Each time it offers that weak excuse and, each time, the deposit never bounces. Skip this bank. Go to a credit union, or Chase, or Vinny down the street who holds your money. My name is Richard Martinez. I have been a customer of Capitol ONE since Aug of 2023. Since I…read moreopened this personal account I had zero complaints of your system of banking, until 05/15/2024. I live in Lafayette, Louisiana, where I opened this account because of Regions Bank's mismanagement of my private bank account. Never thought another seemingly reputable bank could top what Regions did, but here we are. I work all over these United States of America building chemical and refinery plants. Currently, I am in South Carolina and will be for approximately another 10 months. My strip on my card was damaged and ordered a new card about 3 months ago. I was told Capitol ONE could not send my new card to the apartment I am renting and could only send it to the address on record. I understood this and told the agent that I had no way of retrieving the card from my home. I made due with the card I had mainly because most places have ungraded to reading the chip instead of swiping the strip. This is until I had the first chance to fly home for a well-earned vacation. On 05/15/2024, I arrived at the Charleston International Airport around 0600 hrs. I purchased a small breakfast sandwich there, no problem. I arrived in Houston around 1100 hrs. Extremely hungry, and after standing in a very long line, I attempted to purchase something to eat, but my card was declined. I received a text message from the fraud department asking if I was attempting to make this purchase. I replied YES. This had happened before, so I was not too worried about this. Last time, I received a similar message, and after replying YES, the purchase was allowed to proceed. NOT THIS TIME. I immediately called your customer service number and was told, initially, that a card with a different expiration date was now the card of record. I asked multiple phone agents how this could be as I never received any card to even activate one. One agent actually laughed at my situation of being on a 2 hour layover in Houston with absolutely no access to my money this bank held hostage. Thank God it was just myself going hungry and thirsty, being as I do not carry cash when I travel. If my family had been with me, this would be a different discussion altogether. I went from 0600 hrs to 1800 hrs without a single ounce of food or drink, with every agent and their supervisors some what apologizing but not helping fix the problem thier company had created. I am making plans to go to my home branch and try to get answers of why my card was deactivated and a new card, I have never had in my possession was placed as the card on file for my account. I asked everyone I spoke with how a card I never activated could deactivate the only card I have ever personally had. Everyone kept blaming "the system," but no one could explain how your bank left me stranded in Houston for hours.

I closed my Iberia Bank(now owned by First Horizon) and I was also a Midsouth Bank customer several years back. I will have to admit I was a little irritated when I first came to Capital One because I was expecting the same routine as every other bank around. That would be bring in multiple pieces of ID, a cashiers check and/or cash to open the account and do it at a time where you have an hour or more to spare. What I found was that most everything is done by you, the customer online and you don't even need to go into the location! It can literally all be done online (I assume but maybe there are exceptions). So, once they walked me though the process online I went home and opened my savings, CD and an account for my wife in just minutes. I've seen the commercials and they call it "banking reimagined" and Samuel L. Jackson is always saying "what's in your wallet?". In the end and after understanding the difference in philosophy which is really an approach of "the customer controls their accounts" I can say I am much happier with Capital One then I am any of the other 5 or 6 banks I've been using over the last 25 years. It doesn't cost anything to join and when you look at the fees other banks charge for services and the minimums, you'll quickly see the advantages of banking here. Enjoy!
