I lived in the South Loop for 12 years, and Chicago for 20- so when this property came up with a reasonable amount of points for redemption for one evening, I took it. Upon checking in, Zach was helpful and friendly. He was a true professional, I noted the way he interacted with me and to be honest, I think he knew Asian customs, or at least official politeness. I was shocked, because you don't see that very often. The room was great. Even though it's near UIC, I didn't hear much noise, I got a late checkout but I didn't need it- and the property was on Ashland just south of 290, the party was on Ashland and Diversey- so it was a straight shot up and back. Usually I try to stay near River North bc my friends work there. But, I will absolutely consider this property in the future, especially if the redemptions are reasonable! Thanks to Zach and the team here for a great stay!

We had a great experience for our quick trip out for a concert at the United Center…read more When we checked in the staff was very much in touch with the local events happening as they asked if we were going to see a show at the United Center. She shared they had a shuttle that ran every 30 minutes (ending at 9:30p). It was perfect! And we didn't have to pay for an Uber nor walk in the heat. Just paid a tip to the driver. The front desk staff member also offered us water and toweled off the excess moisture before handing it to us! Nice touch and attention to detail. The hotel was neat and clean - not much for views, but that's ok since we spent less than 1 hour of waking time in the room. The temperature was perfect. The bathroom was appropriate stocked and tidy. Plenty of complimentary bath supplies. I don't like the scent of their products, but it's nice it's available if needed. Bed was comfy two pillow per side. Outlets were available more near the TV/desk area. The only outlet accessible next to bed, was the outlet through the alarm clock. Because of the knob on the clock, I amost couldn't plug in my Apple Power block...however, I was able to temporarily remove the nob from the clock, which I promptly put back after I unplugged my device. Couch was ok. Kind of scratch material and wasn't comfortable to sit on too long, because the AC blows right at your head. Spacious walk in shower with sliding door. Check out process was very simple. As we waited for our ride-share, I just provided our name and room number and within seconds we were checked out. I would definitely stay here again if we are in the city for a show.

You can get the water very hot if you want and the Crabtree and Evelyn products smells so good. They also have a coffee maker and coffee bean and tea leaf brand coffee. Well, I went and got the typical scrambled eggs, turkey sausage, and a bandanna. While this location offers the same breakfast items as the Hampton Inn and Embassy Suites, at this Garden Inn location, you have to pay $16.80. They had a man go around filling your coffee mug and getting your food, but again, it's the standard free breakfast items you'd find at other Hilton chains, which explains why we met up and got the items ourselves. Needless to say, the next morning, I went to a local place for breakfast and paid less than $10.00. Next, I checked in late Monday and went to Jewel Osco for work items: a case of water and snacks to keep my team focused and uplifted. Well, after returning, I found out that a water main had broken, flooding some lower-level rooms, and that the fire marshal had shut down the elevators. The manager got two staff members to help me with my grocery bags since I was on the third floor. He told me that he could book me into another hotel. Still, if anyone knows anything about the Chicagoland area, the bedbug capital of the US, it is Chicago, followed by Cleveland and Detroit. So, no, without researching, I'm not moving to another hotel. Besides, has anyone read my Embassy Suites review that mentioned black mold being painted over? By Wednesday, the elevator still wasn't working when I checked out. It was a pain bringing down my hug roller bags, computer bag, and tools, but at least I'm not bringing critters with me. The final issue was that the showerhead in the bathroom was pointed directly at the toilet, so the entire floor got soaked and became a slip hazard. Someone obviously didn't think that through! But wait, one more issue, the reading lamp didn't work; that was close to my bed. On a good note, the staff were friendly, and the hotel was clean, so three out of five stars.

The lamps had harsh bright blue lights that made the room feel cold and uncomfortable. To make things worse, the window in my first floor room was unlocked when I arrived. As a solo female traveler, that felt unsafe and set a horrible tone for the entire weekend. When I brought these issues to the front desk, all I got was a simple "I'm so sorry." No effort to make it right, no real concern shown. For the price and reputation of this hotel, that response is not good enough. If you care about cleanliness and security, I strongly recommend staying somewhere else

We checked into a king bedroom suite and it was so much nicer than we expected for the price. It was super clean and so spacious. It included a kitchenette with dishes and a dishwasher. I could see how you would be comfortable here if you had to stay a long period of time. I wandered to the gym to work out the "all day road trip" kinks. There is a water station right outside of it and it's a pretty well stocked gym complete with exercise balls, free weights, kettle bells, yoga mats, and more. I looked in at the indoor pool and was really sad to not have a swimsuit. It was very clean and looked very inviting. Breakfast is included in the morning with an offering of breakfast sandwiches, omelets, waffles, various yogurts and bread assortments and juice. This location was less convenient for us than another hotel we stayed in during the moving process, though there are various stores and restaurants nearby. We had a disabled accessible room so it was one large space with a king bed, and this was actually more functional than the suite rooms we stayed in (also ADA accessible) elsewhere. The room "divider" was a hospital-room-style curtain that pulled out next to the bed. Elevators were the least sensory friendly I have ever encountered, with loud, high pitched dings (not fun for the cats). We utilized the pool while visiting, but parents should need the rule that unattended children cannot be there by themselves -- some kids came racing to the door (needs to be opened with key card) and banging on it so we would let them in (hell no! We are not going to be responsible for someone else's children. Finally as we were leaving they returned with their parents). Janitor also needed to clean in here as there was blood on the edge of the pool -- not sanitary. Breakfast was ok, nothing to write home about. I will say that despite signage in the elevator talking about "crafting your ultimate breakfast sandwich," the offering was premade Jimmy Dean type stuff. A lot of noise in the halls and lobby at this hotel. Ultimately, we did opt to stay elsewhere the next time.
