(If you're looking for a place to stash some cash and earn some interest, I highly recommend checking them out--they have some good special rates for new members.) The rainy day arrived in the form of an unexpected plumbing expense. Boo. Luckily, my CD had just matured. I came up to this location to move some of my rainy day fund into my primary share so that I could use it to pay for my plumbing fix. I have heard many things about this bank's unethical loan practices and now I have seen them for…read moremyself. Avoid this bank at all cost. Associated Bank services my mortgage loan. This year I wanted to prepay my taxes. I called their loan department to find out if they would suspend my impounds for the year if I prepaid or what I needed to do. I was advised that I would have to continue my impounds but that after the dates the mortgage installments were due they would confirm they were paid and then send me my refund for the overages. They did this after my May installment. After my Oct tax payment date I called Associated Loan services where I was told they no longer will send the overages I will have to wait until next May. That gives them my money for 18 months. This is not what they told me when I made my initial call. They can confirm that my taxes are paid. They can confirm that they have all that money in my escrow account as an overage. They originally told me they would refund after confirmation of tax payment and now they will not release my funds.

I felt confident that we qualified because our mortgage balance was under approximately $50k on a house appraised at over $400,000, our credit scores were very good and excellent with the 3 major credit bureaus, credit card debt was low, and income was guaranteed with retirement & SS income, a large 401k and MN Deferred account, and veteran status. I have bought & refinanced 2 houses and had a paid off HELOC So was familiar with the processes. Eric seemed welcoming and stated after we gave him the above info, that he was confident we would be approved without any issues if all checked out. THEN THE NIGHTMARE BEGAN..... A check in call gave us a verbal approval on an amount to be determined. At no time did we receive a legally required "statement of loan amount, expected expenses, and other financial details". I brought this to Eric's attention after dragging out for several months of positive statuses from Eric. Shortly after that, we received a short blunt letter that we were not approved. Reasons given were low credit scores (mine was over 800 and my spouse's was high 700), too many late payments (not true) and a couple more unsubstantiated reasons. We were stunned especially after rechecking the major credit bureaus to find, nothing close to their reasons except Trustone's frequent hard credit checks that caused credit scores to lose almost 100 points each. Funny that this sudden disapproval happened only AFTER we sent a letter asking about the law required "statement of pre ESTIMATED loan & expenses". Oh, and one more thing, while we were opening an account, the person/teller didn't know what the process was. She kept asking us questions about info they already had AND she didn't seem to know their own process for opening an account. Mostly negative reviews on this business seems to show similar experiences. Their rating on Yelp is only 2 1/2 stars. we should have seen this before this Trustone nightmare -- well lessons learned!

A month ago I completed the paperwork to close the account and transfer the remaining funds, over $5000, to my credit union that I have an account with. The money was not transferred to my CU account after a week. I called the bank and was told that the paperwork was missed and was still on the recipients desk. I was told that it would be forwarded to the correct team ASAP. About a week and a half later, the bank called my wife and told her that they initiated the transfer. A month to the day I still have not received my money. I called and was told that the transfer was mistakenly put on hold. There was no explanation why. I asked if I could go to a local branch and get a cashiers check and was told that the local branch lobby hours are 9-3, so they would be closed by the time I get there. Again, I was told that the transfer will be started and that I will have the money in 3 days. These people are grossly incompetent at best and at worst .... well ready between the lines.
