I've had a Chase bank account in good standing for over a decade, but in summer of 2024 Chase started putting 14 day holds on every paycheck I deposited, despite the payroll checks having already cleared my work's bank account. I refuse to let big banks hold my paychecks hostage while they charge me overdraft fees, so I went back to the tried and true method of MoneyTree check cashing. While there is a very minimal flat rate fee per check, it's beyond worth it in my opinion. I never spend more than 3 minutes in line, they're able to immediately deposit money into my Chase bank account, and give me cash for whatever I don't want deposited. More specifically, at this location, I've primarily interacted with Miriam, who is AMAZING. She's personable, polite, understanding, and fast as F***! Like, yeah she's my favorite, but I don't have to do anything special to end up at her window, she's just so fast and efficient that she rips through that line so fast it would make Rick James proud. Oscar has been equally amazing. He's also fast, efficient, understanding, and goes above and beyond with the customer service he provides. Ana who works as a window teller or clerk is the worst in customer service. She is trying all her best to give customers a hard time to make the transaction as hard as possible. I once went there to complete a Western Union transaction but she refused to complete it and she gave me a hard time. I then went to another Money Gram location and they completed the transaction immediately without any difficulty or irrelevant questions. I brought I. Two checks that were from major known companies one being the city. I held onto them for a little so I wasn't tempted to use the money until I really needed it. Both were still well within the time allotted to cash them. But since I "held onto them" and didn't give a good enough reason why, they had to call and verify. One person answered and the other was closed due to Covid. So, they wouldn't cash it. Moneytree is a fairly painless borrowing experience with a lot of locations, easy to use website, and helpful staff on duty over the phone and in person. It's a very straight forward transaction which is always appreciated when a persons finances and credit are the focus of it. 4 stars because they are using an automated system that determines your credit worthyness, and for repeat users it relies heavily on internal transaction records. This would be fine except they have no way to manually adjust and update the borrower eligibility for a persons whose prior records contain a derogatory mark in error. I was eligible for only about half of the CA max. amount due to this once, and was told that to get the full amount again I just had to build more positive history with a few more 1/2 loans. read more

I have only been treated courteously by everyone here. I had a bit of an emergency a few months back and needed to do a wire. I had plenty of money in my bank account, but my bank told me that since part of the wire would use part of the sum of cash I had just deposited, they couldn't do it. (What?) Since when is cash not real and valid. I won't mention any names (thanks a bunch Chase - NOT) So I found Moneytree and the wire transaction fee was only $18 ! My bank would've charged $35 or more! The transaction was quick and done accurately. Once Chase messed up the exchange rate on funds I needed to wire to London. It came back rejected. Luckily, I was ahead of schedule, and a deadline so there was plenty of time to get the transaction through again...accurately. Again, I highly recommend this company. If it wasn't for Money Tree supporting me from the ages 22-24, I'd probably be living with my dad, Joe Joesten in Fallbrook or living in the hostel in OB with a bunch of European backpackers who haven't showered in recent memory. I'll only give it a maximum of three stars, because the concept of a cash-advance business is a bit sad and predatory. It's a depressing cycle that's very hard to escape from, especially if you have a fixed income. But I suppose it's better than defaulting on payments if you can manage to pick yourself out of the debt gutter. Compared to some of the other cash-advance places I checked out, Money Tree was far-and-away the most comfortable place in town. While other places were dark, dingy and seemingly fraudulent, Money Tree was very bright, clean and welcoming. The employees are very helpful and you get a real sense that your identity won't be stolen within two minutes of walking out the front door. If you need a quick $200 bucks and your credit cards are maxed-out, you should really see a financial planner who will slap you around a little bit. But in the case of an emergency where you need cash with the quickness, you should most definitely bark up their Tree. read more

I love to spend it and "lend" it to people I should know are never going to return it. But how do you really KNOW that until they don't give it back? Lots of ways, I'm sure, that I hope I learn. Point is, I've over extended myself on more than one occasion. Besides selling stuff, working a job for cash or tips or panhandling, where do you really get cash when you need it? You want to say the bank, but I mean cash you don't actually have. This joint. Herein lies the 5 star rating. This place is clean, accommodating and the employees always friendly. I always feel very safe here. Which is hard to do on El Cajon. Initially, I was upset that they would "only" ever give me $250. But then it's like I work full time at minimum wage, that's half my check. Thank goodness they only give me as much as I can pay back. Who does that these days? It's either nothing or something you can't afford. The payday loan process is easy and it's like a $35 mark up for every $200 you are loaned (read the fine print just in case. That's how much it is for me in 2014). I apply online (avoid the public shame of being denied) then pick it up in the store. Once I think I applied from the parking lot. Have more respect for yourself than that. I think the VERY first time I had to come in and provide proof of income, ID etc before I found out. So that was nerve racking. Doing this was something I looked into beforehand and actually waited for a time when it would have been great for me to have the money (and pay bills on time) but I didn't actually NEED it (I've paid bills late before). It's an advance, I have a job. But I do occasionally need something in between checks. This takes a lot of emotion out of it. I recommend if you are often in financial binds, to first see if you qualify before you're like getting kicked out of your place. If you give the money back within 24 hours you pay no interest (again, I would look into this before you sign up). Also, it gives you an idea of the process and how much you would actually qualify for. I hope you never need the services, but if you do, check it out here. They are transparent and chill. Came here while I was in town visiting my sister. WOW! I was blown away by the customer service. Everyone I spoke with was so polite and friendly, but the person I really want to thank is Eva. I didn't get to meet her as she left before I could get to the office, but over the phone she was amazing. Ive been a customer of Moneytree in North Park for many years. Ive utilzed most all of the services they provide and have never once had a problem or complaine with the service they provide. Each and everytime I come through the front door I am greeted with a hello from all the friendly professionals they have working there and have rarely ever found myself in line for more than a couple of minutes. The store at this location is extremely clean and always smells great, they should all be proud of the great services they provide. I have been a long term financial customer since 2009 and I have never had a problem until today with money tree and Crystal who is non-helpful whatsoever in making customers satisfied. When asked she said that this is for her first job it was apparent that she does not know how to do customer service and should not be working in the public.
