The biggest concern was safety. We experienced multiple car break-ins and even attempts to get into the apartment itself. These incidents ultimately made us feel unsafe living here, and we decided to move out before the end of our lease, meaning we had to pay for two apartments at once. It was a very frustrating and expensive situation.
Another major issue was the temperature upstairs. The second floor would get extremely hot, regardless of how low we set the thermostat. We had to close multiple vents downstairs and keep the AC set as low as 68°F just to make the upstairs tolerable enough to sleep. We even had to purchase and install a ceiling fan in the bedroom because the temperature was so uncomfortable.
We also had ongoing issues with large roaches. I wouldn't necessarily describe it as an infestation, but we saw them often enough that it became a constant concern. They were extremely difficult to get rid of, and seeing large roaches inside your home is something that unfortunately sticks with you.
There is also a retention pond/creek directly behind the property that would frequently produce a very unpleasant smell. At times, the odor was strong enough to noticeably stink up the surrounding property, which made being outside or enjoying the area around the apartment unpleasant.
The trash situation was another ongoing problem. The dumpsters were frequently overflowing, and even the overflow dumpster would become completely full. The trash simply didn't seem to be picked up often enough to keep up with the amount of waste. When we moved out, there was literally no room in the dumpsters, so we had to pay for a junk removal service ourselves just to dispose of our belongings. This was especially frustrating during an already expensive move-out process.
The maintenance team is generally responsive, which I appreciate, but there are ongoing quality issues. Towel racks, toilet paper holders, and curtain rods would constantly fall off the walls, which became more than just an occasional inconvenience.
The rent is also quite expensive, and the move-out charges were extremely high. We were charged to replace the entire carpet over a few stains, when it seemed like professional carpet cleaning would have been a much more reasonable solution.
Ashley, the leasing agent, was always incredibly sweet and helpful, and she is honestly one of the best parts of the property. However, despite the spacious apartment and good customer service from her, the overall property was not worth the cost or the stress for us. Between the safety concerns, temperature issues, recurring roach problem, unpleasant odors, overflowing trash, maintenance issues, and high move-out charges, we ultimately decided it was best to leave early.
