I have nothing but good things to say about Charter. They were there for my grandmother and our family every step of the way. The social worker Myila, the nursing staff Sherri, Tansy, Jody, Melinda, all the others, the bathing aides, Martha. They were wonderful. Please remember, just because your loved one is in hospice care does not mean they don't need caregiving from you. It's a group effort to take care of our loved ones during this time. Charter made this process a little bit easier by providing prompt efficient care, bringing and maintaining the supplies that were needed as well as extending their hearts while our beloved grandmother was transitioning. read more

During my 30+ year career in death investigation; I have worked with several hospice groups, I was even there when the concept started. My family has had to use hospice services to care for family members. We have found charter hospice to be the best all around services to create a total patient care package. BEWARE!! My Mom has made the mistake of living to long so Charter has promptly discharged her. This is a terribly administered, profit over patient, corporate cold outfit. We had arrainged for Mom to be in the Hospice Network that Mom's primary doctor is a part of, but St Mary's put Mom on Charter Hospice to release her. In other words, "She was snagged by Charter while in the hospital." Charter called me at 7:30pm Thursday night to inform me that they would be here at 9:00am Friday morning to discharge her. Do not believe Charter's 24/7 boast of Nursing Services, as Mom was denied a nurse visit at 10:30pm on a Sunday night. Charter only repeated the statement, "We encourage the family to participate in these matters." Mom was accepted by the #1 ranked Hospice on this list within 7 hours of my call and their Doctor was amazed that Charter would discharge a patient in Mom's condition. My mother was on hospice with this co. They failed to report her 2 black eyes she received due to neglect at home where she stayed, she was suppose to be cared for, but was obvious she was not being taken care of . The drugs they had her on were not even necessary and most likely killed her. They were not around but a short while during a few days a week , she died alone . They failed to let us know what was going on with her when we called. I am her daughter. read more

Awful. This is for decisions made by the leadership and not the actual nurses who were wonderful This hospice put reimbursement in front of patient care. They discharged a patient because he was "not dying fast enough." They are worried about reimbursement only. The patient was immediately admitted to another hospice, proving that he in fact does qualify for hospice services. They are disgusting. Their nurses were very upset about this. BEWARE. read more

I would not recommend Charter Hospice to a dog. They have absolutely no integrity or consideration for the caregiver. It's all about the money for them. I had already chosen a hospice company that tried to contact St. Mary's to coordinate my mom's discharge with no success. She & I both tried to organize my moms discharge with no success. I'm very suspicious that was planned so I would have to use Charter Hospice. The doctor at St, Mary's hospital told me I had to use Charter Hospice because it was after hours now even though my chosen company couldn't get through to the nurse for most of the day. I believe the doctor gets a kick back. This situation with my mom is not life threatening or they wouldn't have released her. Charter Hospice sent someone to my home at 12 midnight & 1 am even though this is not a life threatening situation. The only threat there was is Charter Hospice would not get in to take this job from another hospice company. I found out afterward the doctor said I had to use Charter that I do have a choice. I have since canceled Charter Hospice service. Charter Hospice is only about what they can get from Medicare. Horrible customer service. They may be good at nursing but their PR is seriously in adequate. read more

My father-in-law was a resident at Foremost Memory Care Facility when he was still alive. He passed away Sept 2017. Charter Hospice was used as he was heading towards the end-of-life. My mother-in-law still to this day speaks volumes on how great they were with explaining everything. She told me many times that "Charter has everything covered." My concern as a experienced RN, that has worked ICU and helped patients and families with end-of-life, I was skeptical. After I had the opportunity to speak to the intake RN on the phone, I explained the families wishes, and was reassured that they would honor exactly what the family wanted. Even the day he died, the Nurse that came out was really compassionate. We still get letters from Charter about bereavement groups. The support does not end the day your loved one passes on. Charter hospice has wonderful! My dad was with them for a year. From the very first informational meeting we knew their service would be helpful. The nurses, bath aides, Social Worker, Chaplain and sitters were wonderful. if we had anything pop up at night or a weekend they were quick to respond. My dad really felt he had good care from them and they made my job as a caregiver so much easier in educating me. I will be forever grateful to them for their assistance in my dad's last year of life. read more

My encounter with Charter was they lack in service and quality. My father had to wait over 10 days for a new comfortable bed after promises it would be the next day. At times one of the nurses was nice but overall experience with them was poor service. It took 3 days for their hospice doctor to see my father for an assesment. They pass the blame on other employees or subcontractors. It took 2 hours for the R.N. to arrive after my father passed because she was out of town. I live in Orange County and was suffering from an ear infection at the end of November, so could not go up to see my mom in Apple Valley. The day after Thanksgiving, she called and said she was going to the ER. My sister would take her. I got a call that night that they were admitting her to the hospital as she was retaining too much fluid. They gave her medication and kept her there for a couple of days. Then they moved her to a rehab facility, where she developed a UTI, and they called to say she was unresponsive. They took her back to the hospital (actually the other one in the area). They gave her antibiotics, but because she was very confused, they released her and sent her to a Care home. My sister had told me that we had to put her on Hospice. Why, she wasn't dying, and the doctors said she should rally back around. She told me she put her on Charter Hospice. I was concerned as to me Hospice means they are dying. SHe had been fine literally 5 days before. I got a call from the Hospice nurse on December 12, saying my mom was 'transitioning' and she did not think she would make it. I had talked to her that day! When I asked the nurse what they were doing for her - they said giving her morphine to keep her pain free. I said she doesn't need that, she is trying to wake up, that is why she wants help. I was going to drive up there in two days. However at 4 am, I got another call from the nurse saying she was gone. I believe it was the lack of care in the home, and the nurses shooting her up with morphine. Don't trust them. read more

The rep that helps you get started, Aaron literally replied LOL when I asked him to send paperwork again because my father passed away. LOL? Pretty much describes the professionalism that this company offered. Called me on a Thursday that my father had hours left to live. Friday he died at 3pm and fortunately the facility contacted me to let me know because Charter didn't call me until 2 hours after. Look for other options. Any other options. read more

We began Charter Hospice with our elderly Father and eventually our Mother needed to be put on hospice care as well. Over a period of a year's time we could have not asked for better care of them. Their two nurses were kind, caring, and ABSOLUTELY made certain that our loved ones every need was met. Nurses always answered their cell phones when we called, and if they were unable to at the time, promptly returned our calls. One of the nurses returned to the Assisted Living home (on her own time) to be with our Father when he passed away as she knew we lived too far away to make it there in time. She didn't want him to be alone. They always extended loving care and listened to any concern. All of their medical goods and Rx's were promptly delivered upon request and our parents never wanted for anything. We can't say enough about this organization. We would highly recommend them. I'm writing this a year after my mother's passing. In reflecting on what we went through when she was diagnosed with terminal cancer, I realized how grateful I am for the care she received--us as well. We received all the equipment and medicine she required within hours of making the decision to take her home. The nurses were available when we needed them, even in the middle of the night. It is never easy to lose a loved one but it was sure nice to have reliable medical care when you need it most. read more

The absolute worse Home Health Care company. Please think twice before placing your loved one in their care. My grandmother was placed on Hospice care with this facility and since being in their care they have not lived up to any of the services they promised. My grandmothers care has suffered as the result of the company being understaffed. At times it took multiple hours to get someone here to assist us when my grandmother was in need. The staff (nurses and management) have also been rude and condescending with my family members as well in our time of need. We were promised that someone would come to help a few nights a week with care and it was not followed through with whatsoever. We have received inconsistent care for my ailing grandmother. The point of this care for my grandmothers condition is to ensure that she is comfortably cared for. This has not been the case with the services of care we have received from Charter If you care for family member and wish for their last days of care to be of ease and support DO NOT CHOOSE CHARTER HOSPICE! read more

Where to start?...When your mom is dying from cancer and agrees to in home hospice , all you hope for is really good pain management. You don't want her to hurt. You want to her to be able to pass away peacefully. After a figuring out Kaiser didn't service my mom's tiny high desert town, some how, my miracle of a hospital social worker, we got connect with Charter Hospice. They took her home from the hospital, set her up with everything she needed and said they would be back the next day. In the course of three weeks, she had an RN, Mirira, there at least twice a week to check on her and an LVN, Britney there most other week days. There were three times that I can recall calling the emergency line and Britney came so quick. There was one other LVN but I can't remember name because I wasn't there when she came. BUT they were ALL AWESOME. When you live in a small town that no one wants to go to, there is massive concern about any services being good, let alone medical service. But I'm confident in saying that every one we came across with Charter was nothing but the best. The thing I appreciated the most was the honesty and openness Mirira kept with us all. He made my mom's progression to passing a bit more manageable and understandable. After my mom passed, someone from the ministry came and prayed with us. The nurse organized her pick up by the mortuary. Everything we feared dealing with at such a vulnerable time was dealt with immediately. Choosing Hospice is never easy.. but I would 100% recommend Charter to anyone I love. Thank you!!!! read more
