Upon my…read morearrival, I was greeted in the lobby by a tall, sweaty man with a mustache who seemed rather uptight and on edge. He was very nice and accommodating but quite distracted. While checking me in, he briefly darted into the back office and whispered to someone in a hushed tone something that sounded like "high-class guest" but I couldn't hear the rest. My bags were taken up by a kind Spanish guy who didn't speak much English, the concierge man was very strict with him and tried his best at speaking Spanish. The bell man only understood what to do when the tall guy ran up and down the stairs repeatedly shouting, "BAGS. UP. ROOM. EL BAGO- UP- EL ROOMO." The rooms are a bit old fashioned and smell kinda weird but you adjust to it. What I didn't adjust to was the sound of the concierge man yelling and running up and down the halls. Look out for this guy if you stay here. I swear, he's so uptight that if you stuck a lump of coal up his butt in two weeks you'd have a diamond. His wife, however, is very nice and really much more accommodating than the others. She helped me locate the dining room at breakfast time, which was a completely different story. I woke up on my first morning there and went downstairs expecting a peaceful, quiet breakfast. Oh my god I was so wrong. First off, the Spanish bell man was in charge of making breakfast since this place is so understaffed. I'm guessing the food orders got lost in translation because it was 9 am and this guys serving steaks with mashed potatoes. He's running out of the kitchen putting out plates of food so fast, he doesn't stop to hear people asking for eggs and coffee. The final plates are brought out and all the guests are utterly confused. The bell man stands in the middle of the room just as the concierge man walks in, he stands there smiling as if to say, "look what I did!'' Within three seconds, the concierge has the bellman in the kitchen and all I hear is shouting and dishes started being thrown throughout the room. Needless to say, I got the hell out of there by that afternoon. If you decide to stay here, all I can tell you is this: get ready for a wild ride.

But from the moment I arrived I was treated with disrespect and discourtesy. When I arrived I was left waiting at the desk for several minutes while the married couple that ran the hotel bickered over who was going to check me in. After checking in I was subjected to more yelling as the owner was incapable of carrying my baggage himself and continued to scream for some poor bloke named Manuel. When the poor man came running the screaming only got worse because he barely spoke English but the owner thought yelling at him would make it clearer. I offered several times to carry my own baggage but the owner physically took the luggage out of my hand. I tried leaving at that point but he pushed me up the stairs into my room. I left the next day. It was a very aggressive atmosphere and I would avoid this hotel at any cost. Trust me your car would be more comfortable, it certainly was for me.

First of all don't be fooled by the photo above, the place is right beside a busy main road, so no chance of opening a window without loads of noise, and with no aircon that's an issue. Next up the jacuzzi didn't actually work which changed it from a romantic getaway to a very expensive seaside b&b. Finally breakfast is charged at exorbitant prices: we ended up paying around £30 for a couple of croissants and a slice of toast, on top of £150 for a room. I expect that in a top London hotel, not a Devon village that is not even that close to the beach (10 minute drive) One star, for taking the mickey.
