I refuse to let big banks hold my paychecks hostage while they charge me overdraft fees, so I went back to the tried and true method of MoneyTree check cashing. While there is a very minimal flat rate fee per check, it's beyond worth it in my opinion. I never spend more than 3 minutes in line, they're able to immediately deposit money into my Chase bank account, and give me cash for whatever I don't want deposited. More specifically, at this location, I've primarily interacted with Miriam, who is AMAZING. She's personable, polite, understanding, and fast as F***! Like, yeah she's my favorite, but I don't have to do anything special to end up at her window, she's just so fast and efficient that she rips through that line so fast it would make Rick James proud. Oscar has been equally amazing. He's also fast, efficient, understanding, and goes above and beyond with the customer service he provides. I was here to claim a MoneyGram amount which, at the time, was already 3-4 months old. I was always busy and the amount was too big (~$400) for CVS or Albertsons to carry in their cash drawers. Finally I went online and looked up what other places did MoneyGram, and this location popped up. This place is super tiny but the two women who were working were nice and fast. There were around 3 people in front of me but I got my turn pretty quickly. The young lady who helped me was Gabby. I gave her my tracking number and all the info she needed but the system wouldn't let her cash the money out because it had been sitting in the system for too long. It was a busy day for them and people quickly built up behind me but Gabby went ahead and took her time to contact MoneyGram to figure out the problem, while the other lady helped the other customers. For some reason, she was hung up on by MoneyGram 3 times after placing her on a long hold each time but she was very patient; she kept dialing them back until the transaction was complete. They gave us a form to fill out and as I was filling it out the lady told us not to worry and that we could do the app on our phone... Okay. I didn't think much of it. I thought she'd ask more questions and input the answers or such but no. She explained to us that NF was trying to have their members use technology. I understand that, but some people would rather have the human help; otherwise, why even have loan officers? Tellers? etc. Anyway... we got approved right away but here's where the problem comes with the whole technology thing: she never asked essential questions like, who is this loan for? Who's in the loan/lease right now? Are there any changes, etc. They issued a draft, not a check, on my husband's name only and we needed with my name on it, or both our names. We didn't even need our names on the draft. I was so confused since I've worked for multiple credit unions and they all ask these questions plus they issue cashiers checks. They wouldn't change it. To top it off, they do not take care of sending the check or some DMV stuff. Again, why have employees in branch then? We had to go to another location and ask for the draft to be fixed but they refused. We went to cal coast since SDCCU doesn't do lease buy outs anymore and the service was much better and different! They processed everything in person, we asked question, they issue CCs and send them, they take care of all DMV paperwork, etc. Granted, NF approved us on the spot but the loan was useless to our needs. I was very disappointed as their rate was also much higher than our rate with CCCU and our experience. Maybe in the future we will give a second chance but for now we are okay with our credit cards only.
