Goodbye Home Depot, hello Cal Herbold's Nursery! After eight years in the high desert, I finally…read moregave it a try. It's much bigger and has more variety than it appears from the street, with costs being comparable. So nice to have a local nursery like the good ol' days. Went here for the first time today and after the rock guy asked if I needed help, he directed me indoors. Gal working register was kind enough to help me find edible plants for my sulcata tortoise. Including sod, woo hoo! Exactly what I needed. I will be flushing the plants and sod with diluted vinegar then water for a few days, but I know my boy Neptune will be thrilled when he sees them in his enclosure. Once done shopping, another guy hopped off his tractor to come help load the car. Now is that respect for your elders and great customer service or what? Thanks to all for your help. I will indeed be back!

The only "less positive" occurrence... This is the first place I reached out to a couple of weeks ago, I explained to the guy what I needed, instead of asking more questions to figure out what was necessary, he just said he didn't have it, and he referred me to HD or Lowe's, But none of the other stores have any reverse nuts. Anyway... the search is over.. no need to give less than 5-stars.. he got me out of jam! And I'm thankful for that.

After about 3 years of going here, I think it's time I review these guys. I've been to all the…read morehydro stores in the desert and was frequenting all of them in search of the best deals for whatever items I needed. Hydroponics is expensive in general, so penny pinching is a must, but I quickly realized Mo and Chris only charge a slight amount over invoice, on everything. I'm not left guessing if I can get a better deal here or there, it all just ends up being what's fair. Some of the other guys have memberships that afford "deep discounts" but it's disingenuous at best. I also don't feel like the other stores really care about their customers. When I come into this store, I'm always warmly welcomed and I'm pretty sure Mo remembered my name after 1 visit. I think I bought something small too, so that means he took time out of his day to remember me for nothing. On numerous occasions these guys have helped me out in other ways as well. Nothing I'll get into here because it's above and beyond what should be normal customer service and I don't want people trying to evoke this kind of thing from them. However, trust me when I say, if you're loyal to them, they will reciprocate double. One of the reasons I went other places was the selection, they didn't have too much from Heavy 16, however, they are able to order it pretty damn quick and have it on the counter for me without asking the minute I come chirping. Cheaper than the guys that supposedly carry this as a house brand. I'm not sure how that works, but I won't complain. All in all, this is a very friendly, knowledgable, and competitively priced place to go. You guys have my business for as long as I have a garden.

My sister has been chasing giant fiberglass chickens for several years. She was hoping to purchase…read moreone she'd seen in Acton, CA but it disappeared before she could price it. Then there had been one on top of a defunct restaurant in Vidal Junction, CA for a long time, but it was gone by the time we drove over there. Searching for "giant chickens" on the Internet, I mostly found images with no locations but finally under "giant fiberglass chickens" I found Main Street Collectors in Hesperia. Since we were en route from Joshua Tree to Los Angeles, it seemed might handy. Although we found the first Yelp review disconcerting, we decided to trek over there. The two fellows we found working there were polite and friendly and very knowledgeable about the manufacture and customization of fiberglass statues. They had even created the chickens displayed in Acton and Vidal Junction. They also had a nice selection of reasonably priced antiques so my sister bought a nice little poster with a red rooster on it, to tide her over till she can afford to invest in her very own giant chicken.
