Picture of the pamphlet provided by the campsite that says we can pick up dead wood off the ground.

This was our very first camping trip and we were very excited. We stayed at buddy sites with our group of friends (two other travel trailers). We walked around and collected sticks to burn a small fire in the barrel provided. While burning the sticks, Brian (owner) approached us with a gun on his hip, did not introduce himself, and said "this is unacceptable" (talking about the sticks sticking out of the barrel, which I completely understand). I told him I understood and was waiting for it to burn down so I could reposition it. He then asked where we got the firewood, and I said we walked around and picked up sticks. He said "oh so you're stealing? This is my property. You stole from me". I informed him it was not our intention to steal, and later looked at the pamphlet provided by the campground, which says you can pick up dead sticks off the ground. He also said our music was too loud and shouldn't be heard at the next campsite over, which we were talking louder than the music, and we were the campsites next to each other. Thanks to Brian, our trip was dampened and now I have to explain to my two year old (who was present when Brian approached) that we weren't "stealing" and she's not in danger even though she saw a gun.

The WHOLE of the park allows me to give this KOA 3 stars, along with Diane in the store and a couple other guests. The Teepee should NOT be slept in. The amount of musty mold in there all along inside of it was absolutely gross. My fiancee and I spent the weekend in there. We noticed small changes in breathing ability while in there. The heat and rain kept us in there more than we would have liked but, there was a fan. Blowing around the funk. We went on a busy weekend and couldn't move to a cabin. When we got there . we were told about the mold and that we would be the last people to reserve it because it was to be torn down and gotten rid of. We have heard otherwise from a reliable source. We had no offer of discount due to "quality" of our stay nor alternate options.

    Check in and office.

My family and I camped at the Charlottesville KOA over the last weekend in July in a travel trailer. We enjoyed our stay so much that we extended a day. First, the things that need just a little improvement. This is a small campground, no doubt. Like almost all for profit campgrounds, the sites can be a little close. There aren't a lot of hiking options and the trails are overgrown a little. The Wi-Fi is easily overwhelmed in the evening. It is 10 miles from Charlottesville. For us, though, the bad was overshadowed by the good. The staff was friendly and helpful. There weren't a lot of people around, so we had plenty of space. The campsites were spacious and clean. Because the campground is small, I don't think the facilities could be overwhelmed. It was quiet. The cabins, RV sites, and tent sites were all separate, which is good. The drive in to Charlottesville is easy and scenic. There are wineries all over the place! We'll be back for sure. I certainly recommend this KOA.

BED BUGS!!! DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!

BED BUGS IN CABINS!!! The staff is extremely rude. The owner hides in the bushes at night to spy on you then pops out of them. Freaked the kids out and made them uncomfortable. Dirty, rude staff, and DIRTY!!!!! They do not treat their bed bugs when guests report it clearly. The nastiest cabin I have ever stayed in. Don't waste your money, you will get bed bugs.

Unpleasant staff!! Will not stay again or refer anyone else. Best thing about the campground was that it had clean bathrooms.

We stayed at campsites 30, 31, and 32, which are at one end of the campground and feel more secluded, farther away from the other campsites. This means your car is not right next to your site, but we didn't mind walking back and forth (slightly uphill, along a path); we recently bought a collapsible utility wagon that was super helpful in carrying big things to and from the site. The sites sit higher above the river, so it's a bit steep if you want to go down and enjoy the water, but you can do so carefully and it's well worth it. You will love sitting by your fire, listening to the rushing river and feeling like you're in the middle of nowhere, even though many luxuries like flush toilets, hot showers, and even a camp store are just steps away. No need to bring ice or firewood; the camp provides them at an added reasonable cost (but bring an axe to help break up the logs in case the wood is damp or fresh). Bring a grill-top for the firepit if you plan to cook. Keep in mind that the campsites are not very large; ask AJ when you book if your tent will fit. There's plenty to do in the area: Hike Crabtree Falls, taste beers at Devil's Backbone or Blue Mountain Breweries, enjoy ciders at Bold Rock, and next time we'll try the distilleries. Crabtree Falls is definitely my favorite campground in all of Virginia!

We always stay in the cabins (which is dog friendly) and they are always clean and super cozy. We have only stayed during the fall since there is no A/C but I can tell you that during the cooler nights the base board heat keeps you very warm. The constant sound of the creek right outside your window is soothing and a great change from a busy life. There is absolutely NO cell service so be prepared for that. Some super sweet camp cats! We will be back for many many years to come! Thanks AJ and Family!!

It was relaxing and it was close to the lodge, restaurants, and hikes. The campground was full, but it wasn't noisy. My campsite was in the B Loop, site 44. It's not a drive-in site. You need to walk about 50 meters, but the short trail to the campsite is well maintained and so was the campsite. It was very clean and flat for tent set-up. Each campsite has a table and a fire ring with a grill. There's also a locker to store food since the campground is in bear territory. Didn't see any bears, but some deer walked through my campsite. There are toilets walkable from the campsites. I don't like that the showers are elsewhere, next to the camp store. You will have to drive to the showers. It's $5 for 10 minutes. At the camp store, you can buy some fire starters, ice, wood, and a limited selection of snacks. Campsites are $30/night and get booked up months in advance. Each site fits one large tent and one medium tent and a max of two cars. There is no cell reception at the campsite. If you need cell service or wifi, you can go to the Big Meadows Lodge, which also has a bar and restaurant.

Its location is perfectly situated for mountain biking and/or hiking on Lookout Mountain, the North River, and is easy driving distance from other legendary trails like Reddish Knob. Booking is straightforward and easy, although their cancellation policies could be a sticking point for people coming from a long distance on a strict time frame. The owners are responsive and communicative, and very friendly and accommodating when it comes to booking groups. The restroom/shower facilities are clean and perfectly adequate- don't expect the Ritz, but they're great if you need a shower after a hard day of riding or hiking (and you didn't visit the swimming hole for some reason that I won't even try to understand.) The cabins are also clean and cozy- they'd be perfect for a family of four who are used to camping and close quarters. The tent sites are basic, with fire pits, picnic tables at most sites, and plenty of space for a few tents and hammocks. The campground also stands out for its super fun mountain biking trails that actually run through the campground. Whether you're a seasoned rider or a young kid, you'll have fun on them. The swimming hole at the bottom of the hill is a true gem- there's nothing like going for a dip in its cool waters in the middle of the summer. I've been to Stokesville twice in the past month and am looking for the slightest pretext to go again soon.
