The staff is very friendly and caring and due to the language barrier, whenever they dont know what is bothering my mom they will call us so that we can talk with her and find out if there is anything that they can do to make her feel better. They always engage the residents in different activities, for instance, they decorate the Christmas tree together, draw, plant vegetables, hold music shows, paint vases, etc.... Hope Kensington Gardens continues to offer the quality care with the dignity our senior family members deserve to have, for many years!

They had wonderful fun and experiences there, and made some very special friendships with the staff and other residents. My Dad passed away last year, and he always said how thankful he was that they had moved to Dunfield, and he was at peace knowing that my Mom would be well looked after. The staff are incredible, and the amazing activities and delicious food make it even better. I am also so thankful and impressed with how well they managed throughout the pandemic. The residents were kept safe, and incredibly well looked after, and the communication updates were fantastic. i can't say enough good things about Dunfield. I am forever thankful that my parents made the decision to move there when they did. The staff and many of the residents became like a second family for them. Beauty is skin deep…read more This is a review for all the sons and daughters with parents looking for a retirement home. We all obviously would like to see our parents happy in their last years and while on the surface the Dunfield appears very nice (even with a Star article on how exciting the activities are at the home) I'm here to tell that my personal experience I would discourage having your folks moving into this home. If you do move into this home you'd better make sure that you are nearby at all times, because this home will not be there for you when your parent faces a health crisis. My mother has a history of strokes and she had an episode. I do not live in Toronto and could not be available. When I talked with the director of care during this event she started to tell me that they are not a assisted living facility and could not provide anyone to travel with my mother to the hospital. Now my mother was disorientated and I've spend enough time in Canadian hospitals to realized that if there isn't someone there fighting to get the patient looked at you might not even get treated for a day. In the end, I yelled at the director of care and she finally relented and sent a nurse with my mom. However, I can tell you the stress was extreme and I can assure you don't want to be in that position. I also get the feeling that the home was taking advantage of folks. It is so expensive and yet they don't really take care of everything one might need. For example, they supply one assisted shower per week, and of course if you need the assistance then you are likely going to need additional showers. The Dunfield charges $40 extra for every shower, so be sure to ask for all potential charges. Frankly, I think the home is in a bit of trouble. The last I check they have a large construction project next door (be sure to visit during the week to hear the noise) which will block all views on the north side and they are also blocked on the south side. My mother was never really that happy at the home. Again on the surface things look good, the food is well prepared, and the setting very nice but it was never a particularly friendly environment. She is at a new home now and is very happy so you probably should really feel out the environment. Check out how often people talk in the hallways and in the lobby. In my mother's new home there is a very friendly environment where people talk to each other much more than they did at the dunfield. and that helps keep my your parents happier and I believe healthier. In the end I'd encourage you to have your folks look around and discuss with them what happens during a crisis, this is particularly an issue when you parent is a widow/widower. Make sure you get all the charges and talk through multiple outcomes. Finally, I'd consider a home like the Amica at Villa Da Vinci where they are very focus on taking genuine care of you parents.

However, please note that the knowledge and experience of health management and staff at these facilities are "skin deep". They may be unqualified to provide the level of health services they advertise. This particular facility has a negative reputation at two major Toronto hospitals. In ignorance, the physician and health manager at Delmanor Prince Edward broke health law twice in the care of my husband (much to the disgust of hospital professionals). This is a beautiful place to live if your loved one is (and remains) in perfect health, but we cannot recommend such an inexperienced facility. We believe residents encountering health difficulties would be in danger here.

They have the most caring staff and some have been there 20 years so you know this is their passion. Joyce leads the PSW's by example. She is respectful and professional, compassionate and yet firm. Mom has regained all of the weight that she lost because of a lack of desire to cook and the loneliness of eating alone. The kitchen does a very good job at preparing healthy meals that the residents enjoy. Jean, who does so many of the activities with the residents is creative and hardworking, recently adding a blind silent auction to the regular Bingo, exercise classes and walks to Timmy's. The recent opening of the new senior centre around the corner will compliment the activities offered on site. Mom couldn't be happier and I have great peace of mind. If you are thinking of making this transition, sit in the lobby for a while before or after a tour to get a real feel for it.

We took a tour and planted the thought of mom moving in. we told mom it is a place to go live not to go to die. There was a room available but mom felt she wasn,t ready. A couple months go by and mom was told by the doctor that she can,t live on her own, fortunately a room came available at Cobblestone. Mom has thrived there. She has started eating again (the food is delicious) she has made many friends and she loves the staff, they are fun and so caring., They give mom such great care. Mom loves the activies and we have to work our visits around them, lol They have people come into sing and play music which mom loves.I would highly recommend Cobblestone for independent living.
