I'd actually give a 4.5 to this place, but between 4 and 5 stars, I'm way closer to the 5 stars because I'm really pleased with this place. My husband and I love the cupcakes from here! We have gone a few times just to buy cupcakes. I personally really like all of their cupcakes, maybe they have a little too much frosting but that's obviously a very easy-to-fix preference. I ordered my birthday cake from here and I loved the design!! My only complaint, and the reason why I'd knock off .5 stars, is that they went really light with the buttercream icing inside the cake (this is the icing I requested)... it was, not exaggerating, the thickness of a piece of paper. However, the outer icing was really thick. Anyway, it was delicious and everyone really loved the cake, so it was money well spent for sure! We picked this company based on the reviews. Unfortunately, we were extremely disappointed in our experience with Cheeky Monkey. I contacted Cheeky Monkey a month prior to my daughter's first birthday. I informed them that we were planning to have a Baby Yoda themed birthday party for her. Cheeky Monkey said that I would need to provide a cake topper, which I did. I sent a photo of the cake topper to Cheeky Monkey and paid for the cake. I assumed that they would make a cake to compliment the topper I purchased. Unfortunately, when I picked up the cake a day before my daughter's birthday, I was taken aback to find a "space themed cake" that completely clashed with the topper I purchased (see photos). I was clearly disappointed, however the person who made the cake was defensive and rude. She said "well look, there's the Death Star and Planet Hoth" as if this was supposed to convince me that this was the cake I asked for. It was not. She did reluctantly offer to "fix it" but at this point, I did not have time for them to fix their mistake as my daughter's birthday was the next day. I took the cake and left. Shortly after I left, the baker sent me an email "apologizing" for my disappointment, however also tried to make excuses for why the cake looked the way that it did. It wasn't a true apology, so I replied back and explained in detail why I was disappointed. Cheeky Monkey then offered me a partial refund which I did not pursue. I didn't need a refund. I was honestly more upset in the behavior/attitude of the staff than I was in the cake. We will not be using Cheeky Monkey again. read more

Such good king cake. I lived in Louisiana for 10 years and this king cake would hold its own even there. If you are familiar with Louisiana bakeries, this is reminiscent of Gambinos, but better. This place used to be a lot better. I got there shortly after it opened for the day, because I wanted a variety of cupcakes. They barely had anything ready, not much for specialty cakes. Was a lot of basic chocolate or white cake with buttercream. Pricey for the product. Their actual specialty cupcakes are good. Was disappointed in the filling, it was lacking. Summary: I was so eager to try this place after eating at Samurais! The buttercream is of the highest quality, soft, fluffy, light but stiff enough to hold the piping star texture- its not dense and crisco like at all. I could eat that stuff by the bowl! The only reason its 3 and not 4 or 5 stars is that even though we've been back 3 times to try their various and very unique flavors, besides the buttercream the cakes in the cupcakes themselves have not let a lasting impression. I always look for cakes that once you try them, you go home and the rest of the week you crave that taste and you can't wait for your next stop at that bakery. While the customer service and buttercream are 5 stars I don't get that lovin feelin! After paying $95 for my cake i was less than impressed. The rouching around the cake was sloppy and hurried. To add salt to the wound, the filling was so scant NONE could taste it. The place is hard to find. I drove by it twice, then had to turn on my navigation to locate it. (Not from the area). I walked in as they were opening, but there was someone else in front of me. There were two ladies behind the counter but neither seemed interested in assisting me or answering any questions. The selection was small with some varieties only having one or two cupcakes, which leads me to believe these were left overs. Made my selection and was on my way. The first one I tried was thin mint. NOT GOOD. It tasted like I ate Vick's vapor rub. The cupcake itself was moist and delicious. Just not the frosting. Next up was banana pudding. Just not good. The frosting tastes super sweet. Reminds me of a cheap grocery store cake. Tasted a bite of one more with the same result. Ended up trashing the rest. Wanted to give an update. I ordered a Birthday cake for my daughter and took to a family reunion. We ordered the same exact cake as last time, red velvet with cream cheese icing. I did order a 1/4 sheet cake this time instead of a round. It was twice if not 3x the cake in size, and the decorations were outstanding. The cake was fresh and everyone raved about it. The cake was $70 and we fed about 40 people with it. I don't understand why there was such a difference in the two. This time the cake was worth every penny it cost me. They did explain that they do not frost a cake with cream cheese icing, but rather only put it in between the layers, which I still don't understand, but at least they explained it to me this time rather than take my money and not tell me like the first order I had with them. read more

The owners are super nice and the store is very cute inside. I bought a 6 Inch marble cake with chocolate buttercream frosting for $25. I thought the cake was dry and the frosting was too sweet. I like my frosting smooth and this one has the sugar grit feel to it. This cake was not worth the price I paid. I wish it was better because I like to support family shops like this. Oh Simon and the Cheeky Monkey staff you are amazing! Where should I start?...Well, let's start the same way you eat one of their delicious baked goods, with your eyes. They've done an excellent job with the decor, it's colorful, tastefully decorated and extremely clean! I know, cleanliness is what you'd expect from a place preparing food but can you honestly say this is true everywhere you go? It has a very upscale classy feel but the staff is far from pretentious! You're greeted with a smile and they make you feel like part of their family. I'd be shocked if you left the door without a smile on your face. So now that you've feasted with your eyes good luck choosing just one of their amazing flavors of cupcakes! They've done an excellent job covering the full spectrum of flavors, from traditional red velvet to one of my favorites BUZZY BEAN! Jennifer made my 40th Birthday cake and people are still talking about it! I mean, just look at the pictures on FB, the work that comes out of this little bakery is top notch and very reasonably priced. I'm military and have been recently stationed in Vegas and DC, just returned from NYC and I'm here to tell you, Cheeky Monkey is on par with the biggest in the business. It's actually pretty amazing they've been open for such a short period of time and are already head and shoulders above every place I've experienced on the MS Gulf Coast. Also let me say this, what Cheeky Monkey does for the community is commendable! They're very involved in charitable work donating proceeds from their cupcake of month to a chosen charity. Cheeky Monkey doesn't make it about them, they make it about you, the way it should be! Now that I've gotten that off my chest let me leave you with this. Every since Ace of Cakes, Cupcake Challenge and all these other shows have become popular everyone thinks they're a professional. Trust me when I tell you Cheeky Monkey DOES NOT use Crisco in their butter cream and you'll never get a cupcake that's a couple days old. You must realize that most people are used to Betty Crocker that comes out of a box or icing from a can, so when they taste something made from scratch they don't know what they're eating. Give this place a try and if you don't like something or have a bad experience let them know, I'm sure they'd be more than willing to make it right. Bottom line, Cheeky Monkey Cake Company is a welcome addition to the MS Gulf Coast and I'm sure will be around for a long time! Give them a try! Went to this bakery this morning after reading about it in the local paper. It's cute and they have cupcakes as well as breakfast pastries on sale along with coffee, water and soda. I bought a half dozen cupcakes and brought them home. They seem a little chewy on top (maybe it's been a day or two since it was baked) but, the frosting was excellent. I'm going to give them a few weeks to 'mature' and then go back to see how it's going. read more

I stopped by this bakery one Saturday morning after taking my pets to their grooming appointment. After walking in, I thought it was cute with the monkey concept. I went to the counter and looked at all of the cupcake's my eyes were fulled with "Oh boy which one do want?" I did not know about any of the different flavors having not been there before. The lady behind the counter asked "Can I help you?" I said" I will take one of those, two of those", pointing to the different names. I said " I have never been here before" in which I received no explanation to the difference of the choices. Only,"how many do you want of each?" I took a dozen of the different flavors, and was shocked by the price when I went to pay $25 dollars plus tax for a dozen cupcakes? Of course I paid, but when I went home, I was very disappointed. The cake was very dry, not moist at all. Some of them tasted like they were baked about two days prior. Two of the cupcakes had about a dot of filling, which did not have very much flavor. I was expecting more filling. The icing was either too sweet or not sweet enough, not a good balance between the cake and icing, one having way too much almond favoring. More or less, these cupcakes were more like a first time beginner experimenting baking them, than a bakery that SPECIALIZES in baking them. To be honest, I have bought better in a grocery store bakery than this, and were far less cheaper. I will not be a returning customer. read more

The decor is adorable...of course, little monkeys all over...and the staff was really sweet. The cupcakes were not like what you see in most cupcake places...they were a standard size cake, like what you would make at home, not the extra-large you see at most cupcake places. However, the price was $2.25...a little less than other cupcake places I have been to. I was a little disappointed by the appearance of most of the cupcakes...some with thick, swirled frosting, some that had just been swiped with frosting (so they were flat...kinda like what mom used to make). I ordered the almond wedding cake. The frosting was good and both the cake and frosting had a nice almond flavor, but I was surprised that the cake was a little on the dry side. Bad? No. Outstanding? No. Good? Yes...but when I'm out paying for a dessert, I really expect more than good. Went there yesterday to see what the fuss was about. Ordered some cupcakes and a few sugar cookies and thought they were ok. What got me was the way people were walking in and giving them business just because of what they said about mississippi Governor phil bryant. Some of the people were trashing the hell out of him and the ladies behind the counter were all giddy like kids in agreement. I thought that was just really unprofessional. I was about to cancel my order because of that and spoke up about it but one of the ladies behind the counter got extremely rude with me, and since i paid my money already i decided it wasn't worth the hassle. I'm not very religious but i think this bakery is pretty two faced when it comes to the way they try to portray themselves. I'll never shop there again.
