Château Gazin kicked off the final full day of the wife and my tour of Bordeaux wine châteaux and was our only stop in the Pomerol appellation. Our tour was pre-arranged. Upon arrival at our appointed time, we were met by Nicolas de Bailliencourt, one of the château owners, who gave us our tour and was a gracious and informative host. Without any other Pomerol châteaux to use for comparison, Gazin's structures and its surrounding vineyards seemed somewhat smaller than the Left Bank châteaux we had visited on previous days, which made our tour a bit quicker. That said, much goodness was to be found on its scenic grounds and in the bottle. Our tour culminated in a tasting of their 2012 vintage, which while very young, showed great promise. From the perspective of touring a wine château, Château Gazin doesn't offer much, if anything, new or different from its peers. However, in terms of hospitality and quality of wine, it's worth the time to visit one of best representatives of the Pomerol appellation. read more
