I lived at the Element for over 3.5 years and was so happy to call it home! The whole crew - Janice, Harley, Johnny, & Karen, were so incredibly helpful and friendly at all times. The complex has several great features. It's conveniently located near downtown Norfolk and Ghent and the management is excellent. It's a fairly new building and there clearly is gentrification happening so the area has its good and sketchy spots. The management again is great-- responsive, personable, and always have activities going on for their residents. The complex isn't really old and the upkeep in the community areas is superb. Now... I really hate to give this complex a 3 because of the aforementioned, but there are some challenges. The walls are THIN and the floors aren't well insulated so I hear everything (cringe). Every time my neighbors walk room to room I hear them. Initially I thought my neighbors were just heavy footed, then I had a couple weeks of bliss (where I didn't have to walk around with ear plugs) just to find out my neighbors moved. New neighbors are in and that equals me hearing heavy foot steps, dog barking, shower, even talking sometimes, etc. I found myself almost tip toeing, hoping not to sound like the people above me. There have been also a few fire alarms. I'm not sure why, but the last one I experienced, which was early in the morning, I was told was a result of someone pulling the alarm. That night I saw tons of young people hanging out here. Initially reading the reviews I thought I would be surrounded with professionals that came home to rest and relax from work-- while I think that is true I also have realized more young people are here than I expected (maybe college students) maybe not. Overall, it's a nice spot but for the price, I'd expect a bit more from the building structure. If you aren't a light sleeper and aren't too bothered by noise this place will suit you just fine. I actually wish the noise didn't bother me, then it would've been almost perfect. read more

My wife and I lived here for almost 3 years along. It was an amazing experience the whole time. The staff- Harley, Janice, and Johnny are incredible. They always communicated very well and if a service request was put in, it was fixed that day or the very next day. We had a blast at the parties (prior to covid) and even enjoyed the events they hosted later where it was come and grab food or Christmas raffles, I won $50 off rent one month. They also offer a military discount which was cool, and they spoiled our dogs almost more than we did. Many life events happened here and I will always cherish them. If you have the chance definitely try to live here. You won't regret it. read more

I am probably the MOST picky resident but I have to say the staff here is the best ever. They go above and beyond and put on the most amazing resident events. It really shows that they care about their residents. Two weeks ago they arrived before five am to make sure they served the residents breakfast. Then this past week they did a huge taco night with margaritas and a margarita machine. Janice, Harley, and Johnny are top of the line!!!! I couldn't possibly live anywhere else. Besides the apartments and amenities being very clean, modern/cozy and safe, the staff's hospitality is what truly made this place feel like a home away from home. Due to a busy life/work schedule, I've moved 18 times and Element at Ghent does not compare to anywhere else. The apartments are located in a safe and beautiful area accessible by foot to all the fun spots and restaurants/bars in Norfolk and Ghent. The community at Ghent is very friendly and this is, mainly, thanks to Janice and Harley who go the extra mile to get to know their residents on a personal level and plan frequent events to bring the community together. The events are always very fun and have a huge turnout out too! Janice and Harley even make most of the food and drinks on their own time for these events so they can budget for more frequent events and prizes. I mean come on!!! Also...shout-out to the maintenance team with Johnny and Kevin. They make sure maintenance requests are taken care of immediately and always do a great job to make sure whatever problem I had doesn't occur again. Karen, I don't know what sorcery she uses but the apartment complex is always spotless and smells amazing!!! Any time I have guests over, the first thing they compliment when they walk in the building is how clean and welcoming it is and how good it smells. My partner and I loved living here and would recommend it to anyone wanting a safe and welcoming home environment. Janice and Harley, I'll miss frequently stopping by your office just to talk about everything and anything. Love It.... just a great place to live. Janice and Harley treat everyone as if they are the only tenant. The up keep and maintenance is unbelievable, plus all the amenities and all the monthly activities for the tenants is amazing. You live in the heart of Ghent, so everything is walking distance. The structure and design of the building leans for added security. The 1st floor is really the 3rd which means no window access to your apartment. Also the key fob for access to all the doors and elevators, just a wonder design. Johnnie the maintenance manager is out of this world, clean, professional and ready available to respond to service requests. This is a slice of heaven on earth. Janice amd Harley are the best! Super friendly and attentive manager and assist manager. Who recommended a great dog walker in the area. Karen who cleans the apartment complex does a great job. After the weekend it always gets cleaned up if something got left/dirty etc. Jonny who is the maintenance man is always friendly to people and dogs love him, like run to him. He does a great job fixing things right away as well. They also have community get togethers and at Christmas had giveaways which almost everyone who attend receive a gift. It is like having a family away from home. Apartment is nice and spacious, love the balcony. Can't ask for a nicer place in the area. read more

This is an absolutely fantastic apartment experience. The grounds are secure, clean, modern and well managed. The complex is a few blocks from 21st Street, a booming street with great food options, coffee shops and specialty stores. Additionally, located 1-mile from downtown norfolk, it's perfect for an Uber ride or walk to great bars and more food options. The Chrysler Museum is a few blocks away and is perfect for a Sunday afternoon date. The management team is absolutely fantastic! Harley and Janice keep the complex in top shape and ensures everyone is attended to. They host great events, several times a month, and is extremely speedy in their response to anything. I went to visit over a month ago & got a tour. It was a cute community, BUT it didn't look kid-friendly. I asked if there were any children that lived there & was told "not many". I saw mainly 20 yr olds by the pool & in the gym. That's fine and all, but I want a property that focuses on families too. Not just dogs. It costs extra for parking, valet trash, & insurance. At the time, the 2 bedroom Iridium model was running at $1599 mo with $3 fees for application, trash, & insurance. I don't know what they cost now. Though I am not going to rent here, I do appreciate the salt water taffy and soda I got during my visit. :) read more

The team in the office are wonderful people - they are not the typical building office staff. They are personable & caring. They also go over and above with little details throughout the year - planed holiday parties for the building, dinners for the tenants. They absolutely make living here a job & easy. Highly recommend, you'll be in good hands. Plus, the apartments are new and well-maintained due to the high quality maintenance staff. And the common areas are always clean and put together! My then fiancé, now husband moved here in November they were just starting to rent out 1 & 2 bedrooms. We really like living here. I came in May and pool opened Memorial Day weekend. Staff and leasing office members are friendly. They encourage get togethers and resident functions. Renting the clubhouse for any function is easy to do. Trash chutes on every floor and parking is complimentary unless you want your own reserved spot. It's safe and secure and walking distance to the Ghent area, bars and restaurants! So glad we chose to live here, perks include a less than 2 mile commute to old dominion university where I work and just a few miles from the navy shipyard in Portsmouth and naval station norfolk base. read more

My move to Norfolk was my first big move on my own and I didn't realize how stressful it could be until I started it. Thankfully, dealing with the staff at the Element was a relief and helped ease some of that stress. Due to circumstances, I had to get my apartment sight unseen, but Harley was very helpful and quick to respond to emails regarding any questions I had. Not only that but the staff seemed genuinely excited to have me there. I showed up to Norfolk without a bed, so getting one was my first priority. When I brought one back it was beginning to rain, my roommate wasn't around, and I saw no other tenants to help me get it up to my apartment. Luckily Janice was there and she went out of her way to help me. She assisted me in getting both the mattress and the box spring off of my car and up to my room. I believe she went above and beyond in helping me during this stressful time. The building itself is very clean and is well taken care of. It's located near a large shopping mall, and is within walking distance of plenty of places to eat and explore. There is a grocery store in the neighborhood, as well as a couple of schools, and a large gym. The Element offers it's own 24 hour exercise room that has free weights, a couple of treadmills, ellipticals, a cable machine, and some other various exercise equipment which just adds to the convenience. There is a pool, and plenty of grills to use in the summer, too. The staff does an amazing job of fostering a welcoming atmosphere by holding social events throughout the month as a way to bring people together. This can be especially nice if you're new to the area and don't know a lot of people. I would highly recommend the Element at Ghent to anyone, especially those in the military as they are quite understanding of the situations that line of work can bring. Pay attention to the negative reviews on this building because they are the most truthful as they are residents who have lived in this building the longest. We just ended our lease after 15 months. Thank goodness we did. There has been nothing but problems since we moved in. Break ins in a "locked" garage, pets constantly peeing down the entire stairwells and it being there for weeks before it was cleaned, incompetent office staff, constant middle of the night fire alarms, and the list goes on. If you for some reason choose this "luxury" building out of the thousands of other rentals in the Ghent area beware. It's hardly even in Ghent as it is on the outskirts so you have the constant traffic of shady people. Another would be the cost for parking in the garage that's NEVER full. Do yourself a favor and live in the apartment building next door or over on 21st St. Make sure to be very thorough on your move in inspection because it will become imperative on move out. Plus the office staff likes to enter your apartment for pre move out inspections without your knowledge. I can't say enough and how I'm glad we got out of this horrible apartment with a shady company and management. Being military it's very easy to spread the word on places not to live in Norfolk and this would be one of them that I will forewarn anyone who's looking for a new place to live. read more

The management staff here is the absolute best, and go out of their way to accommodate residents and make you feel at home. The maintenance is always on top of requests and will respond promptly and efficiently. Coming from previous apartment living in different states, this complex and their commitment to service are above and beyond any we have previously experienced. Harley and Janice throw great resident socials multiple times a month where they provide food and drinks and an inviting atmosphere for residents to get to know one another. I moved in under old management as a valued resident I will leave here when my lease is up as an unhappy customer. The new management added fees which should just be included in rent and keep adding them. The latest asinine policy is parking which typically has 80+ extra empty spots available now is $35-50 and you can't have a guest park in the garage when they come visit literally leaving them out on the street! The clubhouse which used to be the source of resident events and a sense of community now costs $150 to reserve and I only anticipate more of these policies coming down from the corporate puppetmasters who local management just pass the buck to instead of taking accountability and saying something. The kicker is next door and down the street, there are some amazing complexes that don't charge all these extra fees to their residents (and have free parking and guest parking). Look at Alexander at Ghent and 201 twenty-one befoe Element! I would give zero stars if the computer said I could. read more

I moved here back in December and toured close to 20 apartments in the surrounding area and none of them came close to the Element at Ghent. Not only are their apartments themselves immaculate; their friendly staff, amenities and fortified parking garage is definitely worth every penny. Plus it is right across from a OneLife fitness gym. Why does my apartment complex only have three stars, its definitely deserving of five! Its been a few months since I moved in, and there isn't a day i regret it. The management does an amazing job of hosting events, taking care of maintenance issues, handling the mail, and keeping us happy. If the Management doesn't sell you alone then the location will, the convenience of being 5 mins away from a Starbucks, grocery store, restaurant, gym, dog park and more is pretty glorious. This apartment complex is quickly going down hill. The managment office is unprofessional and does not take resident concerns seriously. There have been multiple break ins, noise issues, fire alarms and management has done nothing to solve problems. The price has continued to go up, yet the quality of living continues to go down. I enjoyed living here for the first year, but it has been a terrible experience going into the second year. I would not recommend living here if you prioritize safety and tolerable standerds of living. read more
