor without the burn!). The first tamal dulce with raisins was my first ever, I normally eat the tamales de elote, however, I loved it! Not too sweet, moist, and dyed a pretty pink (so you can tell them apart from the tamales de rajas). The quesadilla de chicharrones is a classic and favorite of my boyfriend's dad, with spicy pork rinds and cheese stuffed inside a homemade tortilla! It's an artery clogger so you can probably only have it twice a year. Lastly the torta de chorizo my boyfriend devoured before I had even finished half of my quesadilla. The bite that I did get to taste was literally finger licking good! My boyfriend is Mexican, and whenever we visit his mother we can't wait to eat her food. Cuernavaca brought his mother's kitchen to us. A great place for hole-in-the-wall authentic Mexican takeout, we will be back to sample more of Cuernavaca's "menu."
