We walked in to an empty restaurant right at dinner time. Ppl who know me know that rt at that moment I get very Wary. But service was impeccable. Drinks were impeccable and food was impeccable. We ordered some cocktails. The young lady servicing us was polite and understanding. She came back with our drinks promptly and gave us time to peruse the menu Hubby got a burger with beercheese on the side with no buns. I got a fungi burger with onion rings on the side. One thing- sides should be equal whether its adult or kids' meal lol. I did want grapes for my sides But its ok. The drinks were wonderfully balanced. And delicious. I've forgotten exactly which burgers these were, but as one can see from the photos, they looked excellent, and they tasted great, too! The service was really good. Comfortable, welcoming space. Great service from a knowledgeable server who is studying at UNL. She did an excellent job and answered our every question. We had a cod sandwich, which was a special, and a char burger touted as being Waygu beef. The portion was a bit small for a place whose name features burgers. The char was a bit much on one side. Took a quick little break with my honey for lunch today after helping her with some of her work. We wanted to try something different, and really scored! We both had a classic burger , Barbara had onion rings and ice tea, I had tots and lemonade. Burgers were excellent, the onion ring she shared was one of the best I have had in a very long time, the tots were perfectly extra crispy and both were seasoned exceptionally well! Family friendly and has garage doors that open up to the sidewalk. It is right next to the movie theater and a great place to hang out. I had the classic burger that had a garlic aïoli that was fantastic. They specialize in different aïoli sauce to put on your sandwich as well as dipping sauces for your sides like french fries, onion rings (which were fabulous) and tater tots and a few other items. The food is always amazing, and typically fairly quick, my kids looove this place so that's a win too. The service is always pretty good but I do think they might be understaffed. There's been a few times there's only 1 waiter and way too many tables for only one. So I don't hold that against them if it's a staffing issue. If it's poor planning then they need to work on that. I recommend the cheese fry's for the family to share with their burgers, they give you tons, and are my favorite thing on the menu. read more

I'll start with the good- the burgers that we had were both absolutely DELICIOUS. I highly recommend the French Dip burger. To me, it's a burger that is equal to or even surpasses ones I've gotten at Honest Abe's (which is apparently Lincoln's "go to" burger place.) The fries with the truffle aioli was also tremendous. So to me, the food is a total 5 star. The not so good- The ambiance with lies somewhere between "should this be fast food" and "we really want to be modern and classy." Charred is bookended by Old Chicago and Ollie and Hobbes, which both present a better option for sit down dining. When we went the large garage doors were open allowing several flies to swarm around over the food and the tables. Also the floor was so slippery that our table chairs wouldn't even sit still unless we held the table (which was also incredibly wobbly). The drink selection was good for non-beer drinkers. With various Mules and other mixed drinks, those who don't want beer will find an option they like. I tried one of their Gin and Tonics and it was very good. The beer selection is beyond basic and sad. When you eat a burger, you want a good beer. The offerings do not go beyond basic domestics and one or two local flagship beers. I would enjoy seeing more diverse beers. This is another reason I'd rather go to Old Chicago next door. If I want a good beer, why would I go to Charred? The service was acceptable. We were immediately asked to sit at a high top table in an empty half of the restaurant and the hostess did not seem ok with me kindly asking to have a booth or a table where the other diners were eating. Once we sat, it took several minutes before someone came to take a drink order or greet us even though the entire wait staff walked by our table multiple times. One worker finally said she'd be right with us, and she definitely was to take our drink order. Our food was out very quickly but was accompanied by our ticket. This made us feel incredibly rushed and felt like it gave the waitress a reason to not come check on us anymore. We wanted another round of drinks, but weren't sure anybody really wanted to sell them to us. Overall the reason this restaurant is just an "ok" for me is very simple. While I would gladly order their burgers to-go or from a delivery service, I have no interest of ever eating in their restaurant again. Simply put, the two restaurants around them do everything just as good, if not better, than Charred does for a similar price. I would rather go to Ollie and Hobbes for an overall better dining experience and I would MUCH rather go to Old Chicago for the beer. Charred is in a very challenging location. Multiple restaurants have failed there over the past 15 years. I can't imagine this place lasts beyond the next year or so. 3/5, thanks to the excellent food. read more
