I'm writing this to warn other parents about what is actually going on behind closed doors at San…read moreDimas High School. The administration here completely brushes off student safety, privacy issues, and basic classroom accountability. This ongoing issue started last year when my son had a severe boundary violation. A female staff member, Nory Gress, walked right into the boys' locker room while he was inside. My son was feeling incredibly uncomfortable and trying to change, even though he didn't want to be in that environment. When he went to report this, Assistant Principal Dr. Brianna Nix and locker room staff member Brad McKibben basically teamed up to gaslight him. They made cheap excuses, claiming it was completely fine for a female staff member to enter the boys' locker room just because my son was supposedly "not listening" and was supposed to be heading to class. Even if a student is having a hard time listening or moving quickly, sending an opposite-sex staff member into a private changing space is a massive privacy violation. To make it worse, Dr. Nix then threatened to lower his PE grade if he refused to change in there. My son was forced to keep changing in an environment where he felt totally uncomfortable just to protect his academic grades. Threatening a kid's grades to brush off a privacy complaint is completely unacceptable.Because of that incident, we asked the school for a simple, private alternative space this year--like letting him use the nurse's restroom or a single-stall bathroom to change safely. They just gave us more excuses, claiming staff bathrooms are for staff only and the nurse's room is only for sick kids. Yet, the school has no problem with double standards, considering male PE teacher Mike Regan constantly goes into the student restroom facilities instead of using adult spaces. On top of that, Mike Regan barely even teaches. He spends almost the entire PE class sitting on his cell phone scrolling social media and playing shooting games. Then he has the nerve to get visibly frustrated and yell at the students for being on their phones, dressing late, or not doing the exercises. It makes zero sense to expect teenagers to follow phone rules and do strenuous workouts when the teacher won't even put his own phone away, stand up, lead by example, or do the exercises along with them. The locker room and restroom situation overall is an absolute disaster, especially when it comes to the massive vaping and smoking issue that the staff just ignores. My son regularly deals with groups of kids passing vapes around inside the locker room itself. When he reported it directly to Brad McKibben, McKibben did absolutely nothing to address it and just gave a lazy excuse saying he "has to catch them while it's happening," completely refusing to even go inside and check on the kids. This total lack of accountability carries over to the hallway restrooms too. When my son reported kids vaping to a staff member standing right outside the restroom door, that worker literally told him he couldn't go in because he "didn't want to get in trouble for telling the kids to stop." Even after bringing this up to the principal, nothing changed. Just recently, my son found a discarded nicotine box in the bathroom and tried to hand it to a staff member on duty. The worker completely ignored him just to chat with another student. When my son got frustrated and told them they needed to start doing their jobs and take this seriously, they just brushed him off again. This school looks fine from the outside, but the staff and front office simply do not care about student safety or rules. We are looking forward to addressing this directly to the district office if there is nothing done about it by the school. If you care about your child's safety and privacy, please move schools please.
