I was in town and killing time before meeting up with some people in the evening, and came across this as an option. I swung by and was thoroughly impressed. The young man behind the counter was friendly and walked me through where I'd be going and what I'd be seeing. I was the only one in the "next group" for the intro video, and he even delayed the start time since I ran to the restroom before roaming the grounds. They have an impressive display of artifacts ranging from early Texas all the way through the frontier days, including a very impressive array of historic guns towards the end. They have interactive kiosks and hologram displays where actors portray historical figures and tell "firsthand" accounts of what was experienced on the frontier, right out of the accounts left by those people beforehand. There's a second theater towards the end of the museum that's a lot more immersive. You have to rotate around in a swivel chair as the story is told from all around you, and there's lights and sound to really sell you on the experience-- all from the comfort of your air-conditioned chair. I don't plan on being back in Abilene anytime soon, but if I ever was back with friends, I'd take them here to check this place out.

I thought it would be the perfect stop to stretch our legs and take a potty break. First - the yelp app map is completely wrong on the location. We were driving along I20 looking for the exit when my husband said "wait - did you say "Lati's Pottery? We just passed it!" After figuring out how to turn around and get back to it we finally arrived and I was super excited! Started looking around outside, tried the door to go in and it was locked. Sign said to knock if locked so we did and it was promptly answered. However it was evident she was anxious to get back behind her counter and not deal with us. My husband asked if he could use bathroom and she said "no".... And there is a no public bathroom sign so we understood that. Okay..... husband told me to look around and he would hold it as best he could so I could shop. I tried to strike up a conversation with her to tell her the app map was wrong - she was short and just not interested. We went outside and looked around but frankly i had lost the will to spend my money there. Yes - part of the issue is we needed a bathroom stop - but her attitude ensures that When we drive by again in a couple days - we won't plan on stopping.

Walking around looking around feeling relaxed, That is when a big dog started barking. Kind of scared other shoppers and myself, but it was behind the counter so everyone was safe. Overall it was pretty need seeing the metal art pieces. If you get to Sweetwater Make a stop in at Lati's Pottery Pig 10809 S Interstate 20 you will really enjoy it.

We went today and it was all pictures of black children's books, for Black History Month. There is a little gift shop full of *signed* children's books (signature for no extra charge). There are also a few reading areas with bins of books, so grab one and read to your kids! You'll find a Little Free Library just outside, which is awesome! Bring a book, take a book. :)

My tee time was later in the afternoon so I planned on eating lunch at the pub but it didn't open up until 1pm...on a Friday? They had a small place around the corner of the range that had hot dogs as the only warm food choice and snacks. After the round I went to check out the pub. The atmosphere was cool with a bunch of TV's and live music. I went with the bartender's recommendation of the pizza and was disappointed. It took way too long and the pizza wasn't worth the wait. Not enough sauce, taste or cooked crispy enough. Plenty of better and more reasonable choices for dinner in the area. Two light beers and personal pizza was $30.

This incredible museum is a must-stop for anyone on a road trip through the area. Even if you're…read morenot a fan of history, it's still so powerful and moving to read about the women who learned to fly here and see and hear them talk about it in their own words. I have to admit we got a little emotional imagining the way they were treated like such second-class citizens, being required to buy their own uniforms, transport themselves to the base, and the leader of the base even buying wings for these women out of her own pocket. Still, even with that cloud hanging over it, it was also incredibly inspiring and powerful to go through the photos, videos, stories, and the awesome PLANES at this museum. One of our favorite stops on the whole trip, I will never forget visiting the WASP museum and getting to climb into some of the old test flying things they had. However, we went back this year and found the course is under new ownership. They are doing a great deal of work to improve the facility. Not only for the golf course, but they also have began serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Allso, it is one of the few places in Merkel that has a first rate bar. They have juke box, and two big screen TV's on the wall for sporting events, and such after golf. It will be interesting to see how much better it gets the next time I am in the area. It is well worth the stop, and not very far off of the interstate.
