The Wild About Music store is such an incredible and fun music store in the heart of downtown…read moreAustin :D ! It has such a vibrant and upbeat appeal, with quirky and meaningful souvenirs for either yourself or for friends and family :) ! And the employees are super friendly, warm and courteous :) ! My sister and I first visited this store at another location over a decade ago when Quincy was the music store cat :) ! Quincy has since passed away. And now, Louis, an adorable tuxedo cat, is the current store cat :) ! Louis has his own merch for fans like us who absolutely adore him :D ! My sister has frequented Austin more often than I have, and always makes an effort to stop by here when she is in town :) ! Ever since the store moved from its original location in downtown to its current location today :) ! There is even a section and a window display dedicated to the one and only Dolly Parton :) ! You can find all kinds of quirky merchandise items, like stylish and fun mugs, magnets, games, clothing, vinyl record decorations, miniature guitars, and art work :D ! You can never get bored in this store :) ! And amazingly, most of these quality items are very reasonably priced :) ! My sister thought a kitty record-designed scratch board for her friend that was only about $13. I found some cool piano socks and scarves to purchase for friends :) ! And we bought a lot of the tuxedo cat keychains and a plush animal because they were so cute and at such great prices :D ! We will definitely come back on subsequent trips to Austin :D !

I am an adult student who wanted to learn drums. So far my experience has been great…read more The North Buffalo school is well equipped and my instructor takes the time to figure out how I learn the best and will try different ways to explain and demonstrate what they are trying to teach. You also get access to their online learning program that allows you to record your progress and share with your instructor. There are hundreds of songs in the library to help learn your instrument to and play along with the actual song. They also offer band lessons and help put you together with other musicians at your level to make a band. You can practice together and the school has performances organized etc... i am not there yet but it's cool and being able to go out to local venues and see fellow students perform is quite motivating. Overall it has been a great experience. Also the director is a veteran and you get a permanent discount if you are too.

They really care about their students and their program. My sons have had wonderful experiences at the school and have grown as people as well as musicians . Being a part of the SOR performance program has given them a sense of belonging as well as lifted their self-esteem. My eldest son was able to get a lucrative job, though he is still an older teenager due to his knowledge and hard work at SOR in addition to some other great qualities he has. SOR is a place where students up to 18 years old can be themselves and discover music and get a chance to perform in actual venues in this wonderful city that is so much defined by music. Adult students have the chance to learn instruments or singing that they may have always wanted to learn, but never had a chance, for others, it proves to be a great activity be where they can develop skills make friendships. They too get to perform in venues. All of the students have one-on-one lessons with professional musicians. I just can't say enough good things about it, and I know that my children are better for having been a part of the SOR family.

DO NOT take your instrument here for setups…read more I visited Musicians Woodshed last week and initially spoke with one of the guitar techs, Jett Boyd, who was polite and professional. We discussed my bass guitar and the possibility that some frets might need adjustment. When I returned the following week after noticing some fret buzz, I spoke with Miles Manglos. I explained that I prefer a very straight neck with low action and that I was not interested in adding more relief to the neck. Because of that, the logical solution would have been to address the fret work. Instead, he suggested doing a setup that would involve adding relief and raising the action--the exact opposite of what I had just explained I wanted. When I asked whether that meant adding neck relief and how that would affect the current setup, he couldn't clearly explain it. I also mentioned that at a different shop in another city, a tech had previously performed a setup even though I specifically asked him not to and only wanted the jack repaired. I brought this up simply to explain why I was trying to be very clear about the work I wanted done. Instead of addressing the issue professionally, Miles abruptly declined to work on the instrument and told me to leave. He was dismissive and repeatedly said he didn't understand what I was saying. A competent guitar tech or luthier should be able to translate what a musician is describing and communicate clearly about the work being recommended. If a shop cannot or does not want to perform a certain service, that's fine--but it should be handled respectfully and professionally. Unfortunately, this interaction came across as pretentious and unhelpful, and it left a very negative impression of the shop.

We came in looking for a case, but Rodrigo recommended the South store that had a better selection of smaller acoustics and we bought one the next day. Good call, Rodrigo! She is having a much easier time playing now.

He said he had the exact Sennheiser microphone I wanted at the Bee Cave store and had it transferred next day. We talked about the opportunity to check it out in store and he fully agreed and said I could work with one of the Pro Audio people to do that when I came to pick it up. It came in mid afternoon Friday and I wasn't able to make it to the store. No problem, Austin said, I will have Rodrigo and Caleb here tomorrow and they can work with you when you can make it in. We'll even hold it for a week. So far this is lining up like a five-star review right? But then there's the rest of the story. Saturday I arrived and connected almost immediately with Rodrigo. He was proceeding immediately to ring me up for not one but two microphones (I only wanted one but Austin brought in two just in case). So when I asked about trying it out, he said that they don't do that. Worse yet, they don't accept returns on microphones. Even worse yet they got in the wrong microphone. I really enjoyed the time waste I invested when I could have had the right microphone on its way to me from someone with a return policy, not to mention the gas and the drive into Lakeline from darn near Florence. I was trying to buy local but local flounced. Strait has done great things for me in the past at the old Lakehills Plaza store, but something has changed. Sorry about the one star but you earned it.
