Thanks to Nicolas (one of the owners) from Chateau Gazin Scea, I felt like a VIP during my visit!…read more We were the sole visitor of the day and as I drove in, a national flag was strung up to welcome us; delightful touch! Chateau Gazin is located in Pomerol in the Right Bank of Bordeaux. As we started our tour, Nicolas talked about the history of the Chateau. It was a beautiful day and listening to the history of the Chateau was a wonderful experience as we stood in the middle of their vineyard. As the tour continued, we went onto their crusher rooms, VATS, and cellars. What I like most about Chateau Gazin besides the wine is that it is family owned. My visit felt more like an invitation into their home instead of a day to day visit. Even though Chateau Gazin is not as grand as the Left Bank's Chateaus, it has the heart of what a Chateau should be. Today (Sept 14'), we had a tasting of their 2012 Vintage. Very lovely! Thank you, Nicolas, I had a fantastic time. Wishing Chateau Gazin great Vintage for years to come, sante! PS Appointment based tasting, free.

Château Gazin kicked off the final full day of the wife and my tour of Bordeaux wine châteaux and…read morewas our only stop in the Pomerol appellation. Our tour was pre-arranged. Upon arrival at our appointed time, we were met by Nicolas de Bailliencourt, one of the château owners, who gave us our tour and was a gracious and informative host. Without any other Pomerol châteaux to use for comparison, Gazin's structures and its surrounding vineyards seemed somewhat smaller than the Left Bank châteaux we had visited on previous days, which made our tour a bit quicker. That said, much goodness was to be found on its scenic grounds and in the bottle. Our tour culminated in a tasting of their 2012 vintage, which while very young, showed great promise. From the perspective of touring a wine château, Château Gazin doesn't offer much, if anything, new or different from its peers. However, in terms of hospitality and quality of wine, it's worth the time to visit one of best representatives of the Pomerol appellation.
