We reserved a 2025 blue jeep with one touch sky roof. Spendy, but we counted it as a way to fully enjoy the lush landscape around us. The one touch sky roof feature was absolutely fantastic. We could easily switch between buttoned up and fully open top as we ventured out between rain showers. I highly recommend this car rental option for being able to rent the exact vehicle you want, without having to guess your luck with the phrase "or similar". Cons: Being a unique car rental company, without long lines or disappointments to start your vacation, I will say it took a fair amount of trust to rely on the good word of the company that things would go as promised. There is zero in person contact at pick up or drop off. You pick up and drop off in a deserted parking lot away from the airport, closer to the cruise ships, using a lockbox. The uber ride airport to lot and reversed at the drop off was less than $40 total. We had one person get the car and pick up the others and all luggage. It was not a far distance, but not walkable. Lucky for us the rental was exactly as hoped for and we would repeat the experience if we are lucky enough to visit Kauai in the future. For those wondering why there are no recent (2025) reviews, I'll say there isn't an easy way to leave a review on their website right now.

There are not enough workers on the island so it's not their fault. Once we were assigned a car, it took another 40-45 minutes to come out even though people behind me were getting their cars before me. When we got the car, it was not very clean, luckily I had disinfectant wipes to wipe down the interior We found french fries on the floor. The outside was also not very clean. It looked like it went through the car wash but needed it again. I was embarassed to drive it around. Also, when we dropped off, there was no one to accept the car except one person who said we were good. She was trying her best to move all the cars into the lot. We always take a short video or take pictures for our own protection when renting, I thought it was great for both parties that Pineapple Express makes this a part of the simple process for the benefit of both parties. The vehicle was clean and comfortable. The beach umbrella & cooler backpack were much appreciated! The yummy pineapple & towels were a great surprise. You sign a waiver & agree not to go off roading or use dirt roads for beach access. I was a bit nervous about accidently ending up on a dirt road (I'm a very cautious person by nature) but using Google maps & satellite view, I was always able to find paved areas to park. In one case, we just hiked in a little further and that's always a bonus in paradise to me :) Their communication is so good, I'm sure if you have a question about a specific area before you head there - they can guide you on whether or not it's ok or offer an alternate plan. We had tracked in a bit of sand, so before returning the vehicle we shook out the weatherproof mats - which were so easy & handy! They were great and brought my husband back to our hotel vs. the airport as we were not quite ready to head home yet. From start to end our experience was amazing. They wanted proof of insurance which the standard car rental companies never ask me for. I submitted it and didn't hear back. They wanted a $150 deposit that most other car rental agencies never ask for. It was like pulling teeth to actually get the reservation put together. After submitting my insurance policy I literally heard nothing back. I was going to send another reminder "hey, I want to give you business!" email but at that point I was so downtrodden by the entire experience I just went with Alamo. Didn't regret it one bit. The pricing was maybe $100 more for a week's long rental but it was smooth, seamless, and efficient. No long lines since they had my data on file and I just went to the parking lot to pick my car. Hoping these guys create a smoother onboarding process. Way too many headaches and hoops to jump through to save a few bucks.

When I questioned how suspicious that sounded, the rep laughed and hung up on me. Called back and got a different rep who said the first one left no notes. I first spoke with Heidi about pricing and available cars. Every time I called, she told me to call back because the owner wasn't there. Apparently no one can book a rental unless the owner is present, which seems like a huge red flag for a rental business. After about my fifth phone call, Heidi told me the owner still wasn't back and that they "most likely" wouldn't have any cars available for my trip...which is still a month away. A few days later I called again, hoping to finally speak with the owner. Instead, I got Terry. I honestly don't know how she works in customer service. During the call she actually said things like, "Ugh," and, "I can't do this right now. Call back when the owner is here." I was completely shocked. Can't do what? Your job? Two days later, I finally reached the owner. I explained how unprofessional Terry had been, and he literally laughed and said, "Well, yeah. No worries, I'm back now." There was no apology or concern whatsoever. I also explained that Heidi had originally quoted me $420 for a week, then later said they probably wouldn't even have cars available. The owner laughed again and said, "No, we have cars." Then he informed me the rental would actually be $600 instead of the $420 I'd been quoted. After that conversation, I came here and read multiple reviews from customers who said they were quoted one price and charged significantly more when they picked up their rental. That was enough for me to decide to take my business elsewhere. Between the inconsistent pricing, lack of communication, rude customer service, and the owner's dismissive attitude, I wouldn't trust this company with my vacation or my money. I asked for leather seats since I have a condition where I have pain with sitting if the seats are not tilted upward and solid like a leather seat. There were only upholstery seats when I went outside to look so I came back inside to talk to Chiobhan. She went and found a leather seated car that had just been returned and said it'll take 15 minutes to clean which we were fine with. When the Mazda CX-50 car came out, we got in and took off but after about a mile or two, I was having pain because the seat was not very good and didn't tilt upward. So we turned around and went back in the parking lot and I was greeted by Alan and told him I'm having pain and I'm willing to upgrade for a better car. As I was heading back to the office, I saw a higher model Mazda CX-90 AWD and sat inside it and it was really nice and the leather seats were more firm and tilted back like I needed. I took a picture of the license plate and told them this is the one I wanted. They said no problem but I need to pay an upgrade for you and I said I'm happy to. Both Chiobhan and Alan we're super friendly and no nonsense and were quick to respond and take care of business with a high-level of customer service and in a very timely manner. I drove away very happy with how I was treated and with the car. Now I'm driving around with a beautiful and comfortable higher level Mazda SUV. I just need to remember next time to order a crossover or premium SUV.

Because of the wait they gave us a discount without even asking. Because it was thru Costco, they had to mail us a check. Gili, the manager, was fantastic about making sure the check was processed and put through. They were also able to put us into a nicer car, making our overall experience that much better on the island. Would gladly rent from them again and know I will be taken care of.
