I had a Watermelon Lemonade Riffresher, chicken tenders and fries. It was an excellent venue for us to hear from author Kamala Harris to talk about her new book, 107 Days. She was delivering a message on her short road to the presidential campaign and the state of affairs today that have many U. S. Citizens feeling emotionally hijacked....but I digress. This was a great opportunity to experience in such a beautiful venue. It truly reminded me of a more intimate Fox Theatre.

Ushered to my seat and it's such a beautiful venue I spent time marveling at the theatre and architecture. There's really not a bad seat in the house. Only issue is in the main floor people stand up which blocks the view of those sitting. Some aren't physically able to stand for long periods of time and I think that contributed to me not going there. The acoustics are great, but this was a live band there was a sound issue with the opening act and again near the end of the show. You couldn't make out the words for the opening act and then everything went out during the main set. Artist Jill Scott thanked us for our patience and kept the show going. All in all it was nice not to see people recording and taking pictures. I'm sure that helps the artist stay focused and it showed we can live without our phone's! I enjoyed the concert but next time will sit in the Mezzanine to have a full view of the stage.

It has been under construction for years tearing up the carpet installing new plumbing and trying to make everything back to normal I believe at one point they had to file chapter 7 and it was taken over by different owner but if you still check the website today they are still doing their hardcore heavy metal rock bands and tickets start around twenty bucks. So if you have a heart and the liking for heavy metal definitely check their website out and see if they have your favorite band playing. I've even heard at one point Snoop Dogg Tupac and Outkast have even played at this location this definitely is a historical marker in Detroit that is came along way. For those boat lovers, they can even dock on the Detroit River to enjoy the concert from the rear from the comfort of their boats. Many entertainers will go to the back of the stage and acknowledge the boaters. Tip of the day: I suggest you take seat cushions for comfort and ladies leave the large purses at home to not be turned away at the entry gate.

The acoustics are impressive for a smaller venue. There are plenty of spots to stand and adjust the volume to your comfort level. I don't typically wear earplugs, but given the size of the space and the quality of the sound, it's worth considering. Everything is GA, so you can get as close--or as far--as you'd like. Bathrooms are clean and conveniently located near the front door. Ticket prices are very fair. I wasn't able to find a way to skip the service fee with buying at the venue box office, so I ended up purchasing through their online system. Even with the fee, it's still cheaper than most concerts you'll see.

Our first experience with music Hall Performing Arts Center. What a delight…read more Downtown Detroit during the holidays is magical. The Music Hall is a big part of that magic. We arrived early for our Nutcracker performance in a Saturday evening and had no problems parking in the lot adjacent to the venue. Parking was $20 which was a good price for the area. Other lots were charging. $20-$30. We felt our car was safe and attended to. We then entered the Hall early and were allowed to walk around with few visitors. What a treat. The architecture is beautiful with so many details to view. There was a jazz lounge which looked like a nice place to hang out and socialize before a performance. The bathrooms were spotless. We then walked around the downtown and took in all the holiday lights. Truly beautiful. The downtown area is vibrant, busy and feels very safe to explore on foot. Our seats, center mezzanine, were perfect. The attendants were helpful. The carpets and chairs were clean. Our seats were comfortable. The auditorium felt intimate and cozy though big enough to accommodate a good number of people. I would have been pleased with any seat in the house. We loved the State Ballet of Ukraine's rendition of the Nutcracker. Perfect night and experience to begin the holidays.
