Chef Lee is a gem restaurant that I really enjoyed. Ambiance is really nice with a bit more upscale, finer dining feel. Service was good and very friendly. Food quality and quantity was very good, especially for the price. I ordered two different chicken dishes and Chef Lee serves nice chicken chunks that are higher quality than many Chinese restaurants I have tried. While quantity and quality were very high I thought the food a little bit bland for my liking and would have liked more spice. One my second try I ordered extra spicy which the chef accommodated and it was just right! Garlic chicken is amazing. Overall a very nice dining experience, especially for dine-in, and I would not hesitate to recommend it to you. Happy eating!! read more

Love Chef Lee! I have been coming here for years and have always enjoyed every dish I have tried. My go to's are their shrimp fried rice and chicken and broccoli. I have had the pepper steak, General Tso's chicken, chicken with mixed vegetables and sweet and sour chicken over the years and all were delicious as well. read more

A surprisingly good Chinese restaurant in the middle of Goochland. Who would've thought? But seriously, other than the fact that they change chefs, and therefore recipes, a little too often for my liking, I definitely would recommend eating here. They also have a Thai menu. My only complaint would be that other than staffing issues preventing them from having a traditional sit down service, they do not offer fried wontons. They instead do crab Rangoon which is not to my liking. If the owners are reading this, introduce fried wontons to your menu and I will change my review to five stars lol read more

I usually go to Chens in the west end so it was hard not to compare the two. I love me some Chens because of the quality of the meat. Chef Lee's chicken and broccoli definitely lacked it. The chicken was tough with an undesirable texture. It tasted good though, so if you're not a texture person you'll probably like it. The sweet and sour chicken was whole white meat chunks that I enjoyed, but it was a little over fried. The fried rice that comes with the meals was really good! Overall this place was ok. I might come back if I'm really craving Chinese but I definitely still would prefer to drive a little farther and get Chens. read more

I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Chef Lee on Sunday, May 8th, 2016. I play a live action role playing game called Dystopian Rising, and the particular branch I play at holds events in/near Goochland. So, after a long, 36-hr game weekend it's great to be able to have a decent sit-down meal. Unfortunately, there's not much in Goochland. There's a pretty basic pizza place, a Hardee's, another chinese place, and Chef Lee, and that's about it. Fortunately, Chef Lee is a sit-down restaurant with table service and very comfortable chairs! The food at Chef Lee is great, and I don't say that because I am starving when I go, either. Really, the food is flavorful, presented well and is decently portioned. My favorite here is the General Tso's chicken... Their sauce is a little different from the average Chinese-American place, and it's in a good way. The staff here is easy to work with when you have a lot of people and need separate checks, and seating is pretty much instant on a Sunday afternoon around 3. Prices are also great, but I might be speaking as a person from a place that simply is more expensive. Overall, Chef Lee is great, and I will continue to go there after DR games. read more

The best Chinese restaurant in Goochland! Well, OK, probably the only one in the county. Even if it had a ton of competition, it would still be a good place to go. It is a family staple with us. We frequent their restaurant to either eat in or take out. The restaurant has a great asian decor. The dining is on the other side of a glass "wall" from the bar with both a lower seating area and a higher seating area. The restaurant itself is quite clean and the wait staff is always very attentive. The Chinese food is always good. Never had a bad meal or a meal cut with too much filler. We love the dumplings, the Crispy Honey Twins (shrimp & chicken in a honey sauce), as well as the soups. We've had most everything and enjoyed it: Beef & Broccoli, Orange Chicken, General Tso's Chicken, Mushu Pork - you get it...all the staples you expect with a Chinese restaurant. They also have very fast take out if you wish to dine on the run. read more

We used to enjoy eating at Chef Lee in Goochland but had a horrible surprise this evening. We brought a guest and was told we must order like it was "take out," then we could sit in a booth to eat the food--very weird. It was like eating a picnic dinner at a restaurant. Paper plates, plastic utensils, etc. Chinese tea was served in a Styrofoam cup. The sweet and sour chicken only had green peppers, no onion or carrots or pineapple. This will be our last time at Chef Lee. Very sad because Goochland does not have many decent restaurants. read more

I'm done! This place is hit or miss. Sometimes you get fresh looking and tasting food. Other times it tastes like it's been sitting and reheated in the back. The shrimp with mixed veggies was . Shrimp tasted old, sauce had a stale flavor. I don't know if they don't clean their pots, wok or pans or what. I've had to take carry out food back before to have it remade. When it was remade it was fresh and looked appealing. This should be the standard for all of their food. read more

My wife and I have been fans since Chef Lee opened a few years ago. The reason we keep going back is the combination of consistently good food and friendly service. In fact, we've eaten there often enough that we're greeted by name, even when we call for take-out. Even when we occasionally order items not listed on the menu, we're always accommodated with smiles. The very recent addition of a handful of Thai items to the menu intrigued us and we were not disappointed. Specifically, the Thai curry is a great combination of yellow curry and coconut and was good enough to order twice in one week. Prices are really pretty modest for the quality and quantity and I always have leftovers. I should note that their second restaurant at 208 & Kentucky Springs Road at Lake Anna is just as good as the original and both places do a decent lunch menu for around $7. read more

What an unlikely spot to find great Chinese...in a strip mall between a Food Lion and a Dollar General, lol. Among the best Chinese ever, and I have eaten in Chinatown San Francisco, New York City and Los Angeles. Right up there with PF Chang but lower prices. The only issue I had is with the green tea, which was very very weak. We had the Chicken/shrimp in honey sauce; the Steak/chicken/shrimp with veg.; and a couple other veg/chicken combos, all very good. The best steak I ever had in a chinese rest. I NEVER rate restaurants because I feel everyone can have an "off " moment and usually I am not a picky eater. (insert the BUT moment here)...But, this food was soo awful, I had to waste 2 minutes of my time to write about it... The spring rolls were sour, as in spoiled, the shrimp fried rice tasted like dishwater, yes dishwater, the gravy for the egg foo young tasted like they used all the dishwater for the rice and resulted to mop water and the egg foo young, had peas and carrots in it which led me to believe they probably were getting old so "just put em in everything to keep from throwing them away!" I called them just to voice my concerns and to recommend they throw those spring rolls out. He said next time I come in he would make me extra spring rolls...um no thanks, I'm good! read more

Very good. The portions are huge. I happen to love Lo mein noodles. They have a awesome beef and asparagus dish over rice but I always ask for the noodles instead. Clean and roomy. Service is good also despite the language challenges. I hope to visit there again soon. read more

Being a native NYer has afforded me the coveted opportunity to sample some of the best Chinese food in the country. It is a most rare occasion that I find decent or even acceptable knockoffs, often which, pale in comparison to even the least desirable NY establishments. Until now. Chef Lee's gem in Goochland has single handedly restored my faith in honest and satisfying Asian cuisine. Apart from the incredibly high quality dishes delivered carefully to our eager table, the service was equally, if not more, impressive. Conscientious, courteous, and efficient are all amiable qualities I look for in waitstaff. However, on this occasion, I fear these paltry adjectives do not do our server the justice so deserved. She was beyond attentive and unreserved, obliging our tables' every whim. Perhaps what impressed me the most was not the continuous, careful attention paid to my semi-full drinking glass, nor the comfortable, non- threatening ordering process (which is often the most anxiety producing part of the meal for a diner with dietary restrictions) but the ingenious idea to side car the standard gravy for my shrimp egg foo young and instead bathe in the magnificent and unsuspecting brown sauce, which was more liquid gold, less asian sauce. When the meal came to an unavoidable close, we were left with a sense of satiated hunger and the memory of a most advantageous dining experience, one I sincerely hope to recreate prior to returning north. read more

The staff is always friendly and I'm never disappointed by the food. General Tso's Chicken is my favorite. As for appetizers, their crab rangoons are the best I've ever had! I wasn't too pleased with my takeout from chef Lee last night.the wonton soup had no flavor at all, the noodles tasted like they were a year old.I have eaten here before and was not impressed, but decided to give them another chance.never again! Fast, fresh, well prepared oriental dishes in pleasant surroundings. The service is swift and friendly. Pork chicken, beef, shrimp, scallop, lobster and vegetarian fare is offered for your dining pleasure. For quite some time they were the only game in town but for about a year now there has been competition from across the street. We have tried the competition and found we enjoy Chef Lee much, much more. I have NEVER had a bad meal here, lunch or dinner, eat in or take out. There is no better Chinese restaurant in central Virginia, bar none. My favorite meal begins with their delectable dumplings with delightful dipping sauce. I most often order Pork Egg Foo Young, three large patties fill a plate, I order only a small amount of sauce and ask for it on the side and I've never been disappointed. This is such a large meal I rarely have room for a desert but once in awhile they'll offer Chinese doughnuts gratis and I'll take them up on it. Twice cooked pork is another of my favorites. My wife enjoys their Lo-mien often. Although some of their dishes are marked as hot, the ones I've tried have never been over spiced and might even be characterized as somewhat on the mild side. read more

This restaurant came highly recommended by my husbands friend. We have enjoyed several meals here is why we continued to return, but the take out last night was horrible, all thick and congealed and the vegetables were all soft and mushy. The veggies should be crisp and who wants to put clumpy cornstarch in their month. Yuk!p We were very disappointed about this and in general because we thought wed found a great little spot. I just called them to let them know and Helen talked all over me yet never apologized, not good customer service. Wont be patronizing anymore.
