The Thrillist called this one of the better places to eat in Newark Airport's Terminal A so I didn't check the Yelp reviews. My bad. The Thrillist said it's the airport's answer to Shake Shack. Huh? Answering what question? It's cheap. A burger with a giant patty is under $7. But it was sloppily made from mediocre ingredients. The burger meat was dense, overcooked, and a bit liver-y in flavor. Yellow cheese, a slice of tomato, some onions and lettuce. The chocolate shake was good. Creamy, rich, nicely chocolatey, like softened ice cream. The paper turtle-friendly straw doesn't really work; ask for a spoon (and so much for avoiding plastics). Disappointing. read more

I ordered the Classic Cheeburger minus the cheese and what a disappointment. This is a thicker burger patty like something you would make at home. It was a bit greasy which is to be expected from a joint like this. My burger had absolutely no (zero, zip, nada) flavor or taste. On a positive note the bun was excellent and not the cheap kind of bun you find at so many places. The veggie topping were excellent. Very crisp and fresh! Too bad the burger was so bland because this could have been a good burger. This is not a $6 burger and is something I will take a pass on the next time I fly through Newark. You have better options at the bigger sit down restaurants than this place! read more

Avery REALLY wanted to show me a Cheeburger Cheeburger, and we saw that there was one in Newark, so we went during our layover on our trip back to Richmond. We were so determined to eat here that we even came out of the terminal (it is located pre-security) to eat and went through security screening again afterward. We arrived at the eatery to find that it was an Express version. The menu was quite brief. I ordered the small burger and some fries. Avery really wanted a milkshake, but they were out for the day. I added sauteed mushrooms to my burger, which were yummy. The burger itself was fairly big, especially considering that it was the smallest option available. I would have preferred the bun toasted though. It was a decent burger, but nothing spectacular, and apparently, at a regular Cheeburger Cheeburger establishment, there are tons of customization options. The fries were tasty (I like when fries leave skin intact), although ketchup was not offered, so I had to ask for ketchup packets. I arrived here at EWR at around lunch time and had a bit of a layover so I decided to grab a bite. I wasn't hungry for the usual airport fare of cold, prepackaged sandwiches or pre-cooked and reheated pizza. I saw Cheeburger Cheeburger located in a small food court-type area and decided to try it. A lethargic woman took my order and asked the usual questions: "You want cheese on that?" "You want all toppin's?" "What kinda drink you want?" "Ketchup for the fries?" She handed me my drink, charged me and gave my order to an even less energetic employee who lowered some fries into the fryer, placed a pre-cooked burger and bun on the griddle and closed the lid. A few minutes later she called out my order, it was already bagged with napkins and ketchup packets and I was good to go. There were 2 high top tables closest to this restaurant in this crowded food court seating area that I'd have been happy to sit at, but both of them had buckets of dirty wash water on them, so I grabbed a seat over at a rail they had for multiple people to sit at. The burger and fries were both good and hit the spot, but nothing that would make me want to rush back to one of this burger chains' restaurants anytime soon. The burger, fries and drink with tax came to $8.86 which was reasonable, especially considering that restaurants in many airports really gouge on pricing since they know you're stuck there with few other options. read more

So Kalila and I got off the plane in the Newwark-Liberty Int'l Airport and were starving! Our layover was literally 5 seconds long and there were no meals served on any of the planes. First, decently priced meal I could find was at the Cheeburger Cheeburger Express, found in a little food court outside of security. Around it was a pizza spot, jamba juice, subway and other eateries. I ordered a cheeseburger, regular fries and a drink. To mine and Kalila's surprise this burger was SO DELICIOUS. I LOVE Buttermilk bread buns. Not 100% sure it was buttermilk, but it was a smooth top bun and I really enjoyed it. The cheese was all melted and the burger meat was seasoned well. It's hard to explain just how delicious the seasoning was. Along with the lettuce, tomato and onions, the burger was amazing and everything complimented each other. The crinkle cut fries were also really good. I was too shocked by how good my burger was to remember much anything else about them other than I liked them. Another reason why I was surprised that my burger turned out so well is because a customer before me was yelling at the employees for ketchup and causing a real scene. I felt bad for them and thought that with a beat-up self esteem, they may not give their work their best effort. I don't know what they were doing in that kitchen, but it worked out for the best. When I returned I was told that only chicken and fries were available as the patties were still cooking... what really struck me was disparity between the cheerful staff at Villa and the sour " you are annoying" treatment at Cheeburger. This was a decent burger for an airport. It doesn't look like much but it had good flavor, it had a better than average bun, and it includes a decent serving of veggies. It hit the spot when I walked off a plane crazy hungry and a smoothie didn't make a dent in me. read more

For starters, the menu is jacked in the sense that it doesn't tell you what comes on each burger. All you get to choose are the sizes, which are basically small, medium, and large. You then have to ask them what comes on it, so you can tell them what to take off. This makes for a very cumbersome conversation when ordering. My friend and I had to repeat our burger orders to the cashier three times before she felt like she had it down, and then a fourth time to the woman working the grill. And these were not complicated whatsoever. When our orders were finally complete, they got my friend's burger wrong and they forgot our drinks. We also had to go back and ask for condiments,we had already asked them to include. It would be so much simpler to start the burgers plain and allow the customers to build onto it, rather than starting with everything and working backwards, I'm just saying. Now, when it comes to the food, I'm split. The fries were actually quite good. However, the cheeseburger I had was really overcooked, dry and chewy. I had to smother it in ketchup just to keep it from getting stuck in my throat. I am shocked that a place billing itself as a destination for nothing but cheeseburgers could in fact, make such a poor tasting burger. Somebody needs to teach the cooks to go for a medium rare to solid medium rather than cooking the patties to more than well done. read more

This place is complete trash. They had another location on Staten Island New York & The wait time was horrendous especially when you have children. The food was par yet I would not go back again. We drove by and the place is closed. Hi. I went to Cheeburger at the airport today. It was not good. The staff was not the problem. They were attentive and for the most part efficient. The burgers are precooked to make your wait time less. All 4 of the burgers we got were way past well done such that no amount of cheese, mayo, mustard, ketchup could produce a tasty bite. Fries were good. A lot of money for a disappointment. Advice try something else in Terminal A. read more

Ehhhh. There are definitely better options in this food court. Currently sitting here eating my cheeseburger, fries and an Oreo milkshake and nothing really has any flavor, it's like eating fried air. The milkshake tastes like it was mixed with water instead of milk. I can just tell the meat on the burger is far from fresh. I thought it tasted better than this in the past, so maybe they're just inconsistent. Really 2.5 stars, but I have to add a half-star for surprisingly decent airport food. The menu isn't as expansive as that of a regular Cheeburger Cheeburger, hence the name. However, my burger was pretty good and they got my order 100% correct. The fries were good and the prices were relatively low (airport food can stink and cost a fortune). This used to be my favorite place at Newark airport. Now it is my least. I ordered 2 serious burgers with no onions. I got cold hamburgers with cold cheese loaded with onion. Arggh! I'm already through security so too late to take them back! The people who work here appear to be unmotivated and slow - you shouldn't have to wait 5 minutes for a cold hamburger when there is absolutely no one else they are serving. read more

I need to find a real location and not just one of these express locations. I had a bacon cheeseburger with no veggies and the basic burger was OK. It was piping hot but not just off the griddle hot. Kind of reheated hot. It was not juicy at all. The roll was fine and the fries were the star. Nice thin shoestrings. Nicely salted and plenty of them.
