Jeff is a professional tour guide, and it's evident with the quality of this your. This was our first time in Charleston (actually first time in South Carolina, too). We scheduled our tour time so that Jeff would pick us up at our hotel about an hour after we arrived in town. It was a hot day, so we appreciated being in an air-conditioned vehicle. It was the absolute perfect way to start our visit. We had a great tour of the whole city, learned the "lay of the land", and heard so many fun and interesting historical facts. Probably my decision to take a more personal tour was mainly based on my situation with my ankle. I sprained my foot and ankle and waking or standing is not good right now. But certainly glad we did. Excellent service, incredible knowledge of the area and amazing knowledge of the history of our country and specific local Charleston. Nice comfortable, clean SUV. A great way to tour the town especially in my condition. Probably the only thing to consider if you want to get out and tour the individual places just make note of them on the tour and have Jeff to drop you off after the tour is over or come back on your own. Sometimes a little hard to see sites from the back seat my wife told me, but for me was fine. The tour was about 2 hrs and we did get a chance to take any pictures that we wanted. Highly recommend the personal touch and as always it's not the totals cost, but weigh the difference to justify the personal touch. because it seems expensive but consider what the extra you get for a personal experience with a great tour guide the amount you pay vs a group tour is well worth the difference is price. With so many options for tours in the city, my husband and I spent quite awhile deciding which would give us the best overview of the city. It was such a good tour, we went on another that evening! The morning tour is a great introduction to the ins and outs of the city, including many interesting tips and tidbits about the homes, churches, and other buildings. Jeff is an 8th generation Carolinian who has incredible knowledge of the history and culture of the Charleston area and the Civil War. We took both the morning tour and the Civil War tour. On the latter he shows historical photographs to help you visualize places on the tour. We enjoyed his engaging narrative style as well as some humorous anecdotes. We walked through much of the historic areas of the lower peninsula and there was only a little overlap between the tours. We had a large group, with one individual in a wheelchair, and he gave us a great deal on a private tour and made sure that he was always conscious of where we were walking so it was navigable. I purchased a Groupon and took this tour on a Wednesday morning with my sister. When I booked the tour, the guide gave me an address for a nearby parking garage which really helped a lot since I was just visiting the city and didn't know my way around at all. I put the address in the GPS and we found the garage with no problem, It was a short walk to the fountain at Waterfront Park where we were to meet the tour guide. The tour was supposed to start at 10:00 but when we got there at 9:50 we didn't see any tour guide. I called the phone number and when he answered he said he had started early because he thought everyone was there. Ooops! I guess he forgot to write me down when I called on the Sunday before. He ran back to the fountain to pick us up. We joined the rest of the group which was just one other couple. Having a small group was really nice. We kept passing other tour groups that had a lot of people and I was glad our group was small! It made it a lot more personalized and relaxed. I think maybe this is a newer tour company so there were fewer customers. We walked around Charleston for about 2 hours. The tour was very nice and the tour guide was great! We were able to see a lot of beautiful homes and churches. At the end of the tour he took a picture of us in front of the fountain at Waterfront Park and pointed us in the direction of the "touristy" shopping area. I would recommend this tour of Charleston to someone, like me, who wants a general overview of downtown Charleston. He also does a Civil War tour in the afternoon for history buffs, so you could also check that one out if you want a tour focused on history. I was very pleased with this tour. The guide was very knowledgeable and personable. It was great being on a walking tour and he took us on some of the back streets and up close to the houses that you cannot do on a "riding" tour.
