Called Check mate cab yesterday for pickup at 9:45 am today. Unfortunately due to my flight delay and I got a text early at 7ish am in the morning, I managed to notified Checkmate cab right away. The dispatch lady was very friendly and had no issue changing the time. Probably she was able to look up my profile through my caller ID. I changed the time for 11 am pickup. The taxi driver showed up at 11:05 am so not bad. The taxi driver was very friendly. He had no issue finding the address I provided him because he used a GPS. Everything went well. Got to the airport on time. Note that you are better off calling Check mate cab than any other cab company in Kelowna. They have a lot more fleet and they will show up. I liked the fact that I could book in advance. I later found out that they have an app system that you can use to reserve the cab. If you are into wine tour. They also do wine tours. Not sure how that works and the details. But I only found out through waiting on hold yesterday for the dispatch lady to pick up. read more

Better off using Uber. Cheaper and faster service. If you want to be a driver, drive for Uber or Current Taxi. You will make way more money and you won't have to deal with the owners who treat their drivers like a crap. read more

Yesterday evening I called to book a cab for 7:00am for the airport. This morning when there was no cab by 7:05 I called the dispatch number to check. The woman on dispatch assured me that they were running a little behind but that my cab was nearly at my location (a lie, as it turns out). At 7:15 I called again but she wouldn't answer. Finally, desperate and worried that I'd miss my flight, I woke up my sister to get her to take me. While on the phone the cab showed up--at 7:24! The driver claimed he'd just been dispatched 5 minutes earlier. I grilled him as to how this had happened and it was pretty clearly negligence on the part of the dispatcher. I will be making sure all my friends and family are warned as to how absolutely unreliable this company is. read more

Ordered a cab for 5 and was told no problem. Showed up in a car and refused our 5th member. Forced us to call a second cab at full fare. A/C hardly worked and the drive was uncomfortably sweaty. read more

Horrible Company to work for. I was a car owner and was told who I could and couldn't hire especially when it came to certain race. They discriminate against those who work for them, some policies and procedures apply to some, not to others. They do not put any money back into the company and charge the car owners and drivers ridicules fees. It's people like this who own Checkmate, that give the industry a bad name. Monopolize for their own personal gain while taking advantage of those who drive and work for them. If it weren't for the amazing driver and car owners, these owners would have nothing! Cab arrived 5 minutes after they were called. Lady driver who was super friendly but not overbearing. Had lots of neat information about the town for first timers (us) and had excellent recommendations for us to explore on our day. I have to say that, as a former driver with Checkmate, that this is the WORST cab company that I have ever worked for. Very judgemental, racist, controlling management, the owner operators are equally demanding/controlling and only a few (like Noel Gill, owner of Car 4 and 11) are decent ? The dispatchers, in particularly, a guy named Wolfgang, is a real a hole? When I was there, the on line app software didn't work and people complained, complained, and complained. If you don't mind putting up with a lot of shit, then, please do apply and you will find out what a bunch of arrogant terrorists they are. One final comment. Checkmate Cab drivers are among the most addicted to cigarettes in the entire taxi industry. Therefore, if you are a non smoker or into a healthy lifestyle, be prepared to put up with second hand smoke in your car, as the drivers STINK of tabacco smoke and who needs that ? Posting for a family member who recently had a horrible experience with a particular employee of Checkmate Cabs: KELOWNIANS, DO NOT USE CHECKMATE CABS. Yesterday I called a cab to take me to the hospital for a pre-planned MRI and an emergency X-ray to check both for a pulmonary embolism but also Covid-19. I had symptoms of both. The driver who came was not wearing a mask. I offered him a new, sterile N95 mask in a sealed package. He would not accept it. In addition, he had parked so that the back door was directly over an 8" deep pothole in a construction area beside my apartment complex's driveway. I asked him to move the car so that I could get in the back door. He didn't want to move the car. He insisted I sit in the front of the car. In a weak moment of insanity and allowing myself to be overruled by a chauvinist telling me what to do, I rode in the front. His reason for wanting me there became obvious as he spewed racism, support for Trump, and reasons to believe coronavirus is a media-fueled myth fueled by politicians who need issues to campaign on, until I told him I planned to call his company and complain about the service if he didn't desist. He did desist, and I did call the company. All I can say about my failure to stand up for myself is, I couldn't walk without my walker as I was weak and shaky, I had a blinding headache, and I felt as though I could barely breathe. Thus the need for the trip. If I had waited for another cab I would have been late. I should have done so anyway. This man did himself a significant disservice. I was going to ask for his card so I could ask for him personally every time I take a $30 ride to the hospital, which is often. He is a superb driver. So smooth! This is important to a person in chronic pain! He said he used to drive limos. I am sure he did! I booked a cab for 3:15 in the morning, so I could get from Big White to the airport to catch at flight. I even confirmed the night before that we had the booking. Then at 3:05, the taxi driver calls us to tell us that he has just been given the job! Unbelievable! And of course he is 45 minutes away. Not his fault, of course, but the Cab Company had three day's notice to set this up, they knew it was important because I stressed that the flight was the only one out in order to make my connection, and still they did not set it up in advance.
