Reviewing only for the Special Ramadan buffet for Iftar - March 2025 $20 buffet including salad, bread, many entrees including lamb and chicken, dessert, and a sweet punch. They do fill up, so recommend to call in advance for reservations especially for larger groups. I made a reservation for 6 a week in advance with no issues, once there, they were fully booked for 7:30 dinner (one seating at sundown for Ramadan) and had to turn others away. Decent food for the price and some dishes had some spice to it! It was a bit chaotic though getting seated and a very tight space to walk around, as it's so popular during the Iftar, and lots of kids too. Just the amount right amount of spice, naan bread with the fresh garlic ~ parsley, so yummy and hot veggie Samosas, delectable. Try everything & more, can't wait to go back. Nice quaint place! My friends and I came here for their 9.99 lunch deal and everything was straightforward. We came around the time they opened and luckily got a table because closer to noon it quickly became busy so there was a line forming. I haven't had much Indian food so everything was fairly new. I got a House salad, Naan bread, two types of rice (I can't remember what they were called), some kind of fried potato, and the Butter Chicken which was really good. Went for the buffet and it was an extremely disappointing experience. The biryani was dry, bland, and far below even a basic standard. The chicken Chettinad had a faint raw smell that was genuinely off-putting. The tandoori chicken was heavily dyed red on the outside, yet somehow still undercooked inside -- especially the thigh pieces. The palak paneer tasted like raw spinach rather than a properly cooked, seasoned dish. To make matters worse, the staff carried themselves with untrained, condescending expressions that only added to the unpleasant atmosphere. Food here was actually pretty good but service was nonexistent- no refills on water or clearing of plates. For $9 a person though you can't beat it! This review is NOT about their lunch buffet. I came here for the first time but have had experience with Indian cuisine. I ordered the lamb biryiani and the chettinad chicken. I give this place a high 3 and I would come back if I wanted just average, local Indian food. The biryiana was the weakest of the 2 things I got because it just wasn't as flavorful as I expected it to be. It just tasted like plain rice in some areas, but In Other areas I was hit with flavor. I guess maybe mine was not properly mixed? The parts with flavor was good and I wish I had it through out the whole dish. Some dishes here are great, some are just ok! Let's start with the great: paneer curry, chicken tikka masala, chicken korma and garlic naan were all great! So we tried this place last Sunday because we wanted Indian buffet and two other places that we used to visit on Rochester road are still not offering buffet during lunch time. Place was pretty crowded, you sit where you want and servers bring you water and glass. The rest you need to take from the buffet station (plate, napkins and utensils). I liked that they offer separate section for vegan / vegetarian items. There were quite a lot of vegan choices when we were there. The buffet station was a little dirty and there was water dripping from the ceiling next to our table. Overall the food was pretty good, not the best Indian flavors but a solid option of you crave buffet and nothing else is closer. The flavors were nice but not too spicy. I prefer my Indian food to be more spicy. One issue that my husband experienced was that the chicken tandoori was cold. They need to improve heating system for things that are not saucy so the temperature goes down really quickly. After you're done you pay at the counter. Currently weekend buffet is at $15. We may return if other places continue with their policy of not offering buffets anymore since we did enjoy the food. read more

I ordered take out but this is probably the best butter chicken I've ever had. It's a pretty typical dish and my personal go to, and I feel like when a place has good butter chicken, it's indicative of a great rest of the menu! We are the only ones here, mostly carry out orders and surprise surprise, it's snowing outside, steadily, again. It's under new management the past couple of months. We were told to sit anywhere we liked, we took a seat in the front, nearly in the corner. Staff is quite nice, accommodating, so friendly too. They offer to give us some samosas on the house, but we are not doing any gluten or bread carbs and avoiding milk in our food for the next 6.5 weeks. No rice or naan today either. We decided to order their mixed veg kadai masala, Chana masala, aloo palak, chili fish, butter chicken with coconut butter and made us some bhindi masala, even though it's not on the menu. We ordered the entrees medium plus spice. The chilly fish was nice, a good amount of pieces of fish, similar flavoring to the Manchurian, not a sweet. The aloo Chana masala tastes a bit different here, still good. I like the bhindi masala is quite good. The aloo palak is soft and mushy, the spinach with chunks of potatoes. It has good flavor. Not sure what I was expecting, but it was good. The veg kadai masala is decent, a good mix of veggies for sure. The butter chicken is much better with the butter, it's not bad with the coconut, it's just different. Less buttery and creamy sauce, still sweet though. The food is all quite flavorful. The service is stellar, they are all about customer service for sure. Food is all so yummy too. I can see why it's so busy for carry out. read more

I'm not sure what was better - the food or the service! We arrived just as they were opening at 5 PM. My husband went with me And we were looking forward to a nice dinner out. I did mention to the waiter that I was unable to eat dairy and he made a few great suggestions for us. He was really friendly and helpful. Great food and service. I've been to the lunch buffets several times, they had several popular dishes. I had the lunch buffet, they served Channa Masala, Butter Chicken, Chicken Tandoori, Palek Paneer curry, lamb curry, fusion Indo-Chinese vegetable soup and a bunch of other dishes. The rice pudding aka Rice Kheer dessert was absolutely delish, well balance sweet flavor and texture. The food was fresh and the waiters where friendly. The butter chicken was not bad but not as flavor packed as some other places, I believe it was a little bit more lean, less butter, more on the tomato paste site. The chicken quality was 6/10, in terms of freshness, flavor, and texture relative to my fresh home cooked recipe. The chili chicken and chicken tandoori were excellent, we'll balance flavor and we're pretty fresh. I noticed other reviews listed here experienced bad service, but everything I experienced was great, I didn't eat all the food from my dish and the waiters didn't complain to throw it out lol. The restaurant is also under new management I believe. I was allegedly baptized in curry, my clothes had a new aroma after lunch lol. So make sure you wear clothes you anticipate disposing of or simply washing after lol. Shofi Khan was our waiter, he was polite and really personable. This is the only Indian/Pakistani cuisine lunch buffet that I know of within 30 minute drive or Troy. Highly recommended. Be c'urry-ageous' and try out this place. My favorite food is Indian cuisine. This is the only place that offers a buffet. Really enjoyed the Butter chicken and curry chicken. The place is clean and has excellent service. We got cottage cheese dumplings and some goat dish that was absolutely delicious to go for dinner. Goat is very good and not at all what we expected. Hot and sour soup is very spicy and definitely should have got miso soup instead. We gad rice pudding for dessert and that was also good. Just to preface this review, I have never visited this establishment before. My male friend wanted to get Indian food after class, so he suggested that we try Charminar Biryani House. We arrived at 6:40 on a Wednesday night. It was not very busy, as there were multiple empty tables. He sat facing toward the kitchen and I sat facing toward the windows/entrance. You may be wondering why I'm including this detail, but it will make more sense later. When we're ready, a male waiter comes to take our order. My friend takes his order with no issue, when it's my turn, he stays facing my male friend and does not make any type of eye contact to acknowledge my presence. After I order, he says something along the lines of, "okay I'm going to repeat the order to you, sir." At this point, I'm just thinking, okay... this is strange? My friend thought I was just overreacting, until he came to refill our water cups. I say, "thank you" like any normal human being would and I was met with silence. As he's refilling my friend's cup, my friend says, "thank you," to which he replies, "you're welcome, sir." So now at this point, I'm contemplating my entire existence. We ordered the dal soup, samosa, chicken tikka masala, butter chicken, and garlic naan. The samosa wrapper was pretty thick, and the only flavor coming out of the filling itself was from the chili flakes. The dal soup tasted like burnt water (if that's even possible?). It was the blandest lentil soup we have ever tried. I know that typically butter chicken is not meant to be spicy, but when we ask for our food to have medium levels of spiciness, we expect to feel it on our tongues. What did we receive? Very sweet bowls of chicken tikka masala and butter chicken. The sweetness reminded me of eating out of a Chef Boyardee's can. Very disappointing. I guess the only redeeming item was the garlic naan, which was on the burnt end... It gets worse. Remember how I said I was facing the windows? When my friend was finished eating, he wanted to wash up in the rest rooms. I saw in the reflection that a male waiter attempted to approach my table with the check. However, he hesitated multiple times and eventually went back to the front desk/cashier area. A female waitress came and dropped off the check, not in the middle of the table, but where my friend was sitting. Irrelevant detail, but it was my turn to pay for dinner, so I had to reach over the plates to get the check. When the male waiter came back to return my credit card and receipt, he continues to ignore me, places the guest check holder in front of my friend, and says, "thank you, have a good nice, sir." Not sure if other customers have had similar experiences here, but it is definitely my first and last time coming here. If you're looking for a place nearby with better customer service and food, I would suggest trying Ashoka Indian Cuisine, located right up the road. read more

They have remodeled and I think the place looks a lot nicer. We have gotten take out and dined in for the buffet. Typically they have the same things on the buffet each time. Some of these include butter chicken, tandoori chicken, biryani, palak paneer (this is my favorite here), lentils, naan, vegetable soup, bahji, salad, and sweets. They also have coffee and tea. Not the best Indian food I've been too around the Detroit metro area. The portion sizes are very small for the prices. Ordered chicken tikka masala and it was in this small bowl that seemed like a child sized portion. You get a choice of naan or rice which is nice and both are good and they give you good portion sizes. The actual entree was very small and came with a few pieces of meat which was disappointing. ***Don't try and use the free samosa that it says on this Yelp page because the staff says it is a year old and they don't accept it anymore. The good: the butter chicken is very good with slices not bits of chicken, touch of sweetness and buttery. The mild spicy was a good minimal to no spicy so we are happy they actually got it right. The bad: Not so bad but right on the borderline of portion to price. It has more meat than it initially looked in the container. But the flavor gives us a we can do it again. The downer, lack of rice. We would get a much larger portion of rice that come with butter chicken. Twice as much rice as the butter chicken would had been on point.
