Amazingly poor customer service. About 6 weeks back, as the POA on an existing account, I was told…read morethat the POA only begins once the account owner has died. Completely not accurate and fully opposite of when a POA is in effect. So now I went back in and a customer service person never even said, "Hello, how can we help you?" Did say, "Do you need something?" Wanted to say, "No, I just walk into banks all time to be close to money!" After she started talking to me, unmasked as she was, about 10 minutes into the conversation she said, "Have a seat" (and I thought those chairs were just for show!). Knowing I was the POA on the account, this woman would not give me any information until she spoke to the account owner, my 92 year old parent and she actually wanted me to bring my parent in, as immobile as my parent is! She finally agreed to talk to my parent by phone before giving me the info. She exhibited no real understanding if the purpose and power of a POA. When I asked her why she was not willing to comply with the legal status of a POA, she said the bank just preferred to do things differently. Different from the law? By the way, I know Jan Wells mentioned in the other review and I feel Jan would have handled the situation completely differently! http://www.legis.ga.gov/Legislation/20172018/170165.pdf.

My ex-husband walked in with no bank account and got his cashed. I will not recommend this bank to anyone. I went to Region's Bank with no account with them and they cashed them for me. People's Bank is a sorry excuse for a bank. When it comes time to get a bank account I will use Region's Bank.

I have been a Georgia's Own Credit Union member for years, and I am extremely disappointed with how…read moremy concerns about overdraft-protection transfer fees have been handled. I recently discovered that Georgia's Own was charging me $6 each time its overdraft-protection system automatically transferred money from my savings account to my checking account. I had intentionally kept most of my money in savings as a way to manage my spending. I did not understand that these automatic transfers would cost me $6 each time. By the time I realized what was happening, I had accumulated $420 in these fees. I contacted Georgia's Own and went to a branch to ask for help. I explained that I had not understood the fee arrangement and asked that the charges be reviewed. My request for a refund was denied. Then four more $6 overdraft-protection transfer fees were charged yesterday--another $24. When I called the 1-800 number, I was again told that the fees could not be reversed. I also learned that I can manually transfer money myself, subject to the applicable transfer terms( which are 6 free transfers made a month and $5 each after you've reached the limit of transfers), and I have paid $5 each for two transfers. I did not previously understand these different transfer costs. My concern isn't simply that Georgia's Own has fees. My concern is the lack of clarity I experienced about how these transfers worked and how quickly repeated $6 charges could accumulate. I receive Social Security income and have medical limitations that affect my ability to handle some banking matters in person. Losing hundreds of dollars to fees has a real impact on me. I have now submitted a formal written dispute requesting documentation showing when and how I enrolled in the overdraft-protection transfer service, what disclosure I received regarding the $6-per-transfer charge, and when and how that disclosure was provided to me. I am sharing my experience because other Georgia's Own members should check their accounts. If you use savings as backup for your checking account, look through your transaction history for entries labeled "Overdraft Protection Fee." Also review the alert settings in your online banking and make sure you understand what fees can be charged when money is automatically transferred between your accounts. I wish someone had told me to look for this sooner. I am asking Georgia's Own to review my situation fairly and refund the disputed overdraft-protection transfer fees. I will update this review when I receive their written response. Please check your own account so you don't discover hundreds of dollars in fees after they have already accumulated.
