My wife has been coming to this place for several years, to do oil changes, couple of very light easy repairs. This time clearly the car was not performing well, once again she brought the car to this auto shop. She ended up spending almost 3 Thousand dollars, as soon as the car got back to the house, it was blowing black smoke from the exhaust. The owner admitted that they misdiagnosed the car, and fixed a bunch of other things that they thought would solve the problem. The problem was never solved, clearly because they did some other work. Even though they misdiagnosed the car, didn't solve the problem, they would not refund any money back. The owner simply said " I don't work for free, so I can't refund anything." Well if you can not do the job you promised you will, you should not be getting paid, it's that simple. They kept the money the car is still broken, 3k down the drain. Horrible service, and Horrible customer service, never going to this place again. Worst experience, especially after admitting that the issue was misdiagnosed. Unprofessional, Unreliable, Unethical people, do not go there.

I've been taking my BMW to Checkpoint Automotive since 2017 for oil changes and minor issues. When got a check engine light and exhaust was smoking, I brought the car again, since they claim to be experts, that is one of the biggest regrets. I was informed that the issue is related to a gasket, oil is leaking, failed leaking turbo line, valve cover and so on. A few days later the car was picked up, I was under the impression that it's is repaired, since the Checkpoint Automotive staff said it's good to go. The bill was over 2 thousand dollars, all paid for. As soon as the car was parked at home on the drive way, we noticed that the exhaust is smoking again. We realized that the issue was not resolved. After the weekend we took the car again Checkpoint Automotive and argued with them that the car is in the same condition, the oil light came on, that the oil is low, the engine oil had leaked out. At that point they admitted that they had diagnosed the problem incorrectly the first time around and at this point it's something else. We requested that either the car gets fixed or we get our money back since the problem was not addressed and the car needs repair. I was advised to sell the car and get a new car, and was informed that they can not refund me the money or, do any partial refund because all the parts and the labor cost money. I understand that but it's not my problem the staff is incompetent in their line of work and diagnosed the car wrongfully. Any business I go to, if the service is not delivered, the product is not what is described to be, or an issue not resolved nobody would be willing to pay, and any ethical company would refund the money charged or fix the issue. This is the first time in my life when I feel cheated out of my money, my car not repaired, and further service was refused, and I was brushed off with the advise to sell the car to someone. I do not recommend this business, it's a rip off. My issue was not resolved, my money is gone, I have to take my car to be repaired at a different auto shop, and it's been 2 weeks, I have not had a car for 2 weeks, and have been borrowing my family's car.

Thanks to steve this rare classic runs like a fine Swiss watch

I've lived in LA for over 16 years and have tried more auto shops than I can count--dealerships,…read morechains, and small independents--for everything from oil changes to major repairs. Larsen Automotive is the first place that made me stop looking. What sets Larsen apart is the rare combination of trust, fair pricing, and genuinely great service. They explain what's going on with your car in plain language, break down what's urgent versus what can wait, and never make you feel pressured. Their prices are very reasonable--especially compared to the dealerships I've used--and the quality of their work has been consistently excellent. You can tell this is a family business with a real legacy, not just a volume-driven operation. There's a welcoming, community feel when you walk in, and they clearly take pride in their reputation in Culver City and West LA. Both of my cars now only go to Larsen, and I recommend them to anyone who asks. If you're looking for a trustworthy, long-term shop instead of rolling the dice every time something goes wrong, this is the place.

This auto shop is truly one of a kind--and I say that sincerely. I've been a professional driver…read morefor over 15 years, which means I've owned and maintained a new vehicle every two to three years. Over that time, I've been to just about every auto body shop, general mechanic, and tire shop on the Westside and across greater Los Angeles. Some places offered okay service, others were unreliable or downright sketchy, and a few did good work but took way too long to return my car--even for simple jobs. As a driver, that downtime directly affects my income. Larsen Automotive was completely different. From the start, the staff treated me like family. Pricing was fair and transparent, communication was clear, and they kept me updated throughout the entire process. Most importantly, the turnaround time was excellent, which really matters when your vehicle is your livelihood. I could say more, but I'll keep it simple: A+ service A+ staff A+ pricing for the area A+ turnaround time Highly recommended. I will DEFINITELY be back.

I am extremely disappointed with my experience here. I brought my car in on October 6th 2025 for a…read morediagnostic knowing I needed an oil change and possibly had an oil leak. I paid $130 for what was supposed to be a full diagnostic.. a thorough report of issues found after inspection. Instead, I got a single vague paragraph on paper (quote 1) summarizing $2,000+ in repairs with no itemized breakdown. I asked for photos, and they showed me pictures of my engine filters (note you have to get pass air ducts for this). Later that day I requested an itemized quote and suddenly the total dropped by nearly $1,000. Some of the issues just disappeared from the quote. That was my first red flag. How does a "diagnosis" of the same car change that drastically within hours? What did I pay $130 for if not an accurate inspection and record of the car's condition? I decided to check things myself. I ordered my own cabin, engine, and oil filters online for around $35 total (they quoted $180). I replaced the cabin filter in five minutes. Then I went to replace the engine air filter and immediately saw two large tears in both air intake ducts ... the hoses that deliver air into the engine (pre-filter at least). But both were completely ripped. This was never mentioned in either diagnostic, quote 1 or 2 despite being obvious... I paid $130 for them to "inspect" my car, and they missed something anyone could see under the hood? That's not just sloppy... it's negligent. And since accessing the engine filter requires moving those ducts, they had to have seen it. So, recap: I paid $130 for a diagnostic that missed two gaping holes in the air intake ducts something front and center. If I hadn't checked, I'd still be driving with this glaring issue. It's hard not to wonder if I was brushed off because I'm a woman. Im not the type to take someone's word without checking. This felt either lazy or deliberately dishonest. Fast forward to October 11, I came back for what I assumed would be a simple oil change. I'd already paid $130 for the lacking diagnostic, I believe I was informed with my initial quote that would go towards other services. Nope. They charged another $160. But I didn't have the energy to argue and I was planning to bring up the ducts. No one mentioned them... not even when I asked if there were any other issues. So I walked outside opened the hood pointed at the ripped hose and asked "What's this, and why wasn't it in my diagnostic?" The man looks me dead in the eye and says, "Oh, that's not really a big deal... most people don't fix that." Excuse me? I paid for a diagnosis and someone decided this shouldn't be included. Make it make sense. After pressing, he admits it should be replaced... something I already knew since I'd ordered both ducts for $30 online. Then he gives me a verbal quote of $55. I ask him to print it (because I'm not doing he said she said). He writes it up adding "no labor charge" like he's doing me a favor. I already had both parts sitting in my car. When I got home, I realized the quote was for one side the one I'd pointed at. Both were torn. At this point, I've lost all trust in this location. They're not transparent, not thorough, and the way they handled my situation was insulting. I hoped I could trust them with my car, but instead I learned a hard lesson. I'll now personally verify every service I pay for. If you rely on shops for maintenance.. open your hood. Watch a few videos. Understand what's being done before paying the "convenience" premium. Many of these fixes are simple and inexpensive. TL;DR: - Paid $130 for a "diagnostic" that missed two huge air duct tears. - Received inconsistent quotes -- price dropped $1,000 after asking for details. - No transparency or accountability. - Dismissive attitude when confronted. - Trust broken. Would not return.
