Five years ago, I was injured in a car-pedestrian accident as a 29-year-old postdoc at UC Berkeley. I was walking across the street in my residential neighborhood near campus, and one of the motorists at an all-way stop did not see me in the crosswalk. When the car turned into me, the front bumper made direct contact with my knee and threw me onto the road. I was shocked, confused, and in a lot of pain. Because I had never been in an accident and had no idea what to do, I limped away from the scene rather than going to a hospital or calling the police. Within hours, I was getting calls from the motorist's insurance company, and soon enough they were offering me money to resolve the situation. At that time I didn't know the full extent of my injuries, and felt that I needed legal representation. I had zero experience with finding or hiring lawyers, and frankly, the whole process (not to mention the potential expenses) was terrifying to me. In a professional capacity I find Robert Cheasty to be lacking. I have watched my friend's multiple calls go unreturned for weeks now. Robert finally made an appointment with my friend. I went along. Robert was not in the office at the appointed time. The receptionist kindly offered to call Robert's cell phone and did so. After leaving a message the two receptionists spent at least 10 minutes talking about cell phones, car phones and traffic. I do not know if it was for our benefit to give Robert an excuse or simply from uncomfortable embarrassment. When Robert did call into the office my friend spoke to him over the phone and I am of the opinion he never planned to be there. Whether that is true or not, it has definitely become clear that instead of being honest with my friend weeks ago, Robert has strung it out and did not even have the professionalism to appear for an appointment. He is a calm, well spoken person but he has shown that if a lawsuit is not going to be easy, that not only will he not take it on but he will act as though he will and waste your time.
